Opis:: Ukraine has always had a special place in Canadian foreign policy. Currently, Canada is deeply engaged in supporting Ukraine to restore political and economic stability and to implement democratic reforms. The Government in Ottawa has condemned Russian aggressive policy and the illegal military occupation of Crimea and has taken a variety of steps and initiatives since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 including imposing sanctions, economic and military assistance, and supporting of NATO measures.

Opis:: In Canada, French serves as a co-official but also a minority language, whose position is steadily declining, being overshadowed by both the growing importance of English and - as is the case of such as provinces British Columbia and Ontario - by the increasing significance of immigrant, mostly Asian, languages. French speakers are mostly concentrated in Quebec and adjacent bilingual areas in New Brunswick and Ottawa region. This article discusses the protective measures adopted in Canada's federal law and Constitution in order guarantee and promote Francophone language rights. The questions addressed in the article are, among aothers: a) which laws specifically protect the French language and to what extent?; b) are they relevant and effective?, c) how did they evolve to their present form?

Kanadyjski dokumentalny film przyrodniczy na tle gatunku

Opis:: Dokumentalny film przyrodniczy stanowi jeden z najrzadziej badanych gatunków filmowych i telewizyjnych. Niniejsza praca przybliża jego fenomen, łącząc w sobie dwa spojrzenia na dokument przyrodniczy: szerokie - historyczne i ponadnarodowe oraz węższe, skupione na filmach i programach telewizyjnych powstałych w wybranym kraju produkcji. Rozdział pierwszy pracy koncentruje się na ewolucji gatunku. Analizie tytułów, które stały się kamieniami milowymi w historii dokumentalnego filmu przyrodniczego, towarzyszy w nim spojrzenie na relację między rozwojem gatunku a postępem technologicznym w dziedzinie kina i telewizji. Jednocześnie prowadzone są rozważania na temat wpływu filmów dokumentalnych na zmianę w postrzeganiu środowiska naturalnego przez człowieka. Dalsza część pracy koncentruje się na dokumentach przyrodniczych produkcji kanadyjskiej. Kraj ten zachwyca nieskalaną przyrodą, szeroko chronioną na poziomie poszczególnych prowincji i federacji. Poszanowanie natury stanowi jeden z elementów tożsamości narodowej Kanadyjczyków. W związku z tym szczególnie interesujące wydaje się spojrzenie na produkcje przyrodnicze tworzone w tym kraju. W rozdziale drugim pracy wyodrębnione zostały bloki tematyczne w ramach kanadyjskiego dokumentu przyrodniczego. Obok filmów przedstawiających zróżnicowane środowisko naturalne kraju znalazły się tytuły poświęcone faunie oraz parkom narodowym i rezerwatom przyrody. Rozważania na temat specyfiki kanadyjskich filmów dokumentalnych i programów telewizyjnych oparte zostały na tytułach sprzed lat oraz najnowszych produkcjach, takich jak seria CBC Wild Canada. Uwagę poświęcono także wyróżniającym się autorom dokumentów przyrodniczych w Kanadzie. W rozdziale trzecim w centrum zainteresowania znalazły się kanadyjskie filmy dokumentalne o tematyce ekologicznej, szczególnie istotne dzisiaj, gdy międzynarodowy przemysł wpływa na coraz większą dewastację środowiska naturalnego. W tej części pracy filmy-eko ukazane zostały jako źródło wiedzy na temat kondycji kanadyjskiej przyrody, przybliżające widzom metody jej ochrony. Celem ukazania zaangażowania kanadyjskich twórców filmowych na rzecz poszanowania przyrody, w rozdziale znalazły się obrazy reprezentujące różne wymiary filmu ekologicznego: tytuły poświęcone walce o przetrwanie zagrożonych gatunków fauny, ochronie kanadyjskich lasów i relacji człowieka z naturą. Zestawienie ze sobą produkcji powstałych na przestrzeni lat pozwoliło zarysować różnice w postawach Kanadyjczyków względem środowiska naturalnego, udokumentowane w filmach-eko.Analiza licznych wymiarów i odmian dokumentalnych filmów przyrodniczych, przeprowadzona na potrzeby tej pracy, pozwoliła ukazać gatunek ten jako zjawisko dynamiczne, wielowymiarowe i niejednoznaczne. Poświęcenie szczególnej uwagi produkcjom kanadyjskim umożliwiło natomiast opracować charakterystykę kanadyjskiego dokumentu przyrodniczego.
Nature documentary is one of the least examined movie and TV genres. This thesis magnifies its phenomenon, bringing together two perspectives on nature documentary: wide - historical and international, as well as narrow - focused on films and television programs made in the chosen country of origin. The first chapter of this study concentrates on the evolution of the genre. The analysis of the titles that became milestones in the history of nature documentary is intertwined with a look at the influence of technological developments in cinema and TV on the progress within the genre. Simultaneously, the impact of nature documentary on the change in human perception of natural environment is contemplated. The latter part of the thesis focuses on nature documentaries made in Canada – a country with marvelous, untouched nature, widely protected on both provincial and federal level. Respect towards nature is considered to be one of the elements of Canadian national identity. Having that in mind, nature documentaries made in Canada seem an especially interesting topic of study. In the second chapter, thematic groups within Canadian nature documentary are distinguished – movies and television programs depicting the variety of natural environment in Canada, titles focusing on wildlife, as well as those about national parks and nature reserves. The analysis of the specificity of Canadian nature documentaries is based on films and programs made in the past but also the most recent productions such as CBCs Wild Canada series. The attention is also focused on Canadian authors with a unique style of filmmaking. The third chapter examines Canadian environmental films, a sub-genre important especially nowadays, when international industry harms the natural environment on a scale as large as never before. In this section environmental films are shown not only as an important source of knowledge on the state of Canadian nature but also as a medium to spread awareness on the means to protect it. Documentaries, which represent different dimensions of environmental film, among them those portraying the fight to keep endangered species alive and Canadian forests intact, along with titles focused on the relationship between humans and animals, all help to show Canadian documentary filmmakers as truly engaged in the protection of the country’s natural environment. The juxtaposition of productions made at different stages of the 20th century allowed to sketch the differing attitudes of Canadians towards nature, which was successfully documented in environmental films.The analysis of the various dimensions of nature documentaries, performed for the sake of this thesis, proves the genre to be a dynamic, multidimensional and ambiguous phenomenon. The focus on Canadian films and programs allowed to map out the characteristics of Canadian nature documentary.

Multiculturalism of Canadian cinema based on the film programme of the REEL CANADA organization.

Opis:: The aim of the presented thesis is to analyze selected Canadian films in terms of their implementation of the multicultural policy. Selected film examples were analyzed and interpreted. The work present activities of the REEL CANADA organization, its forms of promotion Canadian cinematography and created film education programs. An attempt was made to evaluate the effectiveness of the organization. Important institutions and events that influenced the shaping of Canadian film industry, such as the Toronto International Film Festival or the National Film Board, were described.
Celem przedstawionej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza filmów kanadyjskich pod kątem realizowania przez nie polityki wielokulturowości. Przeprowadzona została analiza i interpretacja wybranych przykładów filmowych. W pracy skupiłam się na działalność organizacji REEL CANADA, opisuję jej formy promocji rodzimej sztuki oraz stosowane programy edukacji filmowej. Została podjęta próba oceny jej skuteczności. Opisane zostały ważne instytucję i wydarzenia, które miały wpływ na kształtowanie się kinematografii kanadyjskiej np. Toronto International Film Festival czy National Film Board.

Opis:: Listracanthus pectenatus sp. nov. represents the youngest record of the enigmatic chondrichthyan Listracanthus. This new species is the only Mesozoic record of this genus and highlights survival of a rare and enigmatic group of cartilaginous fishes across the Paleozoic–Mesozoic boundary. In the Vega−Phroso Siltstone Member of the Sulphur Mountain Formation (western Canada), two kinds of numerous dermal denticles identified as Listracanthus occur predominantly in strata probably of early Smithian age. The new species differs from all other known species of the genus in the structure of the anterior and posterior borders of the large denticles. The small denticles appear to be less diagnostic than the large ones and are readily distinguished from small denticles generally assigned to the genus Petrodus. Histology reveals that the largest denticles were originally hollow, probably secondarily ossified as acellular bone. The conclusion drawn by previous authors that Listracanthus may be a petalodontid shark, based on ambiguous non−skeletal associations with Deltoptychius, Petrodus, or Calopodusis not supported by this study. The large number of denticles, the size of both types of denticles and their arrangement suggest that Listracanthus pectenatus sp. nov. was a large chondrichthyan of aberrant body shape and yet uncertain systematic position.

Opis:: Bernikla kanadyjska Branta canadensis (Linnaeus, 1758) jest ikoną dzikiej Ameryki i należy, zarówno do naturalnego, jak i społeczno-kulturowego, dziedzictwa Ameryki Północnej. Ten monogamiczny, gromadny i migrujący gatunek majestatycznego ptaka wodnego jest szeroko rozpowszechniony w Ameryce Północnej. Występuje w 8-10 różnych podgatunkach w szerokim spektrum naturalnych siedlisk i ekosystemów. Gatunek jest rozpowszechniony od Alaski przez Kanadę, USA aż do Meksyku. Aby uniknąć trudnych warunków zimowych, migruje z północy do południowych stanów USA i północnego Meksyku. Z powodu eksplozji wielkości jego populacji, jak również braku presji drapieżników, ptak ten w niektórych częściach kontynentu, zmienił się w lokalnego szkodnika. To krótkie opracowanie opisuje jego cykl życiowy rozmieszczenie, reprodukcję i zachowanie w środowisku.

Opis:: La migración hacia Canadá derivada del Programa de Trabajadores Agrícolas Tem¬po¬ra¬les se ha convertido en una alternativa para que los habitantes del municipio de Acateno obtengan recur-sos económicos que aporten a la mejora de la calidad de vida de las familias receptoras de reme-sas. En este artículo se analizan las prácticas migratorias del ir y venir que se configuran como una producción espacio-temporal de la actividad laboral por contrato formal, desde la perspecti-va teórica de desarrollo sustentable. Los materiales y métodos contienen un procedimiento me-todológico transductivo con enfoque cualitativo. Los resultados y discusión apuntan a la dimen-sión acerca de cómo las personas migrantes han encontrado brechas de oportunidad para crear, con el uso de las remesas, un entorno de sustentabilidad
Migration to Canada via the Temporary Agricultural Workers Program has become an alterna-tive for the residents of Acateno to obtain economic resources that contribute to the improve-ment of the quality of life of the families that receive remittances. This paper analyzes the mi-gratory practices of coming and going that are configured as a temporary space production of la-bor activity by formal contract, from the theoretical perspective of sustainable development. The materials and methods combine a transductive methodological procedure with a qualitative ap-proach. The results and discussion point to the ways in which migrants have found opportunity gaps to create, through the use of remittances, an environment of social, economic and environ-mental sustainability that brings them closer to possible intergenerational benefits.
