Opis:
Abstract Astronomy and nuclear or particle physics are often considered as two opposite extremes, but in fact their common part is not empty and still enlarging. In this brief review we trace their common roots and we look for their common future. We predict that soon they will de facto merge in terms of phenomena being studied, theories used to describe them as well as experimental techniques. We gave several examples, devoting special attention to the "Pi of the Sky" project searching for optical flashes of astrophysical origin.

We show that the critical point of the two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model can be easily found through studies of either on-site atom number fluctuations or the nearest-neighbor two-point correlation function (the expectation value of the tunnelling operator).

Opis:
The study explores the interdisciplinary nature of Physics. Envisages feature of this open science, and finally focuses on illustrating the close relations that Physics maintains and develops the other sciences. It shows that Physics borrows its methods and language, biology, chemistry, technical disciplines, astronomy. Biology, chemistry, astronomy, technical disciplines, provide physics, mainly, the research subject. Mathematics provides physics methods and the language, taking itself from physics the research theme.

Opis:
A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions, $R_{\tau /e} = B(W \to \tau\nu)/B(W \to e\nu)$, is performed using a sample of W bosons originating from top-quark decays to final states containing $\tau$-leptons or electrons. This measurement uses pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during Run 2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb$^{−1}$. The $W \to \tau\nu_{\tau}$ (with $\tau \to e\nu_{e}\nu_{\tau}$) and $W \to e_{\nu_{e}}$ decays are distinguished using the differences in the impact parameter distributions and transverse momentum spectra of the electrons. The measured ratio of branching fractions $R_{\tau /e}$ = 0.975 ± 0.012 (stat.) ± 0.020 (syst.), is consistent with the Standard Model assumption of lepton flavour universality in W-boson decays.

Opis:
The aim of this article is a creation of general method of using the historical material for the formation of learners’ interest in physics. The learner will be not able to understand the educational material, if the learner doesn’t feel the need to study it. In this way, it is necessary to develop the learners’ interest. The history of physics has a great potential for the formation of learners’ interest in physics. The forms of the historical material in physics teaching have been defined. These are historical views, descriptions of experiments, tasks with historical content, demonstration of models of historical devices, biographies of scientists. Results proved that the appropriate forms of historical material increase the level of learners’ interest in physics. Every science has its own history. Therefore, this general method can be used in the teaching of other sciences.

Three-body forces from a classical nonlinear field

Opis:
Forces in the systems of two opposite sign and three identical charges coupled to the dynamical scalar field of the signum-Gordon model are investigated. Three-body force is present, and the exact formula for it is found. Flipping the sign of one of the two charges changes not only the sign but also the magnitude of the force. Both effects are due to nonlinearity of the field equation.

Measurements of Higgs boson production cross-sections in the $H\to \tau ^{+} \tau ^{-}$ decay channel in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13 TeV$ with the ATLAS detector
Autorzy:
Pałka, Marek
Gil, Damian

Opis:
Measurements of the production cross-sections of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson (H) decaying into a pair of $\tau$-leptons are presented. The measurements use data collected with the ATLAS detector from pp collisions produced at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. Leptonic ($\tau\rightarrow \ell\nu_{\ell}\nu_{\tau}$) and hadronic ($\tau\rightarrow$ hadrons $\nu_{\tau}$) decays of the $\tau$-lepton are considered. All measurements account for the branching ratio of $H\to \tau \tau $ and are performed with a requirement $\left|y_{H} \right|$ < 2.5, where $y_{H}$ is the true Higgs boson rapidity. The cross-section of the $pp\to H\to \tau \tau$ process is measured to be 2.94 ± 0.21$(stat)_{-0.32}^{+0.37}(syst)$ pb, in agreement with the SM prediction of 3.17 ± 0.09 pb. Inclusive cross-sections are determined separately for the four dominant production modes: 2.65 ± 0.41$(stat)_{-0.67}^{+0.91}(syst)$ pb for gluon-gluon fusion, 0.197 ± 0.028$(stat)_{-0.026}^{+0.032}(syst)$ pb for vector-boson fusion, 0.115 ± 0.058$(stat)_{-0.040}^{+0.042}(syst)$ pb for vector-boson associated production, and 0.033 ± 0.031$(stat)_{-0.017}^{+0.022}(syst)$ pb for top-quark pair associated production. Measurements in exclusive regions of the phase space, using the simplified template cross-section framework, are also performed. All results are in agreement with the SM predictions.
