Opis:
As one could expect, the greatest number of the Baltic hydronyms and toponyms are featured in the northeastern part of the Mazovia region in the area of the confluence of the entire Narew and lower Bug. These are mainly names of rivers (35), less numerous are place names (24). The majority of these names is motivated by names featured in the area of historical Prussia and Yatvingia. Moreover, some of them even have direct equivalents in that region; references to the Lithuanian language are less common. This enables us to surmise that the prehistorical Mazovia region was inhabited by West Baltic people, and the Slavic colonizers reached this area in the late prehistorical period.

Opis:
Wykorzystując trzy polskie mapy drogowe i jedną mapą turystyczną, wydanych w Polsce w latach 1972-1999, wykonane było doświadczenie, co do zapisu ukraińskich nazw miejscowości oraz niektórych hydronimów na tych mapach. Ustalono, że tylko na mapie 1999 r. wyd. większość tych nazw zapisane są prawidłowo, z zastosowaniem fonetycznej formy transkrypcji.
The entry of some Ukrainian names of settlements and elements of hydrography were analyzed on examples of four road and tourist maps published in 1972-1999 years. As it turned out, only on the map of 1999 considerable number of Ukrainian names was correctly giving with using phonetic form of its transcription.

The aim of this paper is the analysis of the names used in Poland and the Czech Republic for transboundary geographical objects lying on the common boundary. Each country, that has land boundaries, is also equipped with some geographic objects situated beyond its boundaries, i.e. objects beyond a single sovereignty (transboundary objects and objects lying on the boundary). Many of such objects have names — toponyms. It is not rare that different names are used for such objects on both sides of the boundary. Poland has land boundaries with seven countries. The longest stretch (796 km) constitutes the boundary with the Czech Republic. After the analysis of the Czech and Polish topographic maps that are available on the national geoportals, maps of the divisions into natural regions (Polish: “Regiony fizycznogeograficzne” [Physiographical Regions] 1 : 1 500 000 by J. Kondracki, A. Richling placed in “Atlas Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej” [Atlas of the Republic of Poland] and published by the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography, and Czech “Vyšší geomorfologické jednotky České republiky” 1 : 500 00 [Major Geomorphological Units of the Czech Republic] published by the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre), and toponymic databases (Polish the National Register of Geographical Names, and Czech Geonames — the Database of geographic names of the Czech Republic), it was established that 360 named geographic objects lie on this boundary. This number includes: 123 hydronyms (names of rivers and other streams), 224 oronyms (139 names of summits, 22 names of mountain passes, 35 names of mountain ranges and ridges, 15 names of highlands, plateaus and uplands, 7 names of mountain basins, valleys and depressions, 3 names of lowlands, and 3 names of rocks), 9 names of forests, 1 name of a mountain meadow (alp), and 3 names of tracks. 212 of these objects (59%) have names in both languages – Polish and Czech, however, in 99 cases (47% of objects that have name in both Polish and Czech languages) the Polish and Czech toponyms entirely do not correspond to each other. Of the remaining objects, 67 (18%) only have a Czech name, and 81 (23%) only have a Polish name. In some natural regions, the limits of their ranges set by the Czech and Polish geographers vary widely, for example a single region on one side of the boundary corresponds to two or more regions on the other side of the boundary. In other cases, illustrations of incorrectness are more sophisticated, like the river that has a different course according to the Czech or Polish maps (a stream regarded as a main watercourse in one country, which has its own name, but in another country is considered as a tributary with a different name). In summary, it should be stated that a large part of the Polish and Czech names of the geographical objects lying on the common boundary were drawn regardless of the names used in the neighboring country.

This dissertation has had a twofold purpose. The first one has been creating of a dictionary of Polish toponyms of the High Tatra (both Polish and Slovak part) basing on chosen sources (tourists guides and excursion descriptions from years 1815-2012). The second one has been signalising of the gathered materials for linguistic and cultural research by means of reconstruction of the manner of conceptualisation of mountain space which evidence are chosen Tatra toponyms. The material in form of 4625 proper names has undergone a semantic - motivational interpretation which is situated in the stream of ethnolinguistic research understood in a liguistic manner. This means that the subject of interest of the mentioned scientific field is discovery of conceptualisation manners present in language and characteristic for members of a certain society. In the analysys progress several aspects have been taken into consideration: conceptualisator’s identity, characteristic of conceptualisation’s subjects and processes which happen between them, in other words the point of view (deciding about the manner of subject perception), perspective which it is observed from as well as profiling which occurs in the motivational variety of names.
Niniejsza rozprawa miała dwojaki cel. Pierwszym było stworzenie słownika polskich toponimów Tatr Wysokich (części polskiej i słowackiej) w oparciu o wybrane źródła (przewodniki turystyczne i opisy podróży z lat 1815-2012), drugim zasygnalizowanie wartości zgromadzonego materiału dla badań językoznawczych i kulturowych poprzez podjęcie próby rekonstrukcji sposobu konceptualizacji przestrzeni górskiej, której językowym świadectwem są wybrane tatrzańskie toponimy. Materiał w postaci 4625 nazw własnych został poddany interpretacji semantyczno-motywacyjnej, która mieści się w nurcie badań etnolingwistycznych rozumianych w sposób językoznawczy. Oznacza to, że przedmiotem zainteresowań wspomnianej dziedziny nauki jest odkrywanie zawartych w języku sposobów konceptualizacji świata właściwych członkom danej społeczności. W toku analiz wzięto pod uwagę: tożsamość konceptualizatorów, charakterystykę przedmiotów konceptualizacji oraz procesy, jakie pomiędzy nimi zachodzą, czyli: punkt widzenia (decydujący o sposobie postrzegania przedmiotu), perspektywę, z jakiej jest on obserwowany oraz profilowanie przejawiające się w różnorodności motywacyjnej nazw.

This article presents some cultural, historical and linguistic insights on the names of the Szczutowskie and Urszulewskie Lakes, both situated in the historical Dobrzyńskie Lakeland, today on the border between the Mazovian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships (the historical border between Polish and Prussian-Teutonic states). The author also takes into account the description of the local place and terrain names, showing a common relation with the natural landscape, in which the two lakes are immersed.
