Opis:
The paper provides an analysis of the way of presenting and assessing the input concerning culture proposed in some coursebooks for Italian as L2-FL published between 2014 and 2016 and covering levels A1, A2 and B1 of CEFR (namely il Balboni, Nuovo Espresso and Nuovo Contatto). The study is based on the theory of Geert Hofstede, who distinguished four categories of culture elements: symbols, heroes, rituals and values. The analysis confirms the presence of all these components in the studied materials, although it clearly highlights the imbalance between them. This is due to their intrinsic characteristics that affect the ease with which precise cultural information can be conveyed in a language class. Moreover, the distinction between cultura and civiltà has not been maintained. The conclusions also bring to light some issues that can be encountered by both Polish teachers and students if using the aforementioned resources within an FL course.

Opis:
Food and, consequently, the language that describes it represent one of the areas of culture and language in which there has been the strongest assertion of an identity model. This is the result of the sum of different local components. Until the beginning of the 20th century (essentially until the lesson of Pellegrino Artusi), the gastronomic lexicon had moved toward Frenchizing models (i.e. Francesco Leonardi’s Apicio moderno). During the last century, it rapidly descended into an essentially national dimension but also with a kind of “globalization” of the typical product, whereby it is natural to find Sicilian cannoli in Bozen and strudel in Palermo), and finally local, with the revaluation of local products (for example, with the defense and valorization of slow food). Added to this is the progressive expansion of the space that the language of food has in dictionaries and also in the “vocabolario di base” of Italian (significant in this regard are the entries made in the Nuovo De Mauro with respect to GRADIT): precisely by starting from the description of the lexicon of food in the Italian lexicography of use, an interpretation of the relationship between Italian, regionalism and dialectalism in the describing of an identity share of the Italian lexicon will be proposed.

Since antiquity man has been studying irony, it has always been in the center of a continuous debate of scholars of many different scientific disciplines: from Socrates to Aristophanes, from Plato and Aristotle to Cicero and Quintilianus, St. Thomas Aquinas, Baldassarre Castiglione, to the German Romantics. Irony is a world with many acceptations: for this reason, as irony is a rethorical component and a very important element of italian language and culture, it is a very interesting element, which can be used in glottodidactics. The following pages provide a brief overview on the various conceptions of irony, then move on to the suggestion of practical exercises where irony can be used in teaching italian language.

From Padova to Krakow: reminiscences of Nelly Nucci (1901–1940) as Italian language teacher and promoter at the Jagiellonian University The purpose of the article is to analyse life as well as literary works and years of teaching Italian in Poland of Nelly Nucci, an Italian lecturer at the Jagiellonian University for almost a decade. The analysis of the above mentioned aspect is based on documents from archives and journalism from this period, which allows us to get to know the activity of the person, who with time became a Polish language and literature professor in Italy. This article presents also her scientific activities which embraces both Polish and Italian literature and leads to consolidation of relations between the two countries. The article is a rememberance of prof. Nucci’s works, nowadays unfairly forgotten nevertheless representing an important stage of development of Italian studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

Opis:
For a graph G, a Roman {3}-dominating function is a function f : V → {0, 1, 2, 3} having the property that for every vertex u ∈ V, if f(u) ∈ {0, 1}, then f(N[u]) ≥ 3. The weight of a Roman {3}-dominating function is the sum w(f) = f(V) = Σv∈V f(v), and the minimum weight of a Roman {3}-dominating function is the Roman {3}-domination number, denoted by γ{R3}(G). In this paper, we present a sharp lower bound for the double Italian domination number of a graph, and improve previous bounds given in [D.A. Mojdeh and L. Volkmann, Roman {3}-domination (double Italian domination), Discrete Appl. Math. 283 (2022) 555–564]. We also present a probabilistic upper bound for a generalized version of double Italian domination number of a graph, and show that the given bound is asymptotically best possible.

Opis:
The phenomenon of “neodialettalità” is examined from to perspectives. Initially the term was used to describe works of Italian poets in vernacular languages. Such choice of language was a result of Italian poets’ protest in 1960s against gradual disappearance of vernacular languages and cultural traditions inherent to them. Currently the phenomenon of “neodialettalità” is a consequence of revolutionary sociocultural changes which took place over the last 30-40 years. Those changes did make Italian commonly used but at the cost of vernacular languages which for decades have been pushed to the margin and considered to be a symbol of backwardness or social degradation. It should come as no surprise then that those languages degenerated (or degraded, went through a crisis – author’s comment) and as a result cultural values inherent to them did too. Currently we can observe in Italian society a desire to partly resurrect those traditions though popularization of vernacular languages in many aspects of social life: in literature, advertising, graffiti, newspapers, websites etc. In this paper the author analyses novels of two authors from Apulia region whose works, both in terms of language and sociopragmatics, refer to the phenomenon of “neodialettalità”.

Opis:
This article celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the first degree program in Italian Philology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, offering a broad historical and contemporary overview of Italian Studies in Poland. Following an introduction on the early development of Italian studies in the country, it examines the founding and evolution of the Department of Italian Studies in Kraków, whose academic and cultural contribution has strengthened over the years. The article also highlights the spread of Italian studies across other Polish universities, underscoring the vitality and growing significance of the Italian language and culture within the national academic landscape. Furthermore, it explores the main forms of promotion of Italianist research in Poland, including the activities of the Polish Association of Italianists (founded in 2015), academic journals, the Chronicle and Bibliography of Italian Studies in Poland, as well as the organization of national and international academic conferences. Far from being a mere commemoration, the article offers a critical and forward-looking assessment of the progress made, emphasizing the role of Italian Studies as a cultural bridge capable of meeting contemporary academic challenges and of promoting the Italian language in an increasingly interconnected European context.
