Opis:
The entire Whitmore Point Member of the Moenave Formation was sampled in close stratigraphic sequence (+0.3 m) from a vertical exposure in southwestern Utah. The polarity sequence in the Whitmore Point Member is essentially normal polarity, with five or more very short reversed intervals interspersed and a <1 m reversed interval at the top of the sequence. This polarity pattern dates the Whitmore Point Member as Hettangian. In the earliest Jurassic, the North American plate rotated even further westward from its Late Triassic position, and the movement appears to have been accompanied by an abrupt increase in plate motion because of the similarity in position of many Late Triassic paleopoles. The Moenave pole forms the ‘J-1 cusp’ of the North American apparent polar wander curve. The paleopole obtained by this study is somewhat further westward than those of previous studies. Within the 27 m of a mostly normal polarity sequence, the data show multiple, exceedingly short polarity intervals. The magnetization carrier is a maghemite-magnetite mineral, with the magnetization of an additional hematite carrier superposed. The lithostratigraphic sequence of the Moenave Formation is terminated by an unconformable surface, overlain by the Springdale Sandstone. Paleomagnetic directions of the Whitmore Point Member are exceedingly similar to those of the overlying Springdale Sandstone. Even though the two lithologic bodies are separated by a clear disconformity, the similarity in pole positions suggests that the two are closely related in time. It is possible that this disconformity represents the termination of the westward excursion of North America in earliest Jurassic time. The entire Whitmore Point Member of the Moenave Formation was sampled in close stratigraphic sequence (+0.3 m) from a vertical exposure in southwestern Utah. Opis:
The Kayenta Formation is the third in a series of stratigraphic units making up the Glen Canyon Group that were sampled along US Hwy 89 in southern Utah. The Kayenta is dominantly reversed polarity with a number of very short normal polarity intervals. Above the Kayenta and interbedded in the Navajo Sandstone is the Tenney Canyon Tongue of the Kayenta Formation. The lower half of the Tenney Canyon Tongue was also sampled and is dominantly normal polarity with three short reversed polarity intervals. The dominantly reversed magnetostratigraphy of the Kayenta appears to match that of Early Pliensbachian polarity interval “e-Pli R.” The dominance of normal polarity of the Tenney Canyon Tongue suggests that the Tenney Canyon may have been deposited in the upper half of the Pliensbachian polarity interval “ePli-N.” The suggested polarity matches indicate that the Kayenta and Tenney Canyon Tongue strata are 187–190 Ma in age. The paleopoles of the two units are statistically identical. The combined data of the Kayenta-Springdale-Whitmore Point show that the J-1 cusp terminated before the deposition of the Kayenta Formation. The North American continent/pole returned to its Late Triassic position during/after Springdale time, apparently along the same path used to reach the apex of the J-1 cusp.

Opis:
In order to determine reasons of unsatisfactory production output regarding one of the 12 MVA furnaces, a comparative analysis with a furnace of higher power that showed a markedly better production output was performed. For comparison of ferrosilicon furnaces with different geometrical parameters and transformer powers, the theory of physical similarity was applied. Geometrical, electrical and thermal parameters of the reaction zones are included in the comparative analysis. For furnaces with different geometrical parameters, it is important to ensure the same temperature conditions of the reaction zones. Due to diverse mechanisms of heat generation, different criteria for determination of thermal and electrical similarity for the upper and lower reaction zones were assumed contrary to other publications. The parameter c3 (Westly) was assumed the similarity criterion for the upper furnace zones where heat is generated as a result of resistive heating while the parameter J1 (Jaccard) was assumed the similarity criterion for the lower furnace zones where heat is generated due to arc radiation.

Autorka w krytycznym omówieniu monografii Język ojczysty w edukacji szkolnej w Polsce, Czechach i na Słowacji przedstawia możliwości prowadzenia badań porównawczych w zakresie dydaktyk języków ojczystych.
The author of a critical review of the monograph entitled Język ojczysty w edukacji szkolnej w Polsce, Czechach i na Słowacji  [“The mother tongue in school education in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia”] presents the possibilities of conducting comparative research in the field of mother-tongue teaching. Until now, researchers of this sub-discipline have rarely used the achievements used by linguists from abroad. The situation – as the monograph analyzed by the author shows – is slowly changing. The studies presented in the reviewed book concern didactic aspects of various levels of language. They are similar in a functional approach to teaching the mother tongue. The author of the review points out that such profiled research on language education in one country may raise awareness of language education in neighboring countries.

Opis:
The first words of the Prologue to St. John’s Gospel – “In the beginning” – are a literary allusion to the first words of Genesis. The Evangelist continues in this manner a long tradition of wisdom literature, which interpreted and developed creation theology, in particular in the texts where Wisdom was personified (Prov 8,22–23 and Sir 24). In fact, the first word of the Prologue (ἐν ἀρχῇ) refers its readers not just to the creation narrative, but to biblical wisdom literature and indeed to the whole corpus of Scripture, i.e. Old Testament, as the interpretative key to the Fourth Gospel.

Opis:
Interpreting the pericope about the resurrection of Lazarus, Augustine began his commentary with a reflection about three resurrection miracles described in the Gospels. Namely the raising to life Jairus’ daughter, young man of Nain and Lazarus. The latter seems to be the richest in theological meaning. Augustine compared these three dead with three types of sin (in the heart, in deed and out of habit). Those dead were raised to life by Jesus. He is the one who has the power to do so. The forgiveness of sins is here presented as a spiritual resurrection. However in the most serious situation is Lazarus. It is a picture of the sinner, who not only commits sin, but is subjected to a habit. The forgiveness of sins is done by the power of Christ, but there is also the need for confession of sin, repentance, and the interference of Mother Church, which releases us from the bondage of sin.

The chemiluminescence of stimulated cells with phorbol myristate acetate and the production of nitric oxide after stimulation with lipopolisaccharide in the presence of the parent compounds FAA (flavone-8-acetic acid = (4-oxo-2- phenyl-4H-chromen-8-yl)acetic acid), XAA (xanthone-4-acetic acid = (9-oxo-9Hxanthen-4-yl)acetic acid), and appropriate xanthone derivatives (1-7) was determined. Also the toxicity of the FAA, MFAA ((6-methyl-4-oxo-2-aryl-4Hchromen-8-yl)acetic acid), XAA and 1–7 against J-774A.1 cultured cells was evaluated. Compound 5 (2-methyl-2-{[(9-oxo-9H-xanthen-2-yl)methyl]sulfanyl}- propanoic acid) was effective in inhibiting chemiluminescence of J-774A.1 cells but most of the other tested compounds stimulated the reaction. FAA and two xanthones with a methoxycarbonyl moeity slightly decreased the generation of nitric oxide at 50 μM. Most of the tested compounds (1-7) showed weak toxicity at concentration of 100 μM.

Opis:
The article argues – within the sacramental framework – for a specifically penitential interpretation of the Johannine foot-washing narrative, adding a new argument in favor of a penitential reading of the pericope. Prefaced by a list of eleven arguments in favor of this approach, a new rationale is then presented, this time based on advances in cultural anthropology as reflected in the works of J.H. Neyrey and R. DeMaris. Neyrey’s reading of Jn 13:1-20 sees both a rite of status transformation (in vv. 6-11) and a ceremony confirming roles and statuses (in vv. 12-20); this is further enriched by DeMaris’s reading arguing for the presence of one particularly Johannine rite, which confirmed and renewed the disciples’ status gained through baptism. Both of the above readings are now reinterpreted by means of a sacramental key. As a result, the meaning of the foot-washing points toward a sacramental practice, namely a penitential rite of confession and remission of post-baptismal sins, as reflected in other Johannine texts (Jn 20,22-23; 1 Jn 5,14-16).
