Opis:
The bachelor's thesis entitled " Economic and investment potential Podkarpackie against the Polish eastern regions" is a description of a comparative study focusing on confirming the predominance of the Podkarpackie regions vis-à-vis other Eastern Poland regions in the area of individual economic and investment potential resulting from centuries-long allocation of resources, informal socio-economic connexions in the region, which has allowed it to achieve its current level of development. The current state is also a contributor to future development, which is largely able to achieve better results by using production concentration on export, highly competitive and highly technologically advanced products, investing in transport infrastructure that reduces costs and protects young businesses from unfair opponents.

Opis:
The concept of local development factors has gained in importance in the context of the reduction of existing resources, especially financial ones. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate localized economic activity as an endogenous factor in the development of small and medium-sized cities. Therefore, the individual sources of income of residents were examined on the basis of the data submitted with their tax declarations. The study covered the years 2016-2018, and included 255 small and medium-sized Polish cities that are revealing a depletion of their socio-economic functions. In order to assess local economic activities, the normalization method was used to compare the cities in terms of their potential. The results thus obtained allow for conclusions to be drawn on the importance of various sources of revenue to the development of cities, and are complementary to the analyses carried out so far in this area.
Okres badawczy dotyczy lat 2016-2018 i obejmuje 255 małych i średnich miast w Polsce tracących swoje funkcje społeczno-gospodarcze.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to identify the role of Latin America in the global economy between 1990 and 2010. The analysis is based on the indicators that define social and economic potential (regional GNI, GNI per capita, growth rates, share in global production output, etc.). The article examines in detail the structural and regional shifts in Latin America’s foreign trading: the share of manufactures in Latin American exports has shrunk sharply since 2000; primary commodities have become more important for the region’s trade; China has become a privileged trading partner for Latin America; the region’s resilience to the crisis has renewed trade interest from the EU ; the USA’s share in the region’s trade has reduced. The analysis allowed a proposal for decision methods addressing major issues in the region’s trade through the diversification of Latin American export and the intensification of intra-regional trade.

Opis:
Socio-economic potential is one of the key determinants of regional development. The aim of the paper was to analyse the socio-economic development of 16 NUTS-2 regions in Poland in three selected years: 2005, 2009 and 2013. To identify the positions of individual regions in the rankings, for comparison purposes, selected methods of multidimensional comparative analysis have been implemented: the method of pattern of development proposed by Hellwig, the method of standardised values and the method of ranks. The variables used in the analysis describe demographic potential, labour market, economic situation of inhabitants and level of economic activity, activity and financial stability of local government and socio-technical potential. The results show high diversity of socio-economic potential among Polish NUTS-2 regions, however the level of social potential does not always correspond to the level of economic development. This is particularly the case of Silesian and the poorest Eastern Poland regions. Positions in rankings of analysed regions showed growing diversity in subsequent years. The only region that in all the analysed years maintained its position was the capital region. The results confirmed significant compatibility of the results obtained using different methods which means that in the analysis of socio-economic potential of Polish regions one of them could be used.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the article is to show the modified method of calculating the economic potential on the example of territorial units of the Upper Silesian Metropolis. Design/methodology/approach: Economic potential is a measure of a region's strength compared to other regions. In economics, potential is a substitute for socio-economic development. The methodology of calculating the modified economic potential of territorial units was discussed in the first part of the article, and an empirical example is presented in the second part. Findings: As a result of the research, strong regions were identified and the self-potential of the regions and their surroundings were compared. Research limitations/implications: The proposed modified method of potentials can be used for a comparative analysis of any territorial units. The metric that is used to measure the distance between territorial units is important. Practical implications: On the basis of the presented method, any regions or countries can be compared in terms of socio-economic development. Social implications: The method makes it possible to compare the socio-economic development of regions in terms of income and population. Originality/value: The article compares selected communes of the Silesian Voivodeship in terms of income, population and socio-economic development. A modified measure of economic potential was used.

The basic notional category and the leading motif of the presented study is social experience of candidates for teachers. The reflection is grounded on the social psychology of development in the context of the reality experienced by the individual, the meanings applied to experiences (Tyszkowa, Przetacznikowa, Brzezińska), and in the perspective of intercultural education (Lewowicki, Nikitorowicz). In the undertaken discussion, the author refers to the results of extensive multivariate research conducted in 2011–2012 in several academic environments which differ in location (the centre – the borderland) and in socio-economic potential. This constitutes the background against which the determinants are indicated of preparing future teachers for work in multicultural conditions.

Opis:
For centuries architecture and the architectural objects constitute the characteristic landscape’s elements of the particular land or region. They were a vivid illustration of the given culture’s achievements, they constitute the aesthetics and engineering accomplishments of their time. Nevertheless in the last few decades a distinct transformation took place. Architecture is not only the reflection of the current state but it became an instrument in process of creating yet unexciting – but carefully planned in marketing strategies – economic potential of a space. While monitoring the tendencies occurring lately in global architecture and the urban design five essential parts of architecture as an economic device can be pointed out: 1/. architecture and space branding where the intentional designing of a particular, imagined picture of any defined space starts to be a way to impart it a new meaning; 2/. architecture and tourism destination where architecture can be utilized as a basic instrument to stimulate the tourism development in particular regions; 3/. consumerism where architecture becomes a device of the behavioural economics; 4/. corporate architecture where architecture is used to distinguish companies’ image on the concurrence background thus to enhance their economic position on the market; 5/. architecture as an integrating and holding together factor in local communities. Nowadays architecture of the objects and spaces where contemporary people exist is underestimated. We just partly exploit architecture in a process of enhancing the economic potential of a particular space. Time to recognize and explore other qualities of architecture as a way of the innovative reality creation, to value abilities of creating the atmosphere stimulating the consumers behaviour leading to planned financial effects. Architecture – as a device ample with the expression means - supports creating the competitive advantages.

Opis:
The paper attempts to discuss research on spatial variation in the distribution of the headquarters of 100 leading IT corporations by city in the years 2003-2011. The research shows that the global space offers powerful opportunities for differentiating the headquarters of leading IT corporations. This is emphasised by the number of headquarters per city and their spatial concentration. Predominantly, they can be found in six areas: the Japanese-Korean area, eastern China, the West Coast of the USA, the East Coast of the USA, the central part of the USA, and north-western Europe. Tokyo, Kyoto, Hsinchu, Paris, Santa Clara, San Jose, Sunnyvale and Taipei offer the best conditions for locating headquarters of IT corporations and house the highest number of headquarters.

Opis:
Research background: Modern cities often struggle with the problem of selecting an optimal model of development, which is adjusted to their needs and resources. A kind of response to this was the founding of the Cittaslow network, bringing together cities developing according to the slow city model. The Polish National Cittaslow Network was established in April 2007. The founders of the network were four cities from the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Province (Biskupiec, Bisztynek, Lidzbark Warmiński and Reszel). The aim of the Polish National Cittaslow Network is to promote and spread the idea of good life by implementing in the cities appropriate solutions in the field of environmental policy, infrastructure, quality of urban life, hospitality and social cohesion. Currently, 28 cities belong to the Polish National Cittaslow Network. These cities are joined by a common idea and common goals adopted to improve the quality of the residents' life. However, each city has a different history, tradition, natural values, and also has a different socio-economic potential. Purpose of the article: The aim of the study was to assess the differentiation of the socio-economic potential of cities belonging to the Polish National Cittaslow Network. Methods: The research covered all member cities of the network. The synthetic index was used to assess the socio-economic potential of cities. The grouping of cities was carried out using the hierarchical Ward method. Findings & Value added: Differences in the socio-economic potential of the cities which belong to the Polish National Cittaslow Network are moderate. This is confirmed by the values of the synthetic index of this potential in each of the cities as well as coefficient value of its variation. Differences between the member cities were also verified by the results of grouping. As many as 7 groups were distinguished, including 2 composed of single entities. The conclusions arising from this research are as follows. Firstly, the slow city development model should be individually adapted to the capabilities of each city or group of cities similar to each other in terms of the socio-economic potential level. Secondly, the recommendations proposed in this study can make a useful contribution to discussions on the possible implementation of the slow city model in Poland, and its adaptation by individual cities. Furthermore, the research outcome can serve as a set of recommendations for Cittaslow member cities in other countries.
