Opis:: The article focuses on Christian greetings woven in the history of Romance languages in Europe. Most of them are forgotten today or remain largely obsolete due to the decline in Christian practices. Almost all of these phrases entered the Romance languages from Latin making them widely understood and frequently used in many parts of Europe and often remained unchanged for centuries. The greetings can also be divided into various types dependent on contexts: greetings of Biblical (including Semitic) origin, which are still used during the Catholic mass, the angelic greetings of the Annunciation, its continuation in the “Ave Maria” prayer and in the Marian hymns, the Orthodox paschal greeting as well as other daily greetings of Christian origin, which work(ed) a bit like saying hello.

Opis:: Just as all the world's religions know ascesis, so does Christianity. This fact raises different questions: Is ascesis the same in Christianity as in other religions? How do Christians understand ascesis? Can we say that there is a Christian ascesis? In this article the authors try to answer these questions. First, they briefly define the term ascesis, and then they outline the biblical foundations of ascesis and its history. Then they show how Christians understand ascesis and in what sense it is Christian ascesis, and its various forms. Finally, they show the criteria of discernment that must be observed in order for ascesis to be authentically Christian and to enable one to live freedom in Christ and the fullness of life in the love of God the Father through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit.
Tak jak wszystkie religie świata znają ascezę, tak i chrześcijaństwo. Fakt ten rodzi różne pytania: Czy asceza w chrześcijaństwie jest taka sama jak w innych religiach? Jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę? Czy możemy powiedzieć, że istnieje chrześcijańska asceza? W niniejszym artykule autorzy starają się odpowiedzieć na te pytania. Najpierw krótko definiują termin „asceza”, a następnie przedstawiają biblijne podstawy ascezy i jej historię. Następnie pokazują, jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę i w jakim sensie jest to asceza chrześcijańska oraz jej różne formy. Na koniec przedstawiają kryteria rozeznawania, których należy przestrzegać, aby asceza była autentycznie chrześcijańska i umożliwiała życie w wolności w Chrystusie oraz w pełni życia w miłości Boga Ojca przez Jezusa Chrystusa w Duchu Świętym.

Opis:: The article discusses the problem of the christian concept of the human person in theological and philosophical context, and with reference to evolutionary sciences. It was pointed out that the naturalistic evolutionism undermines the most important assumptions (especially thesis proclaiming the unique status of human in nature), which is based on christian anthropology. In this paper it was also an attempt to justify that philosophical reflection can be important in the analysis of problems located between science and religion (among others the issue of the origin, nature and destiny of man). The question about new type of christian philosophy is a challenge in theology, which will be obliged – because of the changing image of the world and man – to modify its foundations, rooted mainly in the Thomistic metaphysics so far. Besides, in the context of issues relating to the meaning of human life it indicates that there is a need to develop such a philosophy, which is based on the achievements of natural science, and would be in dialogue with the contemporary humanities.

Opis:: A careful examination of the text of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical Ut unum sint allows us to see, first of all, the fact that His Holiness was closely acquainted with the ecclesiological doctrine of the Second Vatican Council, in which he, in fact, played an active part, including by drafting some synodal documents, such as the decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio. Moreover, in his ecumenical approach, Pope John Paul II aptly advocated for the participation of the Catholic Church in the work of the Ecumenical Council of Churches and for the restoration of the unity of Christians, hence his full ecumenical commitment to engage in ecumenical dialogue with all the Churches, and particularly with the Eastern Church, which he suggestively called “sister Church”. In fact, both his pastoral-practical activity of ecumenical commitment, as well as his encyclicals, abundantly confirm that the Supreme Pontiff has indeed made a praiseworthy contribution to the cause of Christian unity, which the Founder of the Church himself wanted (cf. John 17:21), and which must remain an example for us Christians of today and tomorrow.

Tytuł:: The influence of religion on American policy toward Israel : is FPA a useful tool for analysis?

Opis:: The article presents an analysis of the influence of religion on American policy toward Israel, concentrating on a specific set of beliefs known as Christian Zionism. Although it is commonly thought that Christian Zionism is a new phenomenon, strictly connected with the views represented by the American Christian Right, the author of this article agrees with scholars who stress that in fact it was theologically influential long before the creation of the movement. Additionally, the examples presented in the article demonstrate that Christian Zionism influenced not only American theological thought but also (to a certain degree) American policy - first toward the territory of Palestine, and later toward the state of Israel. Christian Zionists (representing both, premillennial and postmillennial approaches) created various effective lobbying organizations in order to pressure the US government. Therefore, the hypothesis of the text concerns the possibility of using FPA for the analysis of their influence on the US foreign policy decision-making process. It seems that the impact of (this specific form of) religion on American policy toward Palestine/Israel - at least since the early 20th century - can be analyzed through such FPA models that take into consideration pressure groups’ influence on the foreign policy decision-making process.

Opis:: In one of the paintings in the Central Church of Abdallah-n-Irqi an enigmatic element can be seen: a small figure of a man in a jar. No satisfactory explanation for this detail has been found so far. Although a parallel representation seemed to have been discovered in Banganarti, it remains a unique and problematic representation. On the basis of a renewed investigation of the iconography of martyrs in the fourth century, the author proposes a new interpretation of the man in the vessel.
