Opis:
We describe simple to build mechanomyography sensors, with one or two channels, based on electret microphones. We evaluate their application as a source of information about the operator’s hand stiffness, which can be used for changing a robot’s gripper stiffness during teleoperation. We explain a data acquisition procedure for further employment of a machine-learning. Finally, we present the results of three experiments and various machine learning algorithms. support vector classification, random forests, and neural-network architectures (fullyconnected articial neural networks, recurrent, convolutional) were compared in two experiments. In first and second, two probes were used with a single participant, with probes displaced during learning and testing to evaluate the influence of probe placement on classifcation. In the third experiment, a dataset was collected using two probes and seven participants. As a result of the singleprobe tests, we achieved a (binary) classification accuracy of 94 % during the multi-probe tests, large crossparticipant differences in classifcation accuracy were noted, even when normalizing per-participant.

Opis:
Purpose: Lateral (X) and longitudinal (Y) mechanical oscillations of muscle fibers that take place during muscular contraction seem to contain information additionally to the myoelectric activity, which can contribute to the interpretation of some muscle gradation force mechanisms. However, no previous study was found that had investigated the relationship between the muscle force and features associated to the mechanomyographic (MMG) signal obtained by means of a biaxial accelerometer in three different muscles. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the force output at different load levels (20% to 100%) of the maximum voluntary isometric contraction (%MVIC) and the two signals supplied by a biaxial accelerometer and, in addition, the so-called resultant (R) acceleration signal derived from the two signals mentioned previously. Twenty seven male volunteers participated in this study. Methods: The force output related to the right biceps brachii, soleus and gastrocnemius medialis muscles was studied by means of linear regression models fit to log-transformed of the root mean square (RMS) values of the MMG signals in X, Y, and R axes versus each %MVIC. The phase angle of R acceleration (PhaseR) and anthropometric data were also considered. Results: The angular coefficient a and the antilog of y-intercept b from the log-transformed of MMG data values versus force output were able to distinguish partially motor unit strategies during isometric contractions in the three muscles studied. Conclusion: The findings suggest that biaxial accelerometer seems to be an interesting approach in the assessment of muscle contraction properties.

Opis:
The process of biosignal acquisition has a significant impact on the reliability of the control of the multi-functional hand prosthesis. The paper discusses the nature of EMG and MMG signals and noise associated with their registration. The measuring system developed on the basis of these premises, as well as the measurement procedure are described.

Opis:
This paper describes the application of computational fluid dynamics rather than a towing tank test for the prediction of hydrodynamic derivatives using a RANS-based solver. Virtual captive model tests are conducted, including an oblique towing test and circular motion test for a bare model scale KVLCC2 hull, to obtain linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic derivatives in the 3rd-order MMG model. A static drift test is used in a convergence study to verify the numerical accuracy. The computed hydrodynamic forces and derivatives are compared with the available captive model test data, showing good agreement overall. Simulations of standard turning and zigzag manoeuvres are carried out with the computed hydrodynamic derivatives and are compared with available experimental data. The results show an acceptable level of prediction accuracy, indicating that the proposed method is capable of predicting manoeuvring motions.

Opis:
The present study determines the effects of summation of contraction on joint kinematics in human ankle and mechanomyography (MMG) signals during non-isometric contraction. The excursion and angular velocity of dorsiflexion and eversion were measured during several summation profiles during non-isometric contractions. The joint kinematics parameters and MMG responses to 1–8 pulses at a constant interval of 10 ms were recorded to investigate the effects of different numbers of stimuli. In an examination of two-pulse trains with different inter-pulse intervals, the joint kinematics parameters and MMG responses to inter-pulse intervals of 10–100 ms were recorded from the tibialis anterior muscle. The main finding was that facilitating effects of subsequent stimulation were limited to angular velocity of eversion during the contribution of a second stimulus, suggesting that facilitating effects of second stimulus reflect angular velocity but not joint angle excursion. A comparison with MMG signals clarified that MMG signals poorly correlate with changes in the joint kinematics parameters (excursion and angular velocity) when the inter-pulse intervals or numbers of stimuli are increased. These findings will provide useful information for assessing the muscle contractile properties with evoked MMG signals during non-isometric contraction.

Opis:
This paper simulated a simultaneous un-berthing of two container ships. The simulation was intended to determine the number and capacity of tugboats considering an emergency situation in a port. A port provides the number and capacity of tugboats based on the regulation of the Transportation Ministry. In an emergency condition at the terminal and the maximum environmental conditions of wind, wave, and current, the vessel should be un-berthed simultaneously. In this study, two container ships are un-berthed simultaneously in eight scenarios. The available tugboats are simulated using the MMG model to pull the vessels from the jetty turn them in the approaching channel and pass the main channel to achieve the anchorage area. The trajectories of maneuvering using the existing tugs are compared to the normal passage using the appropriate capacity of tugboats. The number and capacity of the tugboat to comply with the safety criteria and avoid collision between the un-berthed ships is proposed.

Opis:
Shipmasters may have to perform unberthing without tugboat assistance when a tsunami warning is issued. Keeping this in mind, we studied emergency unberthing without tug assistance by conducting numerical simulations and full-mission ship maneuvering simulator (SMS) experiments. A panamax class medium-sized bulker and a pure car carrier (PCC) were used as test ships. In the experiments, we established the limitations of basic shiphandling techniques such as stern kick out, backing, and accelerating turn in windy conditions using a mathematical modeling group (MMG)-type mathematical maneuvering model. On the basis of the results, we produced a shiphandling scenario and evaluated it using SMS experiments. We concluded that unberthing without tug assistance in 5 m/s onshore winds is possible. Furthermore, the use of thrusters can greatly reduce the time required for unberthing.
