Porusza zagadnienia związane z planem zbawienia i ukazuje wizję mormońskiej roli Chrystusa w zbawieniu ludzkości. W części trzeciej znajduje się analiza nauki Kościoła odnoszącej się do etyki.
The subject of this thesis is the doctrine and ethics of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is based primarily on the following source-texts: The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price and The Doctrine and Covenants. The paper has been divided into three parts. In the first one the author presents the origins of the Church since its inception during The Second Great Awakening. The second part focuses on contemporary doctrine and presents the objects of the Mormons' faith. It also raises issues related to the plan of salvation and shows how the role of Christ in the salvation of mankind is seen by the Mormons. The third part contains an analysis of the Church's teachings relating to ethics.

Opis:: Mormonism is a relatively new religion that has achieved remarkable success on a global scale. According to numerous researchers, there is a potential for it to become a world religion in the future. In this paper, I will focus on the specific characteristics of Mormonism, particularly The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, that have contributed to its global success. This success can be measured by the rapid and steady growth of its followers. I argue that this success is a result of the rare ability of Mormonism to maintain a dynamic balance between assimilation and the preservation of one’s cultural and religious identity. The Mormon religious doctrines, practices, and the way the church operates, both in its country of origin and globally, allow it to quickly adapt to a changing world while also maintaining a moderate tension towards the socio-cultural environment. Some examples of these characteristics include continuous revelation, unique beliefs, the coexistence of explicit and implicit beliefs and practices, a specific language used for missionary activities, and efficient utilization of globalization processes. These factors together enable Mormons to successfully balance between assimilation and preservation.

Opis:: Drawing empirically on the examples of the Church of Latter-Day Saints’ (Mormon) participation in anti-ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) ratification campaign and its latest attempts to influence other political issues of moral consequences (such as same-sex marriage) in the United States, the paper attempts to analyse the dynamics of a contemporary religiously motivated political movement.Despite being, on any of these issues, a part of a wider coalition of political actors, the Mormon church displayed a specifically religious motivation, justification and modus operandi. Owing to strong religious legitimacy of their power – based on the doctrine of continuous revelation and enhanced by a sort of “personality cult” of the Church President-Prophet developing in late 20th century – the leadership of the church has been capable of effective grassroots mobilization, achieved through a disciplined universal priesthood structure.While, from the theoretical point of view, this Mormon political movement is of a traditional, “old” variation (ideological and social cohesion of members, well-defined, stable membership, hierarchical leadership etc.) it has nevertheless been relatively successful in modern political environment. The Mormon engagement, at least in the anti-ERA campaign, had made a difference certainly in Utah, and probably elsewhere as well.

Proponowany tekst może być przyczynkiem do dalszych badań nad rolą osoby Jezusa Chrystusa nie tyle w oficjalnej wykładni tej nowej, parachrześcijańskiej religii, ile w codziennym życiu adeptów nowego Kościoła, zwłaszcza w obszarze modlitwy, liturgii i relacji wewnątrzgrupowych.
The author analyses the original christological concept propounded by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), and compares it with the Christian theology. It turns out that the official Mormon teaching on Christ’s nature, origins, mission, resurrection and Parousia (thought of as inspired) is incompatible with the christology of the traditional Christian denominations. Despite J. Smith’s and his successors’ radical departure from the pronouncements of Christian denominations, the proposed text may encourage further research into the person of Jesus Christ and his role in – perhaps, not so much the official teaching of this new, para-christian religion – but in the everyday life of Mormons, especially in their prayers, liturgy and communal relationships.

The book is monography prepared by the members of the section of sociology of religion affiliated with Polish Sociological Association, who participated in the conference taken place in Kraków, between 17 and 19 November of 2016 . The "Problems of contemporary times" relate to the large spectrum of social phenomena, in which religion is important. The book consists of 18 chapters, devoted to analysis of religious situation in Poland and ordered in four thematic parts. The first part is devoted to relations between religion and everyday life, the part II relate to linkage between religion and media. The third part concern spirituality, which is recently frequent subject of interest among representatives of the social science. The last part is devoted to analysis of changes of institutional religion.

Opis:: Die Kirche Jesu Christi der Heiligen der Letzten Tage (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) ist zweifelsohne eine der sich gegenwärtig dynamisch entwickelnden religiösen Organisationen. Das Wissen um die dogmatische und organisatorische Unterschiedlichkeit der Gemeinschaften, die der am 6.04.1830 von Joseph Smith Jr. gegründeten Organisation emporgeschossen sind, scheint jedoch ungenügend zu sein. Solche Fragestellungen wie die Kontinuität der Offenbarung, Polygamie, Rassenüberzeugungen oder das Verhältnis zur Homosexualität bestimmen die Dynamik dieser Strömung in ihrer Entwicklung und ihrer gegenwärtigen Form. Der Artikel bildet einen Versuch, die historischen Aufteilungen im Schoss des Mormonentums unter Berücksichtigung ihrer Einflüsse auf den heutigen Stand dieser religiösen Strömung zu rekonstruieren.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is surely one of the most thriving religious organisations in the contemporary world. There seems to be little awareness, however, of how different in terms of dogma and structures are the communities that sprang up from the organisation founded by Joseph Smith Jr on April 6th in 1830. Issues such as the continuity of revelation, polygamy, racial views and attitude to homosexuality have defined the dynamics of the movement’s present development and shape. The article is an attempt at reconstructing the historical divisions within Mormonism and considers their impact on the condition of this religious movement nowadays.
Kościół Jezusa Chrystusa Świętych w Dniach Ostatnich (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) jest niewątpliwie jedną z prężniej działających organizacji religijnych w dzisiejszym świecie. Niedostateczna wydaje się jednak świadomość zróżnicowania dogmatycznego i organizacyjnego wspólnot, które wyrosły na podglebiu organizacji powołanej 6 kwietnia 1830 r. przez Josepha Smitha Jr. Takie zagadnienia jak ciągłość objawienia, poligamia, poglądy rasowe czy stosunek do homoseksualizmu wyznaczają dynamikę tego nurtu w jego rozwoju i obecnym kształcie. Artykuł stanowi próbę rekonstrukcji historycznych podziałów w łonie mormonizmu z uwzględnieniem ich wpływu na stan obecny tego nurtu religijnego.

Opis:: Poniższa praca ma na celu zbadanie podstawowych elementów doktryny Kościoła Jezusa Chrystusa Świętych w Dniach Ostatnich w porównaniu do nauk głównych kościołów chrześcijańskich i znalezienie odpowiedzi na pytanie badawcze, w jakim stopniu i zakresie mormoni zmodyfikowali obowiązujące w chrześcijaństwie dogmaty oraz dodali do nich własne koncepcje. Pytanie to postawiono mając na uwadze fakt, że główne kościoły chrześcijańskie uznają mormonizm za odrębną religię.Opracowania dokonano przede wszystkim na podstawie kanonicznych dla tego Kościoła pism: Księgi Mormona, Nauk i Przymierzy oraz Perły Wielkiej Wartości. W pracy przedstawiono tło powstania Kościoła Jezusa Chrystusa Świętych w Dniach Ostatnich oraz podstawowe informacje dotyczące jego członków, a następnie omówiono teologię, antropologię, soteriologię, eschatologię oraz kosmologię w porównaniu do doktryny głównych nurtów chrześcijaństwa. Dzięki temu możliwe było uzyskanie odpowiedzi na zadane powyżej pytanie i wykazanie różnic pomiędzy naukami mormonów a fundamentami doktryny chrześcijańskiej.
The aim of this study is to examine main elements of the doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in comparison to the teaching of main Christian churches and to answer the research question, how much Mormons modified the Christian dogmas and added their own conceptions. The above question was asked because of the fact, that main Christian churches do not recognize Mormons as a Christian movement, but as a separate religion.The paper is mainly based on Mormons sacred books: The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.The paper shows the background of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and basic information about the members of the Church. Then the study presents the theology, anthropology, soteriology, eschatology and cosmology and compares them to the doctrine of main Christian movements. Thus it was possible to answer the above research question and to distinguish differences between the Mormons teaching and the fundamentals of Christian doctrine.

Mimo to – a może dzięki temu – Amerykanie pozostali społeczeństwem wyjątkowo religijnym, w którym kwitły nowe wyznania. Na fali Wielkich Przebudzeń na przełomie XVIII i XIX wieku powstało wiele nowych ruchów religijnych, w tym mormonizm. Kościół Jezusa Chrystusa Świętych w Dniach Ostatnich, bo taka jest pełna nazwa Kościoła mormonów, zapisał się na kartach historii amerykańskiej w sposób szczególny, a niektórzy badacze nazywają go „Ameryką w miniaturze”. Dzięki wolnościom sumienia i wyznania zagwarantowanym przez I Poprawkę do Konstytucji Stanów Zjednoczonych wszystkie wyznania mogą swobodnie praktykować swoją religię. Jedną z praktyk mormońskich jest program misjonarski, w którym biorą głównie młode dziewczęta i chłopcy w Kościele, choć w pomoc pełnoetatowym prozelitom zaangażowani są wszyscy członkowie Kościoła. Posługa misjonarska wymaga wielu poświęceń natury osobistej, aby jak najlepiej służyć Bogu głosząc ewangelię Jezusa Chrystusa i zapraszając wiernych do przyjęcia chrztu w Kościele Świętych w Dniach Ostatnich w celu osiągnięcia zbawienia i życia wiecznego. Niniejsza praca ma na celu analizę wybranych elementów życia mormońskich misjonarzy na podstawie oficjalnych dokumentów Kościoła oraz niezależnych źródeł.
United States of America was the first nation to implement institutional separation of church and state. Despite of that – or perphaps because of it – Americans remained an exceptionally religious society where new faiths could flourish. During the Great Awakenings at the turn of 18th and 19th centuries many new religious movements emerged, including Mormonism. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for this is the full name of the Mormon Church, left its impact on American history and some scholars call it ‘America in miniature’. Freedom of conscience and religious liberty guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ensured that all faiths can freely exercise their beliefs. One of the Mormon practices is a missionary program which mostly young women and men participate in, even though all members of the Church are involved in helping the proselytizers. Missionary service requires a lot of personal sacrifice in order to best serve God by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and inviting the faithful to be baptized in the LDS Church to receive salvation and eternal life. This paper analyzes various aspects of the Mormon missionary life based on official Church publications as well as independent sources.
