Opis:
Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (Metropolis GZM) is the first metropolitan association operating in Poland according to the Act. It includes 41 municipalities of various sizes, administrative statuses and affiliations to cultural regions. This situation poses a significant challenge for integrating municipalities and residents of the Metropolis GZM. The article presents an analysis of selected social dimensions of intra-metropolitan diversity, taking into account the size structure of the municipality and the cultural heterogeneity of the Metropolis GZM. The empirical point of reference was a secondary analysis of data from original and co-authored research conducted in the metropolitan area in the last ten years and publicly available data from public sources. Their analysis revealed, on the one hand, the durability of symbolic boundaries (including phantom ones), the emerging new divisions (between new and rooted inhabitants of peripheral metropolitan municipalities), and, on the other hand, the deepening functional integration of the municipalities and inhabitants belonging to Metropolis GZM.

Metropolis logistics is a new research issue that begins to play an important role in shaping inter-organizational relationships. The concept of logistics in metropolitan context is a contemporary term used primarily to identify issues that will improve the transformation of products and information in building inter-organizational efficiency. On the one hand, the issues of metropolitan logistics are based on shaping the flow of products and information in building inter-organizational efficiency. On the other hand, the formation of inter-organizational bonds has a complex and multidimensional structure that creates a specific network of interactions, in which metropolitan logistics determines their development in relation to the environment. The aim of the article is to identify the conditions that build up inter-organizational relations within the Silesian-Zagłębie (Ś-Z) metropolitan area. The article presents selected results of exploratory research carried out among logistic entities operating in the Silesian-Zagłębie metropolitan area. The authors attempted to answer the question: what are the challenges ahead of metropolitan logistics in shaping interorganizational relationships?

The notion of a network is one of the key terms used to describe the contemporary world. The role of cooperation networks is also stressed in the context of innovation and its spatial aspects. In this particular case, most attention is given to metropolises as major networks of flows not only of people, capital or goods, but also of information and knowledge. The paper discusses selected spatial aspects of collaborative networks in Polish science. The discussion of examples is preceded by a theoretical introduction intended to outline various aspects of innovation networks at national and regional levels, with particular emphasis on the role of metropolises in collaborative networks.

W metropolizacji podstawową rolę odgrywają sieci przepływów kapitału, ludzi, pracy, informacji i rynków, prowadząc do transformacji materialnych podstaw życia społecznego, czasu i przestrzeni. Jednym z polskich „laboratoriów” tego procesu jest Trójmiasto (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot), obszar odrębnych tradycji historycznych odczytywanych w nowej perspektywie, miejsce nagromadzenia problemów typowych dla miast aspirujących do rangi metropolitalnej. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy proces metropolizacyjnej integracji jest wewnętrznie równoważony zarówno subiektywnymi oczekiwaniami mieszkańców, jak i obiektywnymi procesami urbanizacyjnymi. Analiza prowadzi do konkluzji, że w przestrzeni społecznej, kulturowej i materialnej ścierają się dwie tendencje: z jednej strony dążenie do sprostania standardom metropolii, a z drugiej − poszukiwanie znaczeń „pierwszych”, „małej ojczyzny”.
The nets of flows of capital, persons, labour and markets play the key role in metropolitization, leading to transformation of the basis of social life, time and space. One of Polish “laboratories” of this process is Trójmiasto (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot), the area where separate historical traditions are re-read in new context, a place where all problems typical of wannabe-metropolitan cities accumulate. The article’s aim is to answer the question whether the metropolization integration is internally balanced with both subjective expectations of the citizens and the objective urbanistic processes. The analysis leads to a conclusion that in the social, cultural and material space two tendencies clash: one is to live up to metropolitan standards and the other, to look for “primordial” meanings and “little homelands”.

Artykuł przeglądowy powstał na podstawie literatury przedmiotu, poświęcony został zagadnieniu ofiar śmiertelnych wśród katolickiego duchowieństwa w okresie II wojny światowej oraz powojennym, w związku ze zmianą granic politycznych i represjami okupacyjnych władz radzieckich. Autor omawia liczebność kadr duchownych na objętym tematyką obszarze oraz charakteryzuje przyjęty podział stref okupacyjnych w tytułowym okresie: polskie metropolie wschodnie, wileńską oraz lwowską, których obszar został w większości wcielony do nowych republik radzieckich (Litewskiej, Białoruskiej i Ukraińskiej SRR); obszar Polski centralnej (metropolie warszawską i krakowską); obszar nowych polskich ziem zachodnich i północnych, wcielonych w roku 1945 do państwa polskiego (niemiecką metropolię wrocławską wraz z fragmentami archidiecezji praskiej i ołomunieckiej na Śląsku oraz diecezję gdańską). W artykule przedstawiono krótko dane biograficzne duchownych, którzy ponieśli śmierć w wyniku bezpośrednich działań władz okupacyjnych (żołnierzy Armii Czerwonej i funkcjonariuszy radzieckiego aparatu bezpieczeństwa) oraz omówiono na tle porównawczym statystyki tych strat. W aneksie zawarto zestawienia statystyczne w tabelach, mapy poglądowe granic diecezji oraz strat w podziale na metropolie kościelne.
This review article, based on literature on the subject, describes fatal victims among the Catholic clergy during World War II and the post-war period in relation to the change of political borders and repercussions of the Soviet occupation authorities. The author presents a numerical status of the Catholic clergy personnel on the territory under discussion as well as characterizes adopted division into occupation zones in the period of 1944-1955: Polish eastern metropolises, Vilnius and Lviv, the area of which was vastly incorporated into the new Soviet republics (Lithuanian, Byelorussian and Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republics); the region of central Poland (metropolises of Cracow and Warsaw); and the new Polish western and northern territories incorporated into the Polish state in 1945 (German metropolis of Wrocław with the parts of the Prague and Olomouc archdiocese in Silesia as well as the Gdańsk diocese). The article juxtaposes briefly the biographies of the clergymen who died because of direct activities of the occupation powers (i.e. the Red Army soldiers or the officers of the Soviet security services) as well as comparatively discusses the statistics of these deaths. The statistics are presented in tables in the annex. The overview maps show diocesan boundaries and the deaths categorised by church metropolis.

Opis:
The phenomenon of incompatibility of the basic structure of territorial administration to dynamically progressing urbanisation is one of the problems of contemporary states. The public (and academic) discussion on how the state should support the development of metropolitan areas is quite vivid in Poland. However, Polish politics noticed the problem of territorial fragmentation in urbanised areas quite late compared to other European countries. Nevertheless in recent years successive Polish governments have taken up the issue. This has resulted in strategic documents and normative acts which task was to introduce new legal, financial and planning instruments for the development of cities and their functional areas, including metropolitan areas.
Неприспособление основной структуры территориальной администрации к динамически развиваемой урбанизации является одним из основных вопросов современных государств. Публичный дискурс (включая научный) по вопросом, как государство должно поддерживать развитие метрополитальных территорий, в Польше достаточно оживлённый. Польская политика заметила вопрос территориальной фрагментизации на сурбанизованных площадях достаточно поздно по сравнению с другими европейскими странами. В последнее время этот вопрос ставили очередные польские правительства. Ответом на него являются стратегические документы и правовые законы, на основании которых вводились новые правовые, финансовые и политические инструменты в направлении развития городов и их функциональных территорий, в т.ч. метрополитальных территорий.

Presented results are part of a broader study on the metropolitan region as the space of recreational penetration. It employed diagnostic survey and the tool used was the questionnaire prepared by the authors. The purpose of the following paper is to characterize selected aspects of physical recreation only of inhabitants with disabilities of the Poznań metropolis. It presents below only the results concerning the basic information of physical recreation of this social group, without the analysis of the conditionality of the participations in this kind of leisure time activities. The study results indicate that the participation of people with disabilities in physical recreation near and away from their place of residence is low. Respondents prefer weekend activity near their place of residence and the forms of recreation are not very diverse. They usually use small recreation and sports facilities or they use outdoor infrastructure. Enhanced involvement of people with disabilities in physical recreation together with personalized, adjusted to a given dysfunction offer is required.

The study was centred on the comparative analysis of plantain and banana marketing in the Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 126 plantain and banana marketers whom were selected using a simple random sampling technique from seven purposively-selected markets in the study area. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, a gross margin model, and the t-test. The findings showed that plantain and banana marketers were 100% female, that is only females were identified in the trade; 51.6% and 56.3% of these plantain and banana marketers had mean ages of 40.8 years and 59.5 years respectively; in addition, the majority of the marketers were married (73.0% and 65.1% respectively). Furthermore, they earned a monthly profit of ₦55,370.42 and ₦47,654.74 respectively, which indicates that both businesses are profitable. Further, the plantain and banana trade shared similar marketing channels, the number of which was four, with the most dominant channel being the one composed of the producer, rural assembler, wholesaler, retailer, and the consumer. The t-test analysis demonstrated that the difference in profit by plantain and banana marketers was statistically significant at the p-value of < 0.05. Unemployed youths in Rivers State should be trained by well-meaning organisations so that they can take up the marketing of plantains/bananas as a means of earning a living due to their profitability.
