Opis:
The paper focuses on the link between infrastructure and productivity in the Polish economy. The researcher aims to estimate the direct elasticity of GDP with regard to infrastructure and check the indirect influence of infrastructure on productivity. The adopted research method is based on estimating a three-factor production function for Poland, covering capital, labor and infrastructure. Two forms of the production function were adopted, the Cobb-Douglas function and the translog function. The production function was estimated on the basis of data for Poland’s 16 provinces in 2000-2006. The findings obtained by the author show that infrastructure is an important factor influencing production. The estimated direct elasticity of GDP to infrastructure ranged from 0.11 to 0.22 depending on the production function and the variables used. This level of elasticity is compatible with research findings for other countries, the author says. However, Mackiewicz-Łyziak’s research yielded no conclusive findings on the influence of infrastructure on productivity in the case of other production factors.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is an assessment of changes in production factors productivity in commercial farms in 2012 in comparison to 2004. An analysis concerns the fl exibility of relations among production factors like: arable lands areas in hectares, human labor input in man-hours, total cost in Polish zloty in 2004 and 2012 and the effects resulted from using above mentioned factors expressed in production value. It allowed to make an assessment of changes in rural farms’ economic effectiveness within eight years after Poland’s accession to the European Union. In surveyed period average labor effectiveness increased of 86.5%, and land effectiveness of 29.7%. Average capital productivity decreased just like labor and land margin productivity.
Celem opracowania jest ocena zmian, jakie zaszły w produktywności czynników produkcji w towarowych gospodarstwach rolnych w 2012 roku w stosunku do 2004 roku.

Opis:
This paper sets out to provide evidence for the existence of spatial spillovers linked with the development of transport infrastructure. The author makes an attempt to measure the influence of both regional infrastructure (direct effect) and non-regional infrastructure (indirect effect) on gross value added generated in a region. In doing so, Rosik builds a bridge between the growth theory and the New Economic Geography concept. The author considers the case of Spain’s Galicia region in 1980-2000. The analysis makes use of the Cobb-Douglas production function, expanded to include transport infrastructure with the use of Spanish statistical data. The analysis confirmed the existence of negative spatial spillovers linked with infrastructure investment projects in this outlying district of Spain. The data shows that gross value added is positively correlated to the development of transport infrastructure in Galicia, but negatively correlated to the development of transport infrastructure in neighboring regions. The research findings confirm theoretical conclusions reached by economists linked with the so-called New Economic Geography theory to the effect that intraregional infrastructure has a positive influence on the development of outlying regions, while interregional infrastructure may lead to a deepening of regional disparities. This stems from the fact that, thanks to reduced transaction costs in interregional trade, companies are tempted to relocate their operations to more affluent regions. Rosik’s findings, supported by other empirical studies and theoretical discussions, are especially significant to Poland’s eastern regions, which are less developed than the rest of the country.

Opis:
Research background: The paper presents the issue of total factor productivity in the manufacturing industry in Poland. It has been assumed that total factor productivity (TFP) is a synthetic measure of efficiency of the production process and a measure of the impact of technical progress on the rate of economic growth. Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper is to assess the differentiation in the level of total factor productivity (TFP) occurring among the Section C manufacturing divisions in Poland. In particular, the paper raises the issue of measuring and analysing the relationship between expenditure on research and development and the level of TFP in manufacturing divisions in Poland. Methods: In the presented research, the TFP level was determined by using the two-factor Cobb-Douglas production function, while econometric panel models were used to assess the studied relationship. Findings & Value added: The presented considerations show that manufacturing divisions in Poland are diversified in terms of total factor productivity. Generally, manufacturing divisions with high R&D intensity, i.e. divisions classified as so-called high-tech ones, are characterised by a high TFP level. The econometric analysis carried out allows us to conclude that expenditure on R&D incurred in manufacturing enterprises significantly affects the level of TFP.

Opis:
The aim of the article was to identify the determinants of income of representative farms at the level of European Union regions. For this purpose, FADN data was used for the years 2004-2017. Due to varied conditions of agricultural development, EU regions were divided into groups according to seniority of members. Income was examined using basic panel regression and quantile panel regression models using the extended Cobb-Douglas formula. Apart from the basic input of production factors (labour, capital and land), the impact of subsidies as well as production and financial management strategies in the farms were also investigated. It was found that farm income in so-called new member states were more sensitive to growing specialization, direct payments and capital expenditure, while, in the so-called old EU, there was a relatively high elasticity of income in relation to the labour factor. On the other hand, income was negatively affected by an increase in the level of financial leverage. The results of the quantile regression model show that, with increasing farm income, the role of labour and land factors decreases, while the significance of the capital factor remains relatively constant.

Opis:
This study aimed to identify and compare the impact of production factors on the total ecological and economic efficiency of the potato land-use type in the two regions Primorsky Kray, Russia and Red River Delta, Vietnam using the Cobb-Douglas production function. The result of data analysis for the period of 2016–2019 showed that the contribution coefficient of factors such as initial investment, labor cost, expenses of machinery and equipment, and amounts of pesticides and fertilizers used for potato farming per hectare to the total ecological and economic efficiency of the potato land-use type in Primorsky was higher than in the Red River Delta. The results also show that the amounts of pesticides and fertilizers in the Red River Delta were used more than in Primorsky; therefore, they present a higher influence on the total ecological and economic efficiency. On the basis of the analysis of the impact of each factor, this study has proposed the solutions to enhance the influence of the factors that have a proportional effect and minimize the influence of factors that have an inversely proportional effect on the economic-environmental efficiency of potato land use in each study area.
