Opis:
Was the Boer Republic of Natalia a state? The article discusses the question of whether the Natalia Republic was a state. Through the presentation of its history, its institutions and mechanisms of functioning, the author tries to present the character of this polity. He shows that in this case, one may observe the coexistence of institutions typical of the modern state and pre-state polities. This leads him to the conclusion that the Republic of Natalia was an unfinished project, and idea of a state, but not a state in the true sense of the word.

Opis:
The unfavorable demographic situation and the falling number of births resulted in an increased interest among Polish politicians in introducing tools to social policy that would reverse this negative trend. Implemented to social policy by Prawo i Sprawiedliwość Party in 2016, the “Family 500+” benefit has become such a tool. According to the government’s intention, this financial aid for families with children aims to reverse the decline in the number of births observed for many years and reduce the scale of poverty among families with the most complex financial situation. After several years of the “Family 500+” Program in force, it is difficult to clearly define whether the goals were achieved and whether the expenses for financing the program were adequate to the results. The aim of the article is an attempt at the assessment of the functioning of the Family 500+ Programme. Both the statutory assumptions of the programme, the costs of its functioning, and its results so far were analyzed. The central part of the analysis covered the period 2016–2019.

The objective of this chapter is to review progress made in the studies of dispersal in the genus Clethrionomys, and particularly in C. glareolus. This is presented in a comparative context to Microtus voles. From reviewed data the following is evident: (1) Habitats of Clethrionomys voles range from relatively homogeneous in the north-eastern landscapes dominated by forest to mosaic ones in the central and western Europe. (2) Dispersal was studied on different spatial scales; for each spatial scale specific techniques were used. New methods employing mtDNA markers proved especially useful for studies in very small and large spatial scales. (3) Natal dispersal, studied usually in small enclosed population, was found to be malebiased as in Microtus voles; a possible effect of population confinement on the obtained results is discussed. (4) Breeding dispersal of adult voles, after recent reexamination of evidence, seems to be less common and less adaptive than previously reported. (5) As future directions of vole dispersal studies spatial-temporal dynamics and landscape ecology are indicated.

Opis:
In the article contemporary natal narrative is studied from the perspective of the influence of mythological and story types of texts on it. Natal narrative being similar to mythological text confirms some norms of world outlook and behavior. Natal narrative, like many texts of the story type, is about extraordinary events in a woman’s life or about an exceptional situation, which has happened to her acquaintances. The heroine of the natal narrative crosses a definite semantic border, reasserting the status of her exceptional nature.
