Opis:: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the level of academic performance in Auxiliary Machinery 2 subject and navigational trip among marine engineering students at maritime university, specifically JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines. It further aimed also to determine the relationship of the two variables. The researchers used the quantitative research method and employed the descriptive statistics for the analysis of data among the randomly selected participants of the present study. The statistical tools were frequency, mean, and Pearson’s r. To come up with the data needed for this study, the questionnaire – checklist on “Navigational trip” was developed by the researchers. Results revealed that as an entire group, the level of academic performance was “excellent” and the navigational trip was “moderately satisfactory” among marine engineering students. The correlation between navigational trip and auxiliary machinery 2 subject was “positive and significantly correlated.”

Opis:: The article deals with the subject matter related to the development of underwater works technologies. Nearly 15 years ago one of the authors of this study published a material in the monthly magazine of "Podwodny Świat" (The Underwater World) entitled "The Future of Underwater Technologies – the diver or the robot?" where he noted that the time of great changes in technologies aimed at researching the depths and conducting works under water has arrived. This new era mainly consists in the fact that on an increasing number of occasions the diver is replaced by an underwater robot. The presented material constitutes an attempt to provide an answer to the question whether the then posed thesis is still valid. In the article the authors discuss issues concerned with the development of techniques and technologies applied in the conquest of depths that leads them to the conclusion that the previously observed tendency of a double-tracked development of underwater technologies is gaining in strength, which causes that the works and exploration of bodies of water at great depths will be possible only with the use of unmanned techniques.
Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce rozwoju technologii prac podwodnych. Niemal 15 lat temu, jeden z autorów niniejszego opracowania opublikował materiał w miesięczniku „Podwodny Świat” pt. „Przyszłość technologii podwodnych – nurek czy robot?”, w którym wskazał, że nastał czas dużych zmian w technologiach służących badaniom głębin i pracy pod wodą. Polegające przede wszystkim na tym, że coraz częściej nurka zastępuje robot podwodny. Niniejszy materiał jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy ówczesna prognoza jest nadal aktualna. W artykule, autorzy omawiają zagadnienia rozwoju technik i technologii służących podbojowi głębin, dochodząc do stwierdzenia, że zaobserwowana wcześniej tendencja dwutorowego rozwoju technologii podwodnych się wzmacnia, co powoduje, że praca i podbój głębin na dużych głębokościach będzie możliwa tylko z wykorzystaniem technik bezzałogowych.

W części pierwszej zaprezentowano krótki rys historyczny powstania Zakładu oraz podstawowe elementy infrastruktury badawczej tej jednostki naukowo-dydaktycznej. Zakład od ponad 30 - stu lat zajmuje się szerokim spektrum badań z zakresu technologii prac podwodnych i obecnie jest to jedyna tego typu jednostka badawcza w kraju, która tak kompleksowo rozwiązuje problematykę w tych obszarach.
The article outlines the activity of the Department of Underwater Works Technology of the Polish Naval Academy of Gdynia. This is the second part of the material aimed at presenting research and educational activity of this organisational unit. The first part provided a brief historical background related to the foundation of the department, as well as the main elements of its research infrastructure. For over 30 years the department has been engaged in a broad spectrum research related to underwater works technologies and to date it is the only research unit of this type which offers complex solutions to the related issues.

Opis:: W niniejszym artykule dokonano próby zidentyfikowania aktualnych trendów rozwojowych bezzałogowych technologii morskich takich jak bezzałogowe pojazdy nawodne i podwodne. Analizy wykonano na podstawie dostępnych źródeł literaturowych, baz danych o projektach badawczych i źródeł internetowych. W materiale rozgraniczono badania terytorialnie ze względu na miejsce ich realizacji wyodrębniając obszar Unii Europejskiej, Stanów Zjednoczonych AP i Polski. W artykule na podstawie przeglądu celów i zakładanych efektów końcowych projektów wyodrębniono tendencje rozwojowe dla omawianej techniki morskiej. Ciekawym efektem przeglądu jest obserwacja, że polskie prace B+R z tego obszaru plasują się w głównych zidentyfikowanych tendencjach rozwojowych. Niestety ich efekty nie są porównywalne ze względu na znikomą wysokość krajowych funduszy na działalność B+R w porównaniu z innymi państwami.
The article constitutes an attempt to identify current tendencies regarding the development of unmanned marine technologies such as unmanned surface and underwater vehicles. The analyses were performed on the basis of available literature, databases on research projects and internet sources. The material has been divided with regard to the location the research was conducted, the following groups being identified: the European Union, the United States of America and Poland. On the basis of the review of objectives and final effects of projects, tendencies in the development of the discussed marine technology have been identified. An interesting result of the review consists in an observation that Polish R&D works in this area are placed within the main identified developmental trends. Unfortunately, their effects are incomparable due to the minuteness of national funds allocated to R&D as opposed to other countries.

Opis:: This paper presents a new approach to the existing training of marine control engineering professionals using artificial intelligence. We use optimisation strategies, neural networks and game theory to support optimal, safe ship control by applying the latest scientific achievements to the current process of educating students as future marine officers. Recent advancements in shipbuilding, equipment for robotised ships, the high quality of shipboard game plans, the cost of overhauling, dependability, the fixing of the shipboard equipment and the requesting of the safe shipping and environmental protection, requires constant information on recent equipment and programming for computational intelligence by marine officers. We carry out an analysis to determine which methods of artificial intelligence can allow us to eliminate human subjectivity and uncertainty from real navigational situations involving manoeuvring decisions made by marine officers. Trainees learn by using computer simulation methods to calculate the optimal safe traverse of the ship in the event of a possible collision with other ships, which are mapped using neural networks that take into consideration the subjectivity of the navigator. The game-optimal safe trajectory for the ship also considers the uncertainty in the navigational situation, which is measured in terms of the risk of collision. The use of artificial intelligence methods in the final stage of training on ship automation can improve the practical education of marine officers and allow for safer and more effective ship operation.

Opis:: W materiale zaproponowano uogólniony model rozwoju techniki głębiowej, rozumianej jako środki techniczne umożliwiające penetrację i eksplorację głębin oceanów. Model opracowano na podstawie wcześniej zaproponowanego modelu bifurkacyjnego. Podstawę i punkt wyjścia do opracowania modelu stanowiła analiza piśmiennictwa. Proponowany model wskazuje, że niezależnie od tego jakie rozwiązanie techniczne umożliwiające penetrację głębin zostało opracowane w czasie minionym, będzie należało do jednego z trzech zdefiniowanych nurtów rozwojowych tej techniki. Ponieważ proponowany model ma charakter potokowy i jest bardziej ogólny od modelu bifurkacyjnego zaproponowano jego nazwę jako uogólniony amnistyczny model rozwojowy techniki głębinowej.
The material proposes a generalised model for the development of underwater technology, understood as a technical means of penetrating and exploring the depths of the oceans. The model was developed on the basis of the previously proposed bifurcation model. The basis and starting point for the development of the model was the analysis of literature. The proposed model indicates that regardless of which technical solution for underwater penetration was developed in the past, it will belong to one of the three defined developmental ‘streams’ of this technique. Since the proposed model has the characteristic of a flowing stream and is more general than the bifurcation model, its name has been proposed as a generalised amnistic developmental model of the underwater technique.

Opis:: This article presents basic principles of using simulation research in marine traffic engineering and describes a simulation method of waterway design. The author indicates the most common errors made when the procedures of simulation research are not followed, despite advanced ship handling simulators used, which makes it impossible to satisfy the criterion of conformity between the examined system and its model. Practical use of results thus obtained leads to the breach of safety criteria or overdimensioning of waterway system. The presented simulation method of waterway design has been developed by this author. Applying the procedures of the method ensures that the mentioned conformity criterion is fulfilled.

Opis:: The material presents an analysis of the impact that the parameters of air hyperbaric exposure have on the time remaining to the beginning of the first ventilation, as calculated with two mathematical models. The research has been conducted in the form of simulations that take into account standard parameters of exposure. Differences between the analysed models have been indicated, and the influence of the changes of particular input values in the analysed models on the output values has been defined.
W artykule przedstawiono analizę wpływu parametrów powietrznej ekspozycji hiperbarycznej na czas do rozpoczęcia pierwszej wentylacji liczony za pomocą dwóch modeli matematycznych. Badania przeprowadzono jako symulacje uwzględniające standardowe parametry ekspozycji. Wskazano różnice pomiędzy analizowanymi modelami i zdefiniowano, jaki jest wpływ zmian poszczególnych wielkości wejściowych analizowanych modeli na wartości wielkości wyjściowej.

Takie podejście ma zapewnić najbardziej adekwatne zaangażowanie sił i środków w jego realizację. Ponieważ na wybór strategii ma wpływy wiele czynników od technicznych do środowiskowych, w części pierwszej omówiono zagadnienia związane z miejscem prowadzenia poszukiwań oraz warunkami ich realizacji.
This is the first publication from a series of articles devoted to the issues of underwater exploration carried out for litigation purposes. The present paper suggests that an exploration strategy should be defined as: all actions that aim at creating and implementing a plan of exploration, conducted with the application of a defined exploration methodology – here understood to refer to the technical way the task is completed. Such an approach is taken in order to ensure the most adequate involvement of means and resources for the plan’s implementation. Since the choice of strategy affects many aspects that range from the technical to the environmental, this first part focuses on the location of the exploration and the anticipated conditions.

Opis:: The digitalisation in the ship design sector is currently applied to the design process itself and is well defined, partially standardised and practically implemented by both independent design companies and the design departments of shipyards. The situation is similar in other sectors of engineering. However, the requirements for the digitalisation of other processes in design and engineering companies have not previously been studied, and the limited financial resources of ship design companies mean that there is a need for research on the digitalisation needs of multidisciplinary ship design companies. The implementation of building information modelling (BIM) solutions is costly for design companies and generates benefits mainly for shipyards and shipowners. The lack of benefits for design companies leads to the hesitation of managers whenever digitalisation is considered; the scope and scale of the digitalisation, as well as the selected software and BIM level, are defined by the shipyard requirements. The participation and support of management in the digitalisation process is one of the key success factors; the expected benefits caused by digitalisation for the organisation will increase the motivation of managers to invest limited resources in digitalisation. There are no data that indicate the processes with a high potential for digitalisation and the scale of expected improvements in ship design companies; therefore, research in this area was performed with a group of project managers from design and engineering companies. The research focused on collecting the opinions and experiences of the managers related to the manual management of resources and comparing the poll results with the conclusions from the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system data analyses. The paper analyses if the digital automation of the resource management process can lead to the substantial improvement of the operations of multi-project, multidisciplinary engineering ship design companies.
