Opis:
Design for manufacturing (DFM) strategies help companies to develop new products that are feasible to manufacture. In the early stages of design all engineering activities are initiated in computer aided systems. When the design is finished, the process of manufacturing and production planning begins. Issues often occur at this point because two teams, designers and manufacturers, have been working separately. The resulting question is: ‘how can Knowledge Engineering (KE) be used effectively to enhance manufacturability during early design?’ Even if the most complex geometrical product can be realized using today’s technologies such as rapid prototyping it is only true in unit production. In lot and mass production where CNC machines are used, complex geometry causes a number of difficulties. So it is important to investigate the project carefully in the early design stage from the point of view of whether it will be possible to manufacture.

Opis:
In this study, we propose a cooling structure manufactured using a specialized three-dimensional (3D) printing design method. A cooling performance test system with complex geometry that used a thermoelectric module was manufactured using metal 3D printing. A test model was constructed by applying additive manufacturing simulation and computational fluid analysis techniques, and the correlation between each element and cooling efficiency was examined. in this study, the evaluation was conducted using a thermoelectric module base cooling efficiency measurement system. The contents were compared and analyzed by predicting the manufacturing possibility and cooling efficiency, through additive manufacturing simulation and computational fluid analysis techniques, respectively.

Opis:
Purpose: The work aims to propose a comprehensive design framework for additive manufacturing and apply it to a case study of the height adjuster handle of a car. The aim is to provide designers and engineers with a practical example of how the framework can be used to design a complex part for additive manufacturing. The article also aims to demonstrate the potential benefits of additive manufacturing in the automotive industry, such as improved performance, reduced times, and cost savings. Additionally, the article aims to compare the developed framework with existing design for additive manufacturing (DFAM) methodologies and highlight its unique features and advantages in designing the height adjuster handle. Design/methodology/approach: The study used qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. The first phase of the study involved a systematic review of existing DfAM methodologies and a critical analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. Based on this analysis, a new DfAM framework is developed, which aims to address the limitations of existing frameworks and provide a comprehensive design approach for additive manufacturing. The second phase of the study involved applying the developed framework to a case study of a complex automotive part - a height adjuster handle. The design requirements of the height adjuster handle were identified based on the principles of DfAM, and the part was designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software and optimised topologically using ANSYS software. In the third phase, the performance of the height adjuster handle designed using the developed framework was compared with a part manufactured with injection moulding technology. The comparison was based on various performance criteria, including mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy, and production time and cost. Findings: The findings of the study demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed design framework for additive manufacturing (DfAM) in producing a complex automotive part with improved performance characteristics and reduced lead time. Research limitations/implications: Although the results of the study provide important insights into the effectiveness of the developed DfAM framework for producing a complex automotive part, there are some limitations to the research that should be considered, such as the case study involved the design of a single part, and the results may not be generalisable to other parts or applications. Further research is needed to validate the effectiveness of the DfAM framework for a broader range of automotive parts. for the automotive industry. The developed DfAM framework can be used in the FDM technology. It can be used as a decision aid in the manufacturing of FDM parts in order to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the production process for complex automotive parts. Originality/value: The value of the study is the development of a novel DfAM framework and the demonstration of its effectiveness in a case study. The proposed framework can be used as a reference for future research. It can also provide practical guidance for industry professionals seeking to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their additive manufacturing processes.

Opis:
Armoring civilian vehicles requires specialized knowledge and experience that many armoring companies lack as they are not direct or indirect suppliers of vehicle manufacturers. This limits their access to automotive quality and manufacturing certifications or detailed vehicle designs, which can result in loss or malfunctioning of automotive components during the armoring process. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the challenges faced by Brazilian civilian armoring companies and identify opportunities for improvement in their production processes. Qualitative research was conducted using a questionnaire-based survey of eight specialized firms in Brazil, as well as literature related to DFMA, design for manufacturing and assembly, quality, automotive, and ballistic references. The study results in clude detailed armoring operation steps, qualitative survey reports, and helpful literature references for armoring practitioners to generate a standard armoring procedure for different vehicle models. Following best practices in automotive and armoring procedures collected in the survey responses can standardize and enhance ballistic protection operations while preserving the original vehicle systems’ functionalities and warranties. This work provides valuable information for armoring companies to improve their operations and interfaces with automotive systems and follow automotive and ballistic references.

Opis:
This paper discusses generation of lattice structures with non-uniform shape and their optimization in a computer aided design (CAD) model of an exemplary part. Feasibility of encapsulating the whole process within one off-the-shelf CAD suite is analyzed. A method of design of lattice structures of variable density is proposed. A series of finite element method (FEM) analyses leading to achieving improved structures is presented.
