Theology of pilgrimage – selected biblical and pastoral aspectsThe author develops theology of pilgrimage on the base of selected scriptures of the Old and New Testament. He refers especially to the way of Abraham, Exodus of Israel from Egypt and excerpts of the Epistles of Apostle Paul. Biblical stories are prophetic announcements of Church which is described as the faithful on the pilgrimage. Moreover, the stories are symbol of a journey of each human being to the encounter with God in the eternity. The author formulates practical conclusions for the pilgrimage ministry and for pilgrims themselves. He begins the analysis with the description of the moment of taking up the journey when after time filled with restlessness the pilgrim makes decision on the future ( entrusting to God, stating purposes, strengthening religious motivations of the pilgrimage, surrendering to the providence of God ). In the next stage, he discusses journey alone, which is time of the trial and strengthening the pilgrim. The pilgrimage is not only about reaching destination, getting from the pilgrim’s home to the shrine, but about a spiritual journey of conversion, renewal, deepening faith and approaching God. Duration of the pilgrimage is measured not only by time in literal meaning ( chronos ), but by time of fulfillment of plans of God (kairos)

Opis:
Aim. Pilgrimage thus belongs to the oldest non-economic forms of migration and is a phenomenon that has intertwined throughout the history of religions. The aim of the article is to emphasize the important position of religious tourism as one of its forms. Based on the deep-rooted tradition of wandering in Slovakia, characterize important places of pilgrimage of national and perhaps partly international significance. Method. Terrain reconnaissance together with analysis of archival and parish documents. Results. Numerous Marian temples and chapels testify to the Marian veneration in Slovakia. Of the 5925 known patronages of churches and chapels (even those that have disappeared) in Slovakia, 1762 are dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Of these Marian patrons, 329 are consecrated by the Seven Sorrows of Our Virgin Mary. The result of field research is an analysis of six pilgrimage sites of national importance in Slovakia. Conclusion. Slovakia is a strongly Christian country with a tradition of wandering, as evidenced by many local and regional pilgrimage sites. Pilgrimage sites are understood as contact points that God has marked, they are the intersections where the ways of God meet the ways of people. There are mostly Marian pilgrimage sites in Slovakia and six of them (Marianka, Staré Hory, Levoča, Šaštín, Nitra, Ľutina) are of national importance.

The discussion focuses on the notion of the world system of pilgrimage centres and the phenomenon of pilgrimage in the contemporary world. The authors emphasize the correlations among the centres, resulting from both their spatial and functional structure. The most significant pilgrimage centres in individual religions have been mentioned, with particular consideration of the Christian ones. Towards the end of the article, the main development trends in pilgrimage migrations and destinations have been outlined.
Rozważania koncentrują się wokół pojęcia światowego systemu ośrodków pielgrzymkowych i zjawiska pielgrzymowania w świecie współczesnym. Zwrócono uwagę na wzajemne relacje między ośrodkami, wynikające zarówno z ich struktury przestrzennej, jak i funkcjonalnej. Wskazano najważniejsze centra pielgrzymkowe w poszczególnych religiach, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ośrodków chrześcijańskich. W części końcowej zarysowano główne kierunki rozwoju migracji i miejsc pielgrzymkowych.

The conducted research leads to the conclusions that the beginning of the twenty‑first century is a period of the renaissance of pilgrimage and hiking trails in Europe. On the trails, young people constitute a significant group. The increasing growth of the secularization processes in the world does not affect the popularity of religious travelling. Is the phenomenon of youth pilgrimage going to survive in the coming decades full of demographic, cultural and socio‑economic challenges? However, the current demographic situation in developed countries, particularly the increasing proportion of older people living in society, as well as the rapidly growing number of young people departing from faith and a lack of stable geopolitical situation will be important factors contributing to a decline of pilgrimages among the young. A distortion of their meaning and treating them exclusively as routes of active tourism and culture is also a threat. It must be emphasized that pilgrimage routes will attract a new crowd of young pilgrims only if they remain the ways of faith, prayer, conversion and Christian love.
