A dialectic between presence and absence, remembrance and oblivion, testimony and silence, body and its trace reflects the gist of the most recent Ernaux’es book. It constitutes not only plenteaus thematic confluence but also or even majorly an axis of the book’s construction. Its structure encompasses various layers such as: rhetorical, stylistic and typographic, which separately and together combined reside in prevailing tensioned coexistence of presence and absence.

Opis:
The article «"Journal du dehors» et «La vie extérieure» d'Annie Ernaux: l'engagement au quotidien" is an analysis of Ernaux's two texts within P. Bourdieu's sociological perspective. Taking an observation of the surrounding reality, where the narrative "I" is situated, as a starting point, Ernaux distinguishes two types of everyday situations: rituals and individual activities. The former shape mass behaviour which is governed by the political and economic system, whereas the latter - labelled by M. de Certeau as «pratiques subversives» - subconsciously go beyond the norm-established behaviour. Both types belong to popular culture and concern people who are dominated (domines). Taking their side, both word and deed, Ernaux defies the conventional structures she is entangled in by the mere fact of being a writer. Ernaux expresses this defiance in two ways. First, by rejecting the elitist notion of creator, second, through abandoning memory as a source of writing, by resigning from the genre of novel in favour of texts which deal with the synchronic movement of the narrative "I" in the world.

This article reflects on the disrupted publication chronology of translations of Annie Ernaux’s books as well as those of her disciples, Didier Éribon and Édouard Louis. The analysis is based on the concept of space-time found in the original texts and their translations by Bożena Tokarz, and shows how this disturbed chronology affects the reception of these translations in Poland.

To see differently, the commercial space in texts by Émile Zola, Annie Ernaux and Natalia Fiedorczuk With his Shop Girls of Paris Émile Zola introduces the commercial space of the “grand magasin” into the literature. The contemporary authors Annie Ernaux ( Look at the Lights, My Love) and Natalia Fiedorczuk (How to Love Shopping Centers) revise that space and our relationships to the commonplaces (called by Marc Augé non-lieux/non-places). They invite us to see differently and to discern by literary texts the polyphony of contemporary commercial spaces.

L'objectif du présent mémoire de master consiste à présenter la figure de l'écrivaine française, Annie Ernaux, et le concept d'auto-socio-analyse qui caractérise son écriture. Le premier chapitre décrit brièvement les premières étapes de la carrière de l'auteure. En partant de la fascination précoce de la jeune Ernaux pour les travaux des Nouveaux Romanciers, puis en passant par ses débuts relativement infructueux dans ce mouvement, nous observons un virage progressif vers la pensée de gauche et la critique de classe, dont ses œuvres ultérieures s'inspireront. Cette partie du mémoire de master vise également à donner un aperçu des réalités de l'époque et des tendances qui se développent sur la scène littéraire française dans les années 1970 et 1980, en mettant l'accent sur l'influence de la sociologie de Pierre Bourdieu et de la critique féministe de Simone de Beauvoir sur l'œuvre d'Ernaux. Le chapitre suivant du mémoire analyse les techniques d’écriture de l’auteure. Il présente le concept d'auto-socio-biographie et décrit le style caractéristique de l'auteure, appelé l’écriture plate. Ensuite, sur la base d'un certain nombre de déclarations d'Ernaux, ainsi que du texte Littérature et politique, le chapitre se concentre sur les catégories de l'écriture engagée et de la responsabilité sociale littéraire. Le dernier chapitre est consacré à l’analyse du roman La place. L'interprétation de cette histoire sur la relation difficile entre la fille-écrivaine et son père, ainsi que son approche auto-socio-biographique, nous permet de tirer des conclusions non seulement sur les relations privées, mais aussi de comprendre la notion de trahison de classe ou de honte sociale.
Przedmiotem pracy magisterskiej jest przedstawienie sylwetki francuskiej pisarki Annie Ernaux oraz charakterystycznego dla jej pisarstwa konceptu auto-socjo-analizy.Rozdział pierwszy opisuje pokrótce początkowe etapy kariery autorki. Poczynając od wczesnych fascynacji młodej Ernaux twórczością Nowych Powieściopisarzy, przez stosunkowo nieudany debiut w tymże nurcie, obserwujemy stopniowy zwrot ku myśli lewicowej i krytyce klasowej, z których czerpać będą jej późniejsze utwory. Ta część pracy ma również na celu przybliżenie realiów epoki oraz tendencji rozwijających się na francuskiej scenie literackiej w latach 70. i 80., ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływów socjologii Pierre’a Bourdieu oraz krytyki feministycznej Simone de Beauvoir na twórczość Ernaux. Kolejny rozdział koncentruje się już na konkretnych technikach pracy pisarki. Prezentuje on zatem pojęcie auto-socjo-biografii, a także opisuje charakterystyczny styl autorki, nazywany pisarstwem płaskim. Następnie, na podstawie licznych wypowiedzi Ernaux, a także tekstu „Literatura i polityka”, rozdział skupia się na kategoriach pisarstwa zaangażowanego oraz literackiej odpowiedzialności społecznej. Ostatni rozdział zawiera analizę powieści „La place”. Interpretacja tej rodzinnej historii o trudnej relacji córki-pisarki z ojcem, a także jej auto-socjo-biograficznego podejścia, pozwala wyciągnąć wnioski nie tylko na temat prywatnych relacji, ale również zrozumieć pojęcie zdrady klasowej czy wstydu społecznego.
The aim of this Master's thesis is to present a profile of the French writer Annie Ernaux and the concept of auto-socio-biography, that is characteristic of her writing. The first chapter briefly describes the early stages of the author's career. Beginning with the Ernaux's early fascination with the work of the Nouveaux Romanciers, through her relatively unsuccessful debut in this movement, we observe the gradual turn towards leftist thought and class criticism that would inspire her later works. This section of the thesis also aims to provide an insight into the realities of the period and the trends developing on the French literary scene in the 1970s and 1980s, with a particular focus on the influence of Pierre Bourdieu's sociology and Simone de Beauvoir's feminist criticism on Ernaux's work. The next chapter focuses on the specific techniques of the writer. It thus presents the concept of auto-socio-biography and describes the author's characteristic style, called flat writing. Then, on the basis of a number of Ernaux's statements, as well as the text 'Literature and Politics', the chapter focuses on the categories of engaged writing and literary social responsibility. The final chapter analyses the novel 'La place'. The interpretation of this family story about the daughter-writer's difficult relationship with her father, as well as her auto-socio-biographical approach, allows us to draw conclusions not only about private relationships, but also to understand the notion of class betrayal or social shame.
