Possibility of freemartinism in roe deer
Autorzy:
Sysa, P. S.
Kałuziński, J.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
Cytogenetic analysis was made in female roe deer, Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758), belonging to members of heterosexual triplets. Lymphocytic chimerism was not discovered, the cariotype being defined as 70,XX. The result obtained justifies the assumption that in cases of twin or multiple pregnancy of unlike sexes in the roe deer there is no development of infertility in the females etiologically similar to the freemartinism syndrome in domestic cattle.

Effect of roe buck removal on marking intensity
Autorzy:
Johansson, A.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
An experiment was performed in a roe deer Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758) poipulation to assess the effect of a large-scale removal of adult males on the intensity of marking behaviour.

Socioeconomic, physiognomic, and climatic factors determining the distribution pattern of roe deer Capreolus capreolus in Spain
Autorzy:
San Jose, C.
Braza, F.
Aragón, S.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
In Spain, the highest density of roe deer Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758) is found in the northern mountains, whereas towards the south, populations are fragmented into isolated nucleii. In order to analyse the distribution patterns of this species in Spain and its variation during the last five years, a multivariate analysis of the influences of several socioeconomic, physiognomic and climatic factors was performed. This species prefers to inhabit damper and colder areas. Its distribution also reflects changes in human population; roe deer are associated with areas of zero growth or an actual decline in population density. An active management is essential to the conservation of the southern populations due to their geographic isolation and low populational density of each nucleus.

Variation in the fecundity of roe deer in Britain: effects of age and body weight
Autorzy:
Hewison, A. J. M.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
This paper investigates variation in female fecundity in relation to effects of age and body weight within and between 15 populations of roe deer Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Britain. Analyses were based on carcass material and fecundity was assessed from the presence/absence and number fertilised ovulations (corpora lutea) and implanted foetuses. A significant proportion (>10%) of does ovulated in their first year in some populations, but such precocious reproductive activity rarely resulted in successful implantation of a foetus.

Sex differences in time budgeting in roe deer during the rut
Autorzy:
Flint, A. P. F.
Krzywiński, A.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
In a forest population of roe deer Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758) studied in eastern Poland during the rut, does spent a greater proportion of time feeding and selecting food than bucks, during the dawn and dusk periods of grazing on meadows at the forest boundary. Bucks spent a greater proportion of time in movement (walking and running) and in orientation. These differences occurred at 3 of 4 study sites, and were unaffected by occurrence of social interactions. Although these findings contradict previous data they are predictable on the basis of optimal resource utilization, female reproductive success being determined by access to food, male reproductive success by access to mates.

Phylogeography of the European roe deer Capreolus capreolus as revealed by sequence analysis of the mitochondrial Control Region
Autorzy:
Wiehler, J.
Tiedemann, R.
Powiązania:
Acta Theriologica
Opis:
To assess levels of genetic variation as well as the genetic differentiation among populations, 40 roe deer Capreolus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1758) from 8 European populations were analysed with regard to DNA sequence variation at the highly polymorphic part I of the mitochondrial Control Region.
