Opis:
Purpose: An efficient innovation system currently plays a crucial role in creating competitive prevalence, contributing to the economic growth of individual states. The innovation system is influenced by many socioeconomic factors, including in international rankings of innovativeness of economies. These classifications have some limitations. Primarily, they do not examine the efficiency, which means they do not analyze the relationship between the involved inputs and the relevant outputs generated in the innovation system. The study aims to measure the efficiency and productivity of the European state's innovation system based on the data from the international ranking of economies' innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: In this study, the changes in the efficiency and productivity of the innovation system coming from European states were measured using the DEA and Malmquist index methods, based on data from the European Innovation Scoreboard international ranking innovation in economies. The maximizing of economic benefits was assumed in its impact on employment and sales in a given state. The non-radial SBM model, Super SBM, and Malmquist index based on SBM were used for the research. 27 European states were subjected to the analysis in the period from 2012 to 2019. Findings: The research results indicate that the average level of efficiency in the surveyed period fluctuated around 70%. Higher results of efficiency were achieved more frequently by states that joined the EU after 2004. The increase in the productivity of individual states was caused most frequently by an increase in their efficiency (catch-up effect) and less frequently by shifting the efficiency frontier (frontier effect). Practical Implications: The following research hypothesis was decided to be laid down: developing states and those newly admitted to the European Union after 2004 have been gaining relatively more economic benefits from smaller national innovation systems (NIS) resources than developed states and the so-called states of the "old Union." Originality/Value: The added value of the article is, first of all, a comprehensive measurement of the efficiency and productivity of European states NIS in three aspects - efficiency status, efficiency ranking, and productivity changes assessment.

Opis:
The TFPV Malmquist index is one of the tools that does not require knowledge of the price level and qives information on factors affecting productivity changes over time. The DEA-based approach allows decomposing of the TFPC indices into:technical change ( Δ T),technical efficiency change ( ΔTE) and scale efficiency change (Δ SE). A panel data from the companies of a key food processing sector, namely the meat processing, was used in the paper. The sample consisted of above 200 objects. The results indicated which of the decomposed indices ( ΔT, ΔTE, ΔSE) had the greatest impact on productivity changes in the analyzed sector.

Opis:
The aim of this review was to present research work on the development of the Malmquist index (MI) in various aspects based on the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. The MI is one of the three methods of dynamic analysis and also the main one, as it is the most commonly used to measure productivity changes. However, over the years, from being a simple productivity index like the models within the DEA method, it has become a more complex and useful index as it has seen many developments and extensions. Modifications and developments of the MI have taken place in many directions. A review of MI studies from 1990 to 2025 shows that the authors considered various aspects of the MI: Alternative ways of decomposing, different ways of measuring, different types of efficiency, different nature of data and variables and network structure or combined dynamic analysis methods into a single framework. The direction of changes and modifications of the MI can be divided into three groups: Adapting DEA solutions within the MI, presenting new MI solutions without being inspired by the DEA method and combining two methods of dynamic analysis into one framework.

Opis:
This paper presents an evaluation of technical efficiency and time-dependent changes in productivity of Polish professional electric power and heat & electric power stations by using Data Envelopment Analysis non-parametric method. The research covered the enterprises whose total available electric power amounted to about 98% of that of all professional thermal electric power stations in this country. The analysis has concerned the years 2000÷2004. Impact was considered of such factors as: scale of enterprise activity, form of ownership as well as type of carried out activity, on technical efficiency and time-dependent productivity changes. Changes in productivity of the power generation sector were determined by means of Malmquist index.

Opis:
The aim of the study is to estimate the level of education productivity changes in 18 technical universities in 2010-2015 using the Malmquista index. The study employs non-radial Malmquist index SBM and the non-radial Malmquist index SBM with undesirable effects. For comparative purposes, two alternative combinations of variables are used, differing only in the inclusion or exclusion of data on the number of “other employees”. It is found that the inclusion of undesirable effects results in changes in the level of productivity indicators, but in most cases does not change the assessment of educational activities. In addition, it is found that the highest increase in productivity occurred in the “mid-size” universities, while the drop in productivity was observed in “small” schools.

The purpose of the article is to present the use of DEA and Tobit regression for analysing productivity of the construction industry in Europe. Differences and similarities between construction sectors in various European countries are discussed. Labour productivity was calculated with DEA method. Changes in the efficiency score over the period of 2006-2012 were estimated using Malmquist index. Tobit regression was applied to explore the impact of the economic performance of a country on the labour productivity in its construction industry. The results reveal huge differences in the productivity of the construction industry across Europe. Trends in productivity change are also explored. On the basis of regression analysis it was proven that the interpretation of the efficiency scores without taking into account the general economic conditions of a country may lead to false conclusions.

Opis:
Research background: Agriculture plays a vital role in producing food to ensure food security, but it is one of the biggest contributors to environmental pollution. One of the main goals of the new CAP is to set higher ambitions for environmental actions, which brings into the front the concept of agricultural eco-efficiency. The notion of eco-efficiency includes the economic and also ecological dimensions of sustainable agriculture. Purpose of the article: The main goal of this paper is to evaluate the eco-efficiency of agricultural production and its dynamics during the years 2013, 2015, and 2017 of NUTS 2 regions within the Visegrad 4  (V4), i. e. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland. The part of the main goal is to verify the research hypothesis that all the biggest agriculture producers are eco-efficient. Methods: V4 regional eco-efficiency of the agricultural sector is expressed by the Malmquist productivity index and is estimated using the output-oriented Data envelopment analysis (DEA) model, under the assumption of constant return to scale (CRS). The Malmquist index is decomposed to technical eco-efficiency change (EC) and technological change (TC). Based on the eco-efficiency, technological and pure technical eco-efficiency change, V4 regions are classified into three groups: the most progressive regions, the progressive regions, and the regressive regions. Findings & value added: CZ02: Central Bohemia, CZ04: Northwest, HU33: Dél-Alföld, HU31: Észak-Magyarország, HU32: Észak-Alföld, PL21: Malopolskie, PL41: Wielkopolskie, SK01: Bratislava region, and SK02: Western Slovakia have an eco-effective agricultural sector, the remaining V4 regions have eco-ineffective agricultural sector. The research hypothesis that all the biggest agricultural producers are eco-effective is not confirmed. During the analyzed years, 19 V4 regions improve their agricultural eco-efficiency. The main contributor to eco-efficiency improvement is technological progress, which indicates that producers implement innovations that lead to more eco-efficiency agricultural production.
