Opis:
We have been studying the high-precision three-dimensional measurement system using cameras. In this paper, our system is verified, and its application is reported. The principle of our measurement system is based on the stereo measurement. In our system, reducing the quantization error by numerical processing can realize the highprecision 3D measurement at the long distance. This measurement system has many applications, such as industrial use, ITS, robotics, and many others. Our system has been applied on the observation of the glacier. The Perito Moreno glacier, which is our target, moves very fast and the moving speed is reported as about 2 m/day. Then, it is thought that the important information about the global warming can be obtained by observing this glacier. But, as the width of the glacier is several km, there were no reports of continuously observing the movement of the glacier in high accuracy. As a result, the unique observation results about the daily movement of the glacier were measured. The observation of the glacier flow was carried out for the third straight year. In this paper, the valuable results of the glacier observation and experimental results to verify the precision are discussed.

Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) recognizes the importance of collaborative projects with Universities and how it contributes to technological development effectively. In spite of the world economical depression, several projects could get started this year leaded by SMC. As a researcher of SMC, Author takes charge of two collaborative projects and introduces these as typical examples of the most successful collaborations. The first is, "3D Measurement System for Crash Tested Car" at Shizuoka University (Japan) and Budapest Tech Polytechnical Institute (Hungary) from 2008; the second is, "High-Accuracy Stereo Vision System Based on Phase-Only Correlation (POC) and Its Application to metal Component Inspection" with Tohoku Univ. (Japan) 2003-2005. By these collaborations, the profound knowledge of universities has a lot of possibility to suits the technical needs of SMC.

The aim of the article. Numerous studies show that the key role in a politician’s image play voters’ beliefs concerning the politician’s personality traits. In order to be able to manage a politician’s image, one should answer two strictly interrelated questions: (1) what personality traits of politicians are important to voters and (2) how to measure them? There are three different solutions concerning the number of traits and the manner of dispositional measurement of politicians’ personality. The first group of researchers investigate politicians’ image using questionnaires developed ad hoc for the purposes of specific studies, not based on any models of personality. The second group of researchers start from the implicit or explicit assumption that voters perceive politicians on the same dimensions on which ordinary people is perceived; consequently, they measure perceived personality traits with the same tools that are used in psychological counselling centres. The results of numerous studies prove, however, that politicians’ personality is perceived on a smaller number of dimensions than ordinary people’s personality, which suggests the need for a systematisation of politicians’ personality traits as perceived by voters and the need to develop measurement scales corresponding to the dimensions identified. The third group of researchers have adapted the methodology of psycholexical research in personality psychology and used it for the purpose of studying the image of several dozen Ukrainian politicians in the years 2011-2014. The aim of the paper was to verify the findings of previous studies on the perception of Ukrainian politicians and to develop a scale for measuring politicians’ personality traits. The results of the analysis. In order to verify the factor structure and the psychometric properties of the scales, research with 210 students as participants was conducted before the 2012 parliamentary election in Ukraine. Test-retest stability was verified on a sample of 52 students at an interval of one month, at the turn of 2015. The results of principal component analysis at the individual and aggregated levels showed that individuals perceive politicians’ dispositional image on four dimensions: (1) Strength, (2) Intellect, (3) Dishonesty, (4) Confrontationality. Based on the results obtained, two versions of the questionnaire were developed: for the complete adjective list (4 scales х 7 adjectives) and for its abbreviated version (4 scales х 4 adjectives). The complete adjective list consisted of the following items: (1) Strength: persistent, daring, resolute, purposeful, strong, willed, leader; (2) Intellect: orator, eloquent, intellectual, cultured, educated, clever, knowledgeable; (3) Dishonesty: mercenary, lying, corrupt, crafty, two-faced, honest, sincere; (4) Confrontationality: calm, scandalous, restrained, confrontational, aggressive, emotional, balanced. Confirmatory factor analysis performed for the complete list and for its abbreviated version showed an acceptable fit of the model to M-centred data. The scales are characterised by good reliability and test-retest stability. The results of the analyses confirmed a strict relationship between the personality traits attributed to a politician and the attitude towards as well as preference for him or her and at both the individual and aggregated levels. The trait most strongly related to preference for politicians was their perceived Dishonesty, followed by Strength, while Confrontationality and Intellect were somewhat more weakly related to voter preference. Conclusions and directions for further researches. The results of the research have shown the stability of the four-factor structure of the perception of politicians at both the individual and ecological levels, confirmed the value of the developed personality scales in explaining the variance in preference for politicians and the good psychometric properties of the questionnaire concerning the internal consistency of the scales and the test-retest stability of measurement at the individual level.

Opis:
The paper presents a method of determining the volume of gas bubble formation. This issue is important because of the choice of parameters in the processes of mass exchange between gas and liquid. The idea of measurement method is based on filming the formation of gas bubbles, and on this basis is made image analysis process. These papers describe the steps relevant the separation of gas bubble image and calculations of its volume. In addition a sample researches have conducted, for whom defined the uncertainty of measurement. Analysis of the results determined the boundary intervals, at which a change in the pattern forming bubbles occurs, which results in that the diameter of the bubbles formed strongly depends on the gas stream emerging from the nozzle.

Opis:
The aim of the work was to verify hypothesis that colour of longitudinal section of carrot root may be represented by a selected segment of root or a cross-section. An image analysis was based on image data obtained for longitudinal sections of carrot roots using flatbed scanner and graphics editing software. Colour images were acquired into sRGB colour space and converted to CIE Lab. Sixteen segments of equal height were separated over whole length of root image. The colour difference metric was determined to present how colour of each segment differs from the mean colour of whole root. The root section was considered to be representative for whole root if colour difference metric was the least. The analysis of results confirmed a research hypothesis and allowed for finding representative section which was located at 10⁄16 of total root length measuring from the carrot root head.

Among the full-field optical measurement methods, the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is one of the techniques which has been given particular attention. Technically, the DIC technique refers to a non-contact strain measurement method that mathematically compares the grey intensity changes of the images captured at two different states: before and after deformation. The measurement can be performed by numerically calculating the displacement of speckles which are deposited on the top of object’s surface. In this paper, the Two-Dimensional Digital Image Correlation (2D-DIC) is presented and its fundamental concepts are discussed. Next, the development of the 2D-DIC algorithms in the past 33 years is reviewed systematically. The improvement of 2DDIC algorithms is presented with respect to two distinct aspects: their computation efficiency and measurement accuracy. Furthermore, analysis of the 2D-DIC accuracy is included, followed by a review of the DIC applications for two-dimensional measurements.

Opis:
High precision automated size measurements are required during industrial and scientific applications. The principle of sub-pixel measuring is based on an intensity interpolation algorithm. Combined with the characteristics of light, a system with high precision, short measuring time and low cost was developed. The proposed system is then applied to the measurement of 5 cm objects and compared with traditional measuring techniques. The experiment demonstrates that the measuring accuracy can reach up to 0.012 μm, and that the measurement size of the system is practical and prompt. In addition, it is able to meet the requirement for industrial applications in a variety of settings with stable performance and high precision.

Image intensifier tubes (IITs) are the most important modules of night vision devices used in huge numbers by military forces worldwide. Resolution is the most important parameter of IITs that presents information about ability of these devices to produce output images preserving information about details of the observed scenery. Despite its importance, it is still a common practice to measure resolution subjectively, by an observer looking at image of a resolution target created by a tested IIT. A series of attempts have been carried out to develop objective methods for accurate resolution measurement of IITs but with limited success. Accuracy of these methods varies depending on the tested IIT. This paper presents detailed analysis of proposed methods for objective resolution measurement. This analysis has shown that significant variability of accuracy of these methods is caused by one main drawback: the methods do not take into account influence of the spatial noise effect on human perception of image of the resolution target. Thus, an improved method taking into account spatial noise and its impact on target detection has been proposed. The method has been validated through experimental verification that shows accuracy improvements compared to other objective methods. This new approach improves accuracy of measurement of resolution of IITs to a level that can be accepted at professional test stations. In this way, this new method has potential to replace the standard subjective method to measure resolution of IITs and fix the biggest flaw of the standard test stations: measurement subjectivity.

This article presents a computer vision method for measuring the geometrical parameters of slub yarn based on yarn sequence images captured from a moving slub yarn. An image segmentation method proposed by our earlier work was applied to segment sequence slub yarn images to obtain overlapping diameter data. Then an image stitching method was proposed to remove the overlapped data based on the normalised cross correlation (NCC) method. In order to detect the geometrical parameters of slub yarn, the frequency histogram, curve fitting , and spectrogram methods were adopted to analyse the sequence diameter data obtained. Four kinds of slub yarn with different geometrical parameters were tested using the method proposed and Uster method. The experimental results show that the detection results for slub amplitude, slub length, slub distance, and slub period obtained using the method proposed were consistent with the set values and Uster results.
W artykule przedstawiono komputerową metodę pomiaru parametrów geometrycznych przędzy fantazyjnej na podstawie sekwencjonowania obrazów. Metoda segmentacji obrazu zaproponowana we wcześniejszej pracy została zastosowana do obrazów przędzy fantazyjnej w celu uzyskania danych dotyczących pomiarów średnicy. Następnie, w celu usunięcia nakładających się danych, zaproponowano metodę obróbki obrazu opartą o znormalizowaną metodę korelacji krzyżowej (NCC). W celu wykrycia parametrów geometrycznych przędzy fantazyjnej zastosowano histogram częstotliwości oraz dopasowanie krzywej i metody spektrogramowe do analizy uzyskanych danych. Za pomocą proponowanej metody i metody Uster przeanalizowano cztery rodzaje przędz fantazyjnych o różnych parametrach geometrycznych. Wyniki eksperymentalne wykazały, że wyniki detekcji amplitudy, długości, odległości i okresu wzgrubień uzyskane przy użyciu proponowanej metody były zgodne z wartościami zadanymi i wynikami Uster.
