Opis:
The ability of domestic enterprises to invent, introduce and diffuse innovations has been a driving force of the development of modern economies. This paper focuses on the institutional determinants of innovativeness of European Union economies. Institutions are defined as a universal, relatively persistent set of social norms rooted in society, shaping both human behaviour and all relations in the economy. The institutional factors seem to be especially significant nowadays, in an era dominated by the open innovation model. The aim of the study discussed in the article is to measure the quality of institutions and the level of innovativeness of EU economies (26 EU economies, excluding Greece due to data deficiency) and to identify the relationship between these directly unobservable categories. The research applies the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method. On the basis of data for the years 2010 and 2020 extracted from Eurostat, Freedom House, the Fraser Institute, the Heritage Foundation and the Legatum Institute, a panel PLS-SEM model was constructed and an empirical analysis was performed. The latter demonstrates that the correlation between the quality of institutions and the level of innovativeness of EU economies was positive, strong and statistically significant both in 2010 and in 2020. Taking into account the theoretical aspects and the results of research of other scientists, this relationship might be considered not only as correlational, but also as causal.

Purpose. This study explores the impact of instructional leadership, teacher self-efficacy, professional commitment and school climate on job satisfaction and performance among Indonesian secondary teachers. The research aims to identify the main factors driving teacher satisfaction and productivity within Indonesia’s educational context, providing insights for school leaders and policymakers to enhance institutional support, cultivate positive environments and strengthen teacher capacity. The study highlights the key determinants of teacher performance in Indonesian secondary schools. Design/methodology/approach. We used G* Power to determine the sampling; data were collected from 1,067 Indonesian secondary teachers through an online survey. This study employed partial least squares structural equation modeling to evaluate 13 hypotheses, facilitating the model’s complexity and predictive focus. The measurement and structural models were assessed using confirmatory composite analysis. Effect size (f2), coefficient of determination (R2) and predictive relevance (Q2) supported the evaluation of the structural model. Findings. The findings revealed that teacher self-efficacy significantly enhanced commitment and the school climate, with the most substantial relationships observed in this study. A favorable school climate, in turn, was closely linked to higher job satisfaction and, to a lesser extent, improved teacher performance. These findings underscore the critical role of teacher self-efficacy in fostering a supportive educational environment and boosting teacher morale and effectiveness. Enhancing teachers’ self-efficacy could be a strategic approach to improving the overall school climate and teacher performance in Indonesian secondary education. Originality/value. The current study underscores the necessity of cultivating leadership and teacher development cultures to enhance educational outcomes. The comprehensive statistical analysis in Indonesian secondary education has elucidated the interactions among the proposed variables, assisting policymakers and educators in improving teacher effectiveness and student achievement.

The last decade has seen a distinct increase in the frequency of the appearance of virtual teams within contemporary organizations. As knowledge sharing within the virtual team leads to better team performance, a deeper understanding of enabling organizational capabilities is highly relevant to both researchers and managers. Therefore, in this paper we focus on the concept of "internal change agent support". More specifically, we use a qualitative research design to study the role of internal agent support within the relationship between knowledge sharing and virtual team performance. A theoretical model was built and verified by means of structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The authors found that internal change agent support has a moderating effect on relationship between knowledge sharing and the virtual team performance and the knowledge sharing within the virtual team influences positively virtual team performance. These results add to the emerging academic discussion on continuous change management within dispersed teams. Our findings are also relevant to managerial practice as they suggest how to facilitate the process of knowledge sharing in a team, thus improving its efficiency.

Opis:
The increasing use of digital resources has changed the way of teaching, where platforms such as YouTube offer large repositories of educational videos. There are many theoretical studies that analyse the digital competences of teachers, but to a lesser extent on the behaviours and use that the teacher makes of this multimedia platform. Thus, the purpose of this study is the development of an instrument in which it is analysed how the behavioural intention of teachers on YouTube impacts their digital competence to search and select information, share information, and interact with other users of the platform, and create educational material. To achieve this, following the partial least squares (PLS) method of structural equation models, a higher-order causal model was proposed based on an adaptation and extension of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The study was carried out with a sample of 2157 teachers from all over Spain. The main result was that behavioural intention explained 22.70% of the true variance of teachers' digital competence. In addition, it has been possible to verify the reliability, convergent and discriminant validity of the established causal relationships, determining a model with acceptable goodness-of-fit. These findings show that it is a valid and reliable instrument to measure teachers' digital competences on YouTube, behavioural intention, and the system of relationships between factors.

Opis:
PURPOSE: The paper focuses on assessing the direct effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention and the indirect effect of the need for independence on the relationship between the constructs. Despite increased efforts towards steering the interest of young graduates towards entrepreneurial venture, the response rate has been rather unimpressive and discouraging, thus demanding the need to account for what factors could drive intention towards venture ownership among graduates in Nigeria. METHODOLOGY: A quantitative approach was adopted and a data set from 235 graduates was used for the study. The data was analyzed using the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). FINDINGS: It was found that self-efficacy does not significantly affect intention. It was also found that the need for independence affects entrepreneurial intention. The study found that the need for independence fully mediates the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: This paper provides new insight into the behavioral reasoning theory, through its application in explaining the cognitive role of the need for independence in decision-making, using samples from a developing economy. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: The study advances a new perspective on the underlining factors that account for an entrepreneur’s intent to start a business venture, most especially among young graduates in Nigeria, through the lens of the behavioral reasoning theory. We further support the application of the theory in entrepreneurship literature, given the paucity of studies that have adopted the theory despite its relevance.

Purpose – Virtual goods consumption has risen dramatically in recent years. Recognizing the benefits of virtual goods in generating revenue for online game companies, marketers strive to understand the motives behind virtual goods purchases. We investigated the direct and indirect effects of functional, emotional, and social values through player satisfaction on purchase intention toward virtual goods among online players. Design/methodology/approach – In total, we surveyed 332 online game players utilizing a structured questionnaire. We employed a multi-analytic approach combining partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and necessary condition analysis (NCA) to examine the proposed relationships. Findings – The findings show that all dimensions of value and player satisfaction significantly affect the intention to acquire virtual goods. However, social value does not exert a significant effect on player satisfaction. Moreover, we confirmed that player satisfaction mediates the relationships between functional value, emotional value, and purchase intention. Furthermore, NCA results indicated that all predictors in the model are necessary conditions of purchase intention for virtual goods. Originality/value – These findings contribute to an enhanced understanding of purchase intentions among online game players from a symmetric (PLS-SEM) and asymmetric (NCA) perspective by proposing a multi-analytic approach.

Feelings significantly affect organizations in a variety of circumstances and areas. Many major events that affect people and organizations cannot be discussed without an understanding of the essential roles of feelings. In addition, work-related feelings can substantially affect employees’ health, well-being, productivity, and performance. The purposes of this research were (1) to validate the work-related affective feelings (WORAF) questionnaire in Arabic respondents, (2) to examine the relationships among four WORAF: happiness, anxiety, anger, and dejection, and (3) to compare the model results with those in Turkish respondents participating in a previous study. A survey with the following four components was conducted: (1) work-related feelings of happiness, (2) work-related feelings of anxiety, (3) work-related feelings of anger, and (4) work-related feelings of dejection. A paper-based survey was completed by 332 workers from various companies in Saudi Arabia. The key components of the research model were developed with partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). According to the findings, workplace dejection and anger considerably affected workplace anxiety. Similarly, work-related dejection, anger, and anxiety significantly affected perceived happiness. A comparison indicated similar results between Arabic and Turkish respondents.

Opis:
The purpose of the paper is to empirically determine the impact of human capital on the innovation performance of EU economies. Currently, most researchers consider human capital a significant factor of economic growth based on knowledge and innovation. Depending on the amount and quality of the available resources, human capital can play various parts in an economy, e.g. that of a user of existing knowledge and technology (general human capital), an implementer of new solutions, or a creator of previously undiscovered knowledge (specialised human capital). However, there is a gap in the literature regarding empirical research into the influence of human capital on the innovativeness of economies. This is related to the difficulties associated with the measurement of the two categories, as well as the limited number of methods to study the relationships between unobservable variables. The research described in the paper fills this gap. In order to study the relationship between human capital (general and specialised) and the innovation performance of economies, the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used. The research spanned the years 2014-2020. Four PLS-SEM models were estimated based on cross-sectional data for the EU economies. The results showed that human capital significantly boosts the innovation performance of EU economies. Both general human capital and specific human capital had a significant positive impact on the innovation performance of these countries in the analysed years. The results can have a practical application and serve as an instrument of innovation policies or as a tool helpful in creating conditions for innovation systems.

Opis:
Research background: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected higher education globally and disrupted its usual activities, according to differing perspectives. The ability to adapt to online activities was an important factor for many researchers during the pandemic period. Purpose of the article: In this article, the authors are studying the ability of the students to adapt to online activities, and also the direct and indirect effect on their academic performances. Methods: The data was collected with a questionnaire and the respondents are students from Romanian Universities. The analysis was made with an econometric model by using the PLS-SEM methodology. The goal of the paper was to find and analyse the factors used to perform academic online activities during the pandemic period. Findings & value added: The results of the paper validate the research hypotheses formulated in the introductory part and confirm that the students' academic performances are a direct result of many factors, such as: system parameters, personal demand, personal commitment, and regulatory environment. The identification of the exogenous variables with significant impact on the students' performances through online activities could help the management of the universities to implement the positive aspects and to reward them for their efforts while preventing from resilience to change. The higher education system has to acknowledge that flexible online learning opportunities are needed by students to fit their coursework around their employment and family responsibilities.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to assess the integrity of the elements of innovation processes and to measure their efficiency based on the Schumpeter trilogy concept. The research was conducted with regard to European Union (EU) countries. The paper applies the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method that allows the analysis of latent variables (LVs). On the basis of the PLS-SEM models for 2010 and 2020, it was concluded that innovation processes were proceeding in an integrated manner in EU countries. Not only did the modelling results indicate a positive and moderate effect of the invention inputs LV on the innovation efficiency LV, but also a positive and strong influence of innovation efficiency LV on the innovation diffusion LV in the analyzed countries in both researched years. The technological process integrity of the EU economies was lower in 2020, than in 2010. In order to improve the functioning of innovation activities it is necessary to increase technology inputs and the efficiency of their use in R&D activities. Intensification of the collaboration between scientific and research institutes and entrepreneurs is recommended. The PLS-SEM model made it possible to measure its elements and assess the integrity of technological change.
