Opis:: The Chinese Rites Controversy definitively shaped the history of Christianity in China. When some missionaries were exiled in Canton from 1666 to 1671, they sought to resolve their disagreement on whether certain Confucian rituals could be practiced by Chinese Christian converts but their differences ended up even more entrenched. In his unpublished history of the China mission covering the period from 1640 to 1700, the Polish Jesuit Tomasz Ignacy Szpot Dunin (1644-1713) gives an account of the discussions held in Canton. His account not only reveals previously known materials but also offers new insights on the Controversy.

Opis:: The Huaisheng Mosque in Canton is one of the oldest mosques in China. Its exact founding year is unknown, however the earliest still existing inscription dates to the year 1350, the final stage of the Mongolian Yuan dynasty (1271–1368). The text carved on a stone stele documents the reconstruction of the mosque, after it had burnt down some years earlier. To make this text known to a wider public and correct misunderstandings, the inscription was completely translated and newly annotated.

Opis:: System polityczny Konfederacji Szwajcarskiej jest systemem, który stanowi przykład dla współczesnych rozwiązań demokratycznych. Specyfika oddolnej organizacji państwa szwajcarskiego sugeruje, by specyfiki jego funkcjonowania poszukiwać od poziomu gminy poprzez kanton ku całej federacji. Należy wskazać, że filarem szwajcarskiego federalizmu jest silna samodzielność kantonów wobec władzy federalnej. Warto podkreślić, że specyficzny charakter systemu rządów oparty jest o zasadę dominacji parlamentu, układ zależności pomiędzy poszczególnymi instytucjami władzy państwowej przyczyniają się do instytucjonalnego zdominowania procesów politycznych, przy tym ograniczony do minimum stopień politycznej rywalizacji sprzyja z jednej strony realizacji merytorycznych działań politycznych, z drugiej stabilności. Należy również wskazać na rozbudowaną instytucję demokracji bezpośredniej, która pozostawia ostateczny głos obywatelowi.
The political system of the Swiss Confederation is a system that is an example for modern democratic solutions. The specificity of grass-roots organization of the Swiss State suggests that the specificity of its operation should be sought for from the level of the community through canton to the whole federation. It should be noted that the pillar of the Swiss federalism is strong independence of the cantons towards the federal government. It is worth noting that the specific nature of the system of government is based on the principle of domination of parliament; arrangement relationships between the various institutions of state power contribute to the institutional domination of the political processes, while limited to the minimum degree of political competition favors on the one hand the implementation of substantive policy action, and on the other - stability. It should also be pointed out to the extensive institution of direct democracy which leaves the final say to the citizen.

Opis:: Artykuł zapoznaje ze zjawiskiem występowania różnorodnych języków w przestrzeni publicznej miejscowości Scuol, słynnego kurortu oraz znaczącego centrum turystycznego w kantonie Gryzonia we wschodniej Szwajcarii. Oficjalnym językiem miasta jest język retoromański, jednak prawie wszyscy mieszkańcy posługują się płynnie także językiem niemieckim. Autor koncentruje się na analizie pejzażu językowego w bankach i biurach znajdujących się w centrum miejscowości. Z badania wypływa, że pejzaż ten jest zdominowany przez teksty w języku niemieckim. Język retoromański występuje przede wszystkim w nazwach własnych, informacjach o godzinach otwarcia, bardzo rzadko natomiast w dłuższych, samodzielnych tekstach. Wyraźnie dostrzegalny w przestrzeni publicznej jest także język angielski. Inne języki występują sporadycznie. Stosunkowo słaba pozycja języka retoromańskiego oraz dominacja języka niemieckiego świadczą o tym, że w Scuol dalsza egzystencja najstarszego języka Szwajcarii jest mocno zagrożona.
This article discusses the phenomenon of the existence of different languages in the public space in Scuol, a famous health resort and tourist locality in the Swiss canton of Grisons. The official language of the town is Romansh, but almost all citizens speak fluently German. The author analyses visible texts in banks and offices in the commercial center. The research shows that German is the most visible language. Romansh appears in the first place in proper names and in the information about the opening times whereas long texts written only in this language are very rare. English is another important language in the public space. Other languages don't play practically any role. The relatively weak position of Romansh and the dominance of German indicate that the existence of the oldest language of Switzerland in Scuol is in danger.

Opis:: The purpose of the article is primarily to show the political position and role of the Swiss Federal Parliament; and how the parliament of one of the oldest European republics really works. At the beginning of the article there are preliminary issues concerning the Swiss Confederation, the model of government, separation of powers and organs of each of these authorities. The first part of the article contains issues regarding the structure of both houses of the Parliament – the National Council and the Canton Council and how these chambers were elected and all issues about Constiutional position of both houses of Swiss Federal Parliament. The next part of the article covers issues related to the internal organization of both chambers, as well as the tasks of the members of the Federal Council and the Canton Council. There is also information about the operations of both chambers. The four and final part of the article concerns the function of Parliament, in particular the legislative, control, judical and creative function. The ending of the article provides a summary of the above-mentioned considerations.

Różnorodny charakter tekstów retoromańskich i częstotliwość ich występowania świadczą o tym, że pomimo presji ze strony języka niemieckiego najstarszy język Szwajcarii odgrywa nadal ważną rolę w życiu mieszkańców Scuol.

The various character of the texts in Romansh and their frequency demonstrate that the oldest language of Switzerland plays – despite the pressure from German – further an important role in the life of the inhabitants of Scuol.
