Opis:
This research is concerned with the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning within multi-hierarchical caching systems, specifically targeting vehicular and edge caching domains. This study introduces an innovative architecture harmonizing Thompson sampling learning-based caching policies with advanced vehicle clustering and content-popularity prediction methods (TS-MMCM). Simulations show substantial performance improvements and a big impact of the proposed approach on system efficiency in dynamic network environments. The proposal demonstrates a notable gain in cache hit rates and decreased latency levels, highlighting the potential of AI to improve caching techniques in dynamic network environments.

Opis:
The Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) has become a vital research area in order to enhance passenger and road safety, increasing traffic efficiency and enhanced reliable connectivity. In this regard, for monitoring and controlling the communication between IoVs, routing protocols are deployed. Frequent changes that occur in the topology often leads to major challenges in IoVs, such as dynamic topology changes, shortest routing paths and also scalability. One of the best solutions for such challenges is “clustering”. This study focuses on IoVs’ stability and to create an efficient routing protocol in dynamic environment. In this context, we proposed a novel algorithm called Cluster-based enhanced AODV for IoVs (AODV-CD) to achieve stable and efficient clustering for simplifying routing and ensuring quality of service (QoS). Our proposed protocol enhances the overall network throughput and delivery ratio, with less routing load and less delay compared to AODV. Thus, extensive simulations are carried out in SUMO and NS2 for evaluating the efficiency of the AODV-CD that is superior to the classic AODV and other recent modified AODV algorithms.

Opis:
The ENDURUNS project is a European Research project of the Horizon 2020 framework, which has as its main objective to achieve the optimum and intelligent use of green hydrogen energy for long-term ocean surveys. The ENDURUNS system comprises an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) and an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) with gliding capability. The power pack of the USV integrates Li-ion batteries with photovoltaic panels, whilst the AUV employs Li-ion batteries and a hydrogen fuel cell. It is essential to develop a continuous monitoring ca-pability for the different systems of the vehicles. Data transmission between the devices onboard presents challenges due to the volume and structure of the different datasets. A telecommunications network has been designed to manage the operational components considered in the project. The autonomous vehicles perform measurements, providing their position and other data wirelessly. The system will generate a great volume of various signals during the survey. The Remote Control Centre needs to be interfaced with the vehicles in order to receive, manage and store the acquired data. An Underwater Internet of Things (IoT) platform is designed to establish efficient and smart data management. This study presents an exhaustive survey to analyse the telecommunication systems employed in the autonomous vehicles, including the back-end, user interface and mobile units. This paper presents the novel design of the hardware and software structure of the ENDURUNS project with regard to the literature, where its components and their in-terconnection layers are detailed, which is a novel scientific and technological approach for autonomous seabed surveying in deep oceans or in coastal areas.

Opis:
Nowadays, the desire and the emphasis, which are put on continuous development, drive the innovative ideas all over the word. As an effect, the concept of Smart City was created. This term refers to the cities where logistics and public means of transport are crucial. One of the pioneering ideas implemented in Smart City is the possibility of renting a vehicle for minutes. This solution is proposed mainly in the big metropolises, and thanks to the development of Internet of Things, it has recently gained huge popularity. Among the offered vehicles, there are not only classic, ordinary passenger cars, but also the alternative means of transport such as: electric scooters, bicycles and delivery vehicles. In the context of the implementation of Smart City, Katowice decided to allow the transport-sharing companies to introduce their services within Silesia Province. The following project studies the competitiveness of transport-sharing enterprises’ services. The final conclusion shows that the variety of different transport-sharing companies’ proposals give customers the opportunity to choose the most appropriate and economical option for them in a particular moment.

Opis:
Freight transportation is a crucial part of the global economy, but it encounters several complex challenges, with truck drivers at the centre of these issues. These professionals, responsible for transporting goods over long distances, often work in challenging conditions, exposing them to a range of risks, including physical, psychological, and chemical hazards. These risks make the profession less appealing to younger drivers, leading to an ageing workforce and worsening the driver shortage crisis in the road transport sector. This article aims to identify the various risks faced by truck drivers and examine their negative impacts on several critical aspects, including company image, service quality, financial implications, and road safety. Additionally, the article explores the transformative impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and autonomous vehicles (AV) on the truck driving profession.

Opis:
Internet of Things devices that send small amounts of data do not need high bit rates as it is the range that is more crucial for them. The use of popular, unlicensed 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands is fairly legally enforced (transmission power above power limits cannot be increased). In addition, waves of this length are very difficult to propagate under field conditions ( e.g. in urban areas). The market response to these needs are the LPWAN (Low Power WAN) type networks, whose main features are far-reaching wireless coverage and low power measurement end-nodes that can be battery powered for months. One of the promising LPWAN technologies is the LoRa WAN, which uses a publicly available 868 MHz band (in Europe) and has a range of up to 20 km. This article presents how the LoRa WAN network works and describes the installation of the research and measurement infrastructure in this technology which was built in the Gdańsk area using the Academic Computer Center TASK network infrastructure. The methodology and results of the qualitative and performance studies of the constructed network with the use of unmanned aircraft equipped with measuring devices for remote collection of environmental data are also presented. The LoRaWAN TASK has been designed to support the development of other research projects as an access infrastructure for a variety of devices. Registered users can attach their own devices that send specific metrics that are then collected in a cloud-based database, analyzed and visualized.
