Opis:: In modern architecture, slates, phyllites and schists are becoming more and more popular, and the example of Polish deposits of slates, phyllites and schists indicates that, in the last 10 years, the traditional method of using these rocks as raw material, e.g. for the production ofgranular surface, silty carriers of plant protection products or refractory material, has become gradually dominated by their use as dimension stones. The paper presents the first ranking of the decorative aspects, carried out for slates, phyllites and schists originating from active deposits: Orlowice, Jawornica, Dewon-Pokrzywna, Jeglowa and Jenków, located in the Sudetic Block and Fore-Sudetic Block (Lower Silesian Block, SW Poland). Evaluation of the decorative aspects of slates, phyllites and schists, which takes into account the colour, textural and structuralfeatures of the rock, its ability to be polished, and petrologic type, revealed that the primary and secondary petrographic types documented in these deposits have a high decorative value, mainly because of attractive colour and structural arrangement of mineral components. It should be noted that in the group of over 150 different varieties of colourful metamorphic slates on the stone market in the European Union, Polish slates, phyllites and schists are characterised by unique colours. Therefore, the high decorative value and unique colours characteristic of the Polish slates, phyllites and schists is their essential trait that conditions their use as decorative stone material with a wide range of applications.

Opis:: The Precambrian basement and Lower Paleozoic (Cambrian–Ordovician) sedimentary cover in the eastern part of the Upper Silesian Block (Brunovistulicum), known only in boreholes, is presented, and their palaeogeographic, facies and palaeotectonic development is discussed. The former is characterized by a heterogeneous structure that consists of Archean-Lower Proterozoic and Neoproterozoic rocks of different lithologies and origins, and the latter is almost exclusively represented by marine, transitional and terrestrial siliciclastic rocks. In contrast to the neighbouring region of the western part of the Małopolska Block, the siliciclastic sedimentation took place during the Early and Middle Cambrian in this area, however, the Ordovician deposits were encountered in several boreholes and no Silurian rocks have been reported in the northern part of this region. The authors present the most probable model of sedimentation, tectonics and origin of the geological structure of the Lower Paleozoic sedimentary cover in the Upper Silesian Block, define research problems, and justify the need for new drillings. Based on the geological and structural analysis of the depth to the top surface of the Lower Paleozoic, they define the optimal location for three 1500 m deep boreholes to solve the basic research problems.

Opis:: Forty foraminifera taxa belonging to the class Fusulinata are described from Upper Devonian to Lower Carboniferous carbonates of the Dębnik anticline (Upper Silesian Block, southern Poland). Twenty-three species of foraminifera within the subclasses Afusulinana and Fusulinana have been recognized in thin sections. They belong to the three orders: Archaediscida, Endothyrida and Fusulinida. The order Archaediscida contains two superfamilies Archaediscoidea and Tournayelloidea, whereas the order Endothyrida encompasses three suborders (Lituotubellina, Endothyrina, Palaeotextulariina) with eight superfamilies: Lituotubelloidea, Septabrunsiinoidea, Quasiendothyroidea, Endothyroidea, Bradyinoidea, Loeblichioidea, Palaeotextularioidea and Tetrataxoidea. However, the order Fusulinida (sensu Vachard et al., 2010) contains the superfamily Ozawainelloidea restricted to the Ozawainellidae and Eostaffellidae. The foraminiferal assemblages represent the late Famennian, middle Tournaisian, and the later part of the middle Visean. The foraminifers described are also known from Famennian–Visean carbonate platforms of the Dinant Region, the Moravian Karst, various regions of Russia, and the Dębnik anticline. These significant microfossils supplement data on foraminifera from the Upper Silesian Block.

Opis:: Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza facjalna utworów terenewu, stanowiących najniższą część sukcesji kambryjskiej wschodniej części bloku górnośląskiego. W silikoklastycznym profilu zdefiniowano systemy depozycyjne dolnego i górnego odbrzeża, zdominowane przez facje iłowcowe z licznymi fodinichnia osadożerców oraz system depozycyjny przybrzeża reprezentowany przez piaskowce. W strefie górnego odbrzeża wyróżniono część dystalną i proksymalną.
The article is presents a facies analysis of Terreneuvian (lowermost Cambrian) deposits in the eastern part of the Upper Silesian Block. The Terreneuvian siliciclastic succession consists of the lower and upper offshore depositional system dominated by claystone facies, and the shoreface system represented by sandstones. Numerous trace fossils, represented mainly by fodinichnia of deposit feeders occur in this part of the offshore system. In the upper offshore zone, distal and proximal parts have been distinguished.
