Opis:: Taboo exists in many cultures in the world, it is present also in Korean culture. That phenomenon takes various forms and its existence could be induced both by religious and cultural factors. It could be visible in individual person’s way of speaking and behavior, his or her perception of the world or even generational affiliation. Taboo is reflected in one’s value system, approach to religion and in a broader context – in a nation’s folk customs, superstitions and beliefs. The aim of this article is to present how the phenomenon of taboo manifests itself in Korean culture, language and literature. The main material for linguistic analysis are "geumgi eo" – taboo words and expressions regarding forbidden and unlucky behaviors or actions. Korean taboo words exist also in the form of euphemisms (wangok eo) and replacement words (daeyong eo). Second part of the article consists of an analysis of taboo in literature on an example of a folk story “A field mouse that became human” which presents superstitions and behaviors perceived as forbidden in Korean folklore.

Opis:: This paper aims to provide general presentation of Korean landscape painting with historic consideration. Some Korean elements of landscape were introduced in the early 5th century, and since the 7th century, mountains have become an important theme in the formation of the image space. From the 10th to the 17th centuries, the Korean landscape developed under Chinese rule. However, in the early 18th century a new painting trend – “Koreanization of the Korean landscape” – appeared and there also had emerged the folk landscape style. Furthermore, in the contemporary Korean landscape there are various attempts towards the search for one’s own artistic vision.
Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie koreańskiego malarstwa pejzażowego na tle historycznym. Niektóre elementy malarstwa pejzażowego pojawiły się w sztuce już w V wieku, a od VII wieku motyw gór stał się ważnym tematem. Od X do VII wieku widać wpływy chińskie na malarstwo koreańskie. Natomiast od XVIII wieku wyraźnie można zaobserwować nowy trend koreanistyczny oraz styl ludowy malarstwa pejzażowego. Natomiast we współczesnym malarstwie widoczne są tendencje do odnajdywania własnej wizji artystycznej w tym zakresie.
본 논문은 한국 산수화에 대한 전반적인 역사적 고찰을 의도로 하고 있다. 5세기 초 산수화에 한국적인 요소가 도입된 후 7세기 이후 산을 주제로 한 장면은 이미지를 형성하는 주요 주제가 되어 왔다. 10-17세기 한국의 산수화는 중국 양식을 통해 발전하였다. 하지만 18세기 초 « 한국 산수화의 한국화 »라는 새로운 경향이 일어났으며, 민속 산수화 양식도 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라 한국의 현대 산수화에는 특유의 새로운 예술 세계를 향해 다양한 시도가 나타나게 된다.

Opis:: The Shincheonji Church of Jesus is a new religious movement of Christian origin in South Korea. In February 2020, the church became the first mass infection cluster in the country. The ruling Democratic Party used this opportunity to blame Shincheonji for spreading the virus. The Korean media chose a similar narration to criticize this religion and its practices. Shincheonji already had a bad press due to a few scandals it was involved in. Global media also usually uncritically became interested in the "dangerous cult" story. In this paper, I argue that Shincheonji became the perfect political scapegoat, which helped the government in avoiding taking the responsibility for rapid growth of COVID patients. Until then, South Korea did not install social distancing policies and for most citizens of China there were no travel restrictions to South Korea. However, the government successfully transferred public criticism from itself to the minor church. This study shows that although some Shincheonji practices are controversial, they seem not unusual in the highly competitive South Korean religious market. Shincheonji Church of Jesus seems to have become a victim of political stigmatization and an example of scapegoating in South Korean politics.

Opis:: The intensively developing Polish-Korean contacts and direct access to the knowledge of South Korea as one of the major East Asian countries obtained from Internet and media coverage have resulted in Korean toponyms being assimilated in the Polish language to an increasing extent. However, they are adapted in a number of ways, being mediated through two main systems of Latinising the Korean language, i.e. the McCune-Reischauer transcription and the modified MOE transcription, which is officially propagated by Korean authorities. This leads to a certain competition between the two systems, which are, moreover, o en used in the situation of not only lack of command of the source language itself, but also ignorance of the conventional rules of the Latin transcription of Korean geographical names, which are different in both transcriptions. Moreover, toponyms must be assimilated based on various compromises between the phonological system of the source language and the system of the receiving language. Such a helpful compromise might be an additionally used Polonised transcription in the resource of le er symbols, but this requires substantial adjustments and additions as well as unavoidable concessions to make it easier for Polish recipients to decipher texts about Korea. From the perspective of historical standardisation of some characteristic Korean toponyms in Polish publications, various transcription tools, methods of their assimilation and adaptations, as well as the obvious cognitive barriers might become definitely more pronounced and informative for both text authors and recipients.

Tytuł:: Hell deconstructed : two visions of hell in "Along with the gods: the two worlds" and "Hellbound"

Opis:: In South Korea, despite views of religion as offering solace, the concept of hell maintains a strong presence. Narratives about hell are common across the major religions but are also found in the non-denominational sphere. We analyze two examples of cinematic visions of hell found in the South Korean film Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (Kim Yong-hwa, 2017) and the South Korean TV series Hellbound (Yeon Sang-ho, 2021). While Along with the Gods uses hell as a spectacular space, Hellbound, by removing the question of morality from hell, subverts its meaning. Although in their depictions both series refer to the traditional vision of hell, especially that of Buddhism, their interpretation goes beyond traditional models. We argue that the representation of hell in both works can be read as a polemic or even a critique of institutional religions and is an example of religious bricolage in post-secular South Korea.

Przeprowadzono również badanie, które ma pomóc w określeniu zmian społecznych i ich przyczyn.
The subject of this thesis the Korean taboo and its breaking in dramas that have a peculiar impact on the changes taking place in Korean society.The aim of the study is to analyze the individual taboos that cause social problems. Three chapters describe the most important issues that will help illustrate Korean society and its problems. A study has also been carried out to help map out social changes and their causes.

Opis:: Northeast Asia is a particularly complex area in the world especially in terms of security. The main theme of this article is that Korean Peninsula is pivotal point to policy of all regional great powers: United States, China, Russia and Japan. It analyses the clashing value system of the two Koreas, liberal-minded South Korea and totalitarian North Korea. Their political, economical, social relations and possible scripts of reunification. It also concerns about vital problems of Peninsula which have a lot of influence to the international affairs such as Korean Nuclear Crisis with detail re- construction of the course of latest events mostly form Chinese perspective. The Six-Party Talks are of great significance not only for resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, but also for forming a relatively formal framework of security organization.

Opis:: Celem pracy jest przedstawienie genezy przybycia i opisanie pobytu koreańskich dzieci na terenie Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej w latach 1951 – 1959. Problematyka tematu wymagała omówienia Wojny Koreańskiej oraz współpracy polsko – koreańskiej, która wpłynęła na fakt, iż dzieci północnokoreańskie trafiły do wybranych krajów europejskich, w tym Polski. Ponadto kontynuując tematykę partnerstwa Polski i państw Półwyspu Koreańskiego zawarto w pracy obecne stosunki i współpracę Rzeczypospolitej z obiema Koreami. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział stanowi o przyczynach, przebiegu i skutkach Wojny Koreańskiej. Drugi rozdział to analiza i przedstawienie historii sierot koreańskich przebywających na Gołotczyźnie oraz w Płakowicach, w oparciu o źródła filmowe oraz literaturę. Ostatni, trzeci rozdział, to epilog historii azjatyckich dzieci, jego następstwa oraz analiza współczesnych relacji i współpracy pomiędzy Polską i krajami Półwyspu Koreańskiego.
The aim of the thesis is to present the genesis of the arrival and description of the stay of Korean children in the Republic of Poland from 1951–1959. The subject matter required discussing the Korean War and Polish-Korean cooperation, which influenced the fact that North Korean children went to selected European countries, including Poland. In addition, continuing the subject of the partnership between Poland and the Korean Peninsula states the current relations and cooperation of the Republic of Poland with both Koreas. Thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter is about the causes, course and effects of the Korean War. The second chapter is the analysis and presentation of the history of Korean orphans residing in Gołotczyzna and Płakowice based on film sources and literature. The last, third chapter, is the epilogue of Asian children's history, its consequences and analysis of contemporary relations and cooperation between Poland and the countries of the Korean Peninsula.

Opis:: The Korean Peninsula has a strategic place in East Asia. According to Korean historic sources the early beginnings of Korean statehood can be traced back many centuries before Christ. Korean history, when considering some events, has some similarities to the history of Poland. Very often Koreans, during the official meetings compare their historic struggles with ours, for example times of partitions and fi ghting against numerous occupying powers. In the past due to its geographic location, Korea had to continuously withstand the expansion of its neighbours, especially China and Japan. Particularly painful was the period of fighting against the Japanese invader at the beginning of 20th century, when after the annexation of Korea, the Japanese were imposing the policy of assimilation and were trying to completely colonize this country. It has unleashed very strong nationalist sentiments within the Korean nation.
