Tytuł:: Should conservation of biodiversity involve private land? : a Q methodological study in Poland to assess stakeholders attitude

Opis:: Biodiversity conservation is gradually shifting its dependency on public protected areas to take a more holistic ecosystem and landscape approach that includes private lands in addition to public lands. However, effective practice of biodiversity conservation on private land also depends on landowners’ attitude and their willingness to participate and cooperate. This study focuses on Poland where conservation on private land is a relatively new concept but it is slowly gaining recognition, especially after its accession into the European Union. It investigates and classifies the diverse attitudes among stakeholder groups in Poland toward biodiversity conservation on private land that are part of protected areas. Four primary stakeholder groups were considered: conservation and park authorities, local administrative officials, local conservation based NGOs and private landowners. The study was conducted across three sites that represented three different forms of protected areas in Poland: a national park, a landscape park and a Natura 2000 site. Q methodology, a research method from psychology and other social sciences, was used to classify human subjectivity in stakeholders’ attitude in a more systematic manner. The analysis yielded three predominant factors which highlighted the diversity in attitudes among the stakeholder groups based on their knowledge, concerns and experience in the subject. Additionally, it underlined the common recognition among all stakeholder groups for better policy support, stronger collaboration among stakeholder and more financial or compensatory support for landowners to make private land conservation more feasible. Understanding the differences in attitudes will help bridge the gap between conservation priority and conservation opportunity-a current challenge in the field of biodiversity conservation.

Opis:: Incorporating human subjectivity in applied disciplines of social sciences and other base sciences poses a challenge as the nature of qualitative data is often the point of contention. Q methodology is a tool that addresses this challenge as it helps quantify qualitative data using Q factor analysis. Initially developed for psychology and political sciences, Q methodology now finds its use in many research disciplines of science, especially in interdisciplinary studies that take into account human subjectivity. This article provides a detailed description on the various steps involved in conducting a Q study, with special emphasis on data interpretation. To describe the methodology and demonstrate data interpretation, we used data from our pilot case study of socio-ecological nature that documents attitudes of people towards nature conservation on private land. Additionally, we mention the specific usefulness of this method, highlight the potential challenges at each step of the approach, and provide practical advice to overcome them. In our opinion, Q methodology has been more restricted in its use on the ground of being a more social or psychological tool, and therefore, our aim is to familiarize researchers who could be interested in a mixed approach of joining quantitative data analysis with qualitative, in-depth interpretation with the approach at hand.

Opis:: The article rejects various attempts to negate the subjectivity of human embryo, formulated among others in the Polish debate entitled 'Stem cells - life for life?' and organised by the Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology in 2003 and 2004. The Author thinks that the proposal to treat a human embryo as a deceased donor of organs, is wrong both in the field of embryology and philosophical anthropology. It is also wrong to question the subjectivity of human embryo using various criteria of growth (developed nervous system, brain, consciousness, participation in the life of society and looking after one's own interests). For these criteria do not define humanity but describe human being in various phases of expressions of his/her human nature. That is why it is not acceptable to make the right to life conditional on the stage and degree of the actualization of humanity. Furthermore, one cannot justify the deprivation of the subjectivity of human embryo because of medical progress and the so-called good of humankind. The acceleration of progress cannot be done at the cost of life of some group of human beings.
W artykule odrzucono różne próby zanegowania podmiotowości embrionu ludzkiego, sformułowane m.in. w polskiej debacie „Komórki macierzyste - życie za życie?” zorganizowanej przez Ministerstwo Nauki i Informatyzacji w 2003 i 2004 r. Autora staje na stanowisku, że propozycja traktowania embrionu ludzkiego jako zmarłego dawcy narządów jest błędna zarówno w dziedzinie embriologii, jak i antropologii filozoficznej. Błędem jest także kwestionowanie podmiotowości embrionu ludzkiego za pomocą różnych kryteriów wzrostu (rozwinięty układ nerwowy, mózg, świadomość, udział w życiu społeczeństwa i dbanie o własne interesy). Kryteria te bowiem nie definiują człowieczeństwa, lecz opisują człowieka w różnych fazach wyrażania jego ludzkiej natury. Dlatego nie do przyjęcia jest uzależnienie prawa do życia od stopnia i poziomu urzeczywistnienia się człowieczeństwa. Ponadto nie można usprawiedliwić pozbawienia podmiotowości ludzkiego embrionu postępem medycyny i tak zwanym dobrem ludzkości. Przyspieszenie postępu nie może odbywać się kosztem życia jakiejś grupy ludzi.

Opis:: Zmiany następujące w procesie pracy człowieka rzutują na jego podejście do tej formy aktywności i traktowanie jej jako wartości; a także prowokują do stawiania pytań o podmiotowość człowieka żyjącego w warunkach tych zmian. To właśnie w dwóch ostatnich zakresach rozważana jest w niniejszym opracowaniu podmiotowość pracownika. Podkreślono w nim konieczność podmiotowego podejścia do zasobów ludzkich. Zarządzanie zasobami ludzkimi opierać się powinno na podmiotowości konkretnych pracowników. Kształtowanie poczucia podmiotowości pracownika jest bowiem niezbędne w czasach ogromnych i niezwykle szybkich zmian cywilizacyjnych.
The changes that human work undergoes influence a person’s attitude towards this form of activity and the way they treat it as a value. Those changes also provoke one to ask questions about the subjectivity of the humans having to face those changes. They are reflected in human functioning as a subject. The significance of one’s subjectivity may be considered in terms of philosophy, sociology, psychology and pedagogy, but also the science of human resources management. The last two scopes are the ones within which the subjectivity of a worker is being examined in this paper. The necessity of a subjectivity-oriented approach to human resources has also been emphasized. Human resources management should base on the subjectivity of particular workers. The “towards humans” orientation has been gaining significance. Shaping workers’ feeling of subjectivity is absolutely essential in the times of extensive and very quick civilizational changes.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono problem uprzedmiotowienia pracy ludzkiej w tradycyjnej gospodarce kapitalistycznej. Wskazano na główne przyczyny tego zjawiska. Są nimi przede wszystkim: filozofia materialistyczna oraz charakterystyczny dla niej aparat pojęciowy, a także tradycyjna teoria rachunkowości finansowej, skoncentrowana na kapitale finansowym. Artykuł wyraźnie odwołuje się do etyki chrześcijańskiej – papieskiej encykliki o pracy ludzkiej Laborem Exercens – szukając w niej aksjologicznego oparcia dla przezwyciężenia napięcia pomiędzy pracą i kapitałem w przedsiębiorstwie. Konfliktu tego nie można przezwyciężyć, odwołując się do informacji ekonomicznych zaczerpniętych z tradycyjnej rachunkowości oraz sprawozdawczości. Niezbędne jest zatem naukowe poszukiwanie alternatywnych koncepcji rachunkowości, uwzględniających rozwój gospodarki opartej na wiedzy. Jedną z takich koncepcji jest rachunkowość kapitału intelektualnego.
The article presents the problem of objectification of human labor in the traditional capitalist economy. It pointed out the main reasons for this phenomenon. These are mainly: (1) materialist philosophy and its characteristic conceptual apparatus, (2) traditional theory of financial accounting focused on financial capital. Article makes explicit reference to Christian ethics – the encyclical Laborem Exercens, On Human Work – looking at the axiological support to overcome the tension between labor and capital in the enterprise. This conflict can not be overcome by referring to the economic information drawn from traditional accounting and reporting. It is therefore necessary scientific exploration of alternative accounting concepts taking into account the development of the knowledge-based economy. One such concept is intellectual capital accounting.

Opis:: Pomimo tego, iż uwzględnienie podmiotowości jednostki zdaje się być dziś zasadą wychowania, to zarazem sam termin „podmiotowość” różnie jest rozumiany, co funduje sprzeczne ze sobą modele wychowania. Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, iż personalizm nie tylko chroni podmiotowość wychowanka, ale i nie rezygnuje z wychowania, jak to się dzieje w przypadku antypedagogiki. Rolą wychowania personalistycznego nie jest przy tym w żadnym wypadku unicestwienie podmiotowości młodych ludzi, lecz wsparcie procesu preferencji oraz afirmacji przez nich właściwej hierarchii wartości, bez którego nie urzeczywistni się ich pełnia człowieczeństwa.
Although the inclusion of the subjectivity of an individual seems to be the principle of education today, the term “subjectivity” is differently understood, what establishes contradictory models of education.It happens so in the situations of influential and contrary models of subjectivity, presented by widely understood anti-pedagogy and Catholic personalism, which ascribe to it a strong connotation. The analysis of this problem in this article will determine the reflection on the understanding of subjectivity and the characteristics of postmodernity, especially personalism in this context. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that personalism not only protects the subjectivity of the pupil, but also doesn’t give up education as it happens in anti-pedagogics. The role of personalistic education is in no case to underestimate the subjectivity of young people, but to support the process of preferences and to affirm their proper hierarchy of values, without which their fullness of humanity will not materialize.

The research methodology in Speech Ethics is derived from the broadly understood linguistics and rhetoric. The pragmatic aim of Speech Ethics is to shape communication patterns that lead to mutual understanding.

Opis:: This work analyzes the critical views of the Chinese contemporary philosopher Jiwei Ci about the dominant conception of freedom in the western Liberal Order.The thesis adopts the normative analytical perspective of Political Philosophy to discuss how and why Jiwei Ci understands the prevalent idea of freedom promoted by western liberal societies as a rhetorical, constructed, and ideological notion. The main conclusion is that for Jiwei Ci, liberal freedom is not an absolute value, but a specific, arbitrary and biased view of human agency that implies “conformity” as well as “individuality”.
