Managing human capital in Times of crisis
Zarządzanie kapitałem ludzkim w dobie kryzysu
Autorzy:
Waśniowska, Joanna
Opis:
This paper deals with the topic of human capital management in times of crisis. An attempt was made to present the changes taking place in the modern economy, shaping the decision to choose a model of human capital management and the impact of the crisis, specifically the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, on a radical change in management decisions. Today we are dealing with the labour market, the very high competitiveness of companies and the free movement of all capital resources have led organizations to adapt their objectives and strategies in such a way as to become the desired employment place for the employee. However, SARS-CoV-2 caused a complete revolution in human capital. The sanctions have created a very big challenge for entrepreneurs who want to maintain business continuity and at the same time fight to retain the greatest talents in the company. The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of the economic crisis on human capital management. The methodology adopted is based on a broad literature review and the use of the case study technique and is based on emerging scientific publications, surveys, and annual reports of companies. The information gathered makes it possible to draw conclusions confirming the very high correlation between the crisis and the management of human capital in the sectors most vulnerable to the crisis.

Autorzy:
Wziątek-Staśko, Anna
Ryszewska, Marta
Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the research conducted was to try to identify the competences of managers that positively influence employee trust. The relationship identified between managers' competences and employees' trust seems extremely interesting. It became the inspiration for the considerations presented in this article. Design/methodology/approach: The survey was conducted using the CAWI method, based on the author's survey questionnaire with a total of 14 questions. A Likert scale was used in the research process. Findings: The collected factual material exposes the special role in the process of building intra-organisational trust of such groups of competences as communication or human capital management. In addition, the studied influence of personality traits and trust determinants made it apparent that, for employees, one of the most important characteristics of a manager is emotional maturity. Research limitations/implications: The analysis of the survey results was carried out on the basis of 216 correctly completed questionnaires. Further research should be carried out on a larger number of respondents, taking into account industries and professional groups. Originality/value: This article is based on a thorough analysis of the literature on the topic and the authors' own research. It presents a model of managers' competences positively influencing employees' trust, developed on the basis of factual material. It is addressed to researchers dealing with the subject and managers seeking solutions in building intra-organisational trust.

Opis:
People should be at the centre of attention within knowledge-based economics. The leaders of each enterprise ought to focus on providing the best conditions for their employees’ professional and individual development and treat them with respect in terms of their dignity and needs. In contemporary literature two notions in perceiving people in organisations are noticeable. The first one treats employees as ‘resources’ which have to be properly used or as ‘capital’ that should bring a decent return on investment. The second notion derives a lot from Christian philosophy and sees the human as a person who treats work as a way to realize his calling and thus is able to take responsibility for the decisions made and actions taken. Acting in a constantly changing environment, people have to be flexible and able to take advantage of emerging opportunities and avoid threats. Within this process it is not a matter of being a human ‘being’ but rather becoming, which means that they are incessantly developing their potential. Although it is hard to predict human behaviour, the main task for managers is to lead in a way that will help employees use their full potential for both their own and the company’s benefit.
