Opis:: In this study, “Self-Efficacy Belief Scale in Science Teaching” was used, which was developed by Enochs and Riggs (1990). The study was designed based on experimental design with pretest-posttest control group. The scale was applied to 78 pre-service teachers enrolled at the 3rd grade of Niğde University Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education as a pretest before the implementation and as a posttest after the implementation. It was found that technology based teaching materials were effective on science teaching self-efficacy beliefs of pre-service elementary teachers only as much as the teaching materials designed by teachers.

Opis:: This pilot study aims to identify the presence of components which are consistent with meaningful learning in science teaching. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six science teachers and the results show that some of the teachers’ perceptions and practices in science teaching are consistent with meaningful learning components. Science teachers’ descriptions led to the identification of six categories which can be classified into two sets of components: Constitutive (e.g., ‘authenticity’ and ‘prior knowledge’) and. Consecutive (e.g., ‘cooperative learning’, ‘knowledge construction’, ‘learning by doing’ and ‘feedback’). Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a positive change in teachers’ perceptions and implementation of pedagogical processes for promoting meaningful learning in science teaching. The implications of these findings for future research are discussed.

Opis:: In recent years, zombies have made a stunning career, not only in literature and film, but also in scientificresearch. Zombies appear in scientific discourse as a reflection of fears connected with colonialism,imperialism, capitalism, consumerism, as well as metaphors for threats, like terrorism, asymmetric conflicts,epidemics and many more. It is also a useful concept for capturing ideas and theories remaining in scientificcirculation which are in fact dead. So-called “zombie-categories” reflect theories that either explain nothingor the phenomena they refer to do not exist. Taking this into account, it is hard not to use zombies in politicaltheory, especially as a useful category that enables the identification of “dead and alive” theories. Besides, zombie metaphors seem to be very promising in the political science teaching and a lot of research hasalready been undertaken in that field bringing unexpected and valuable results.

Opis:: The aim of this study was to obtain information on pre-service teachers’ experiences and viewpoints on science journals and journal writing. The current study utilized a qualitative research method, namely phenomenography. The data were collected by conducting face to face semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the verbatim transcripts of pre-service teachers’ interviews was performed with the use of the phenomenographic method. The findings are presented as themes, subthemes and categories. The participants in the study commented on the content of science journals, usefulness of journal writing in science courses and using science journals in primary education based on their observations during the practical activities at schools.

Opis:: Przez długie lata edukacja była tą dziedziną, w której obawiano się działań nowych, spontanicznych, a same przykłady innowacji zdarzały się niezbyt często. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wstępną ocenę programu nauczania przedmiotu uzupełniającego „Przyroda” do liceum i powstał jako efekt Projektu „Kształcenie Pełne Wyobraźni – KPW”. Projekt realizowany jest przez Wyższą Szkołę Europejską im. Ks. Józefa Tischnera w Krakowie. Celem głównym tego projektu jest podniesienie jakości kształcenia w czterech pilotażowych liceach ogólnokształcących woj. małopolskiego i śląskiego poprzez wdrożenie dwóch innowacyjnych programów nauczania w zakresie nauk matematyczno-przyrodniczych i humanistycznych wraz z upowszechnieniem opracowanych programów i materiałów dydaktycznych w skali całego kraju. Istotną cechą programu nauczania przyrody jest przedstawienie zagadnień w sposób interdyscyplinarny, aby uczniowie w sposób kompleksowy dostrzegali prezentowaną tematykę, jak również jego praktyczne (utylitarne) wykorzystanie (bez nadmiernego teoretyzowania) i aktualność poruszanych w nim zagadnień. Taka koncepcja nauczania przyrody pozwoli uczniom na rozwinięcie zainteresowań przedmiotami przyrodniczymi oraz zrozumienie i wykorzystanie nowoczesnych metod i osiągnięć badawczych stosowanych w naukach przyrodniczych.
For a long time education was a discipline in which spontaneous and not well-tested activities were feared and the attempts to introduce innovations were very rare. However, in recent years innovation in education has acquired a new meaning. Despite many critical remarks and debates on the process of introducing changes in education, the accepted solutions have contributed to the quality of didactic process. This paper presents the initial assessment of the syllabus of a supplementary subject – Natural Science – in upper secondary school. It stems from the project entitled Education full of Imagination, undertaken by the Tischner European University in Krakow. The main aim of the project is to improve the quality of education in four pilot upper secondary schools in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Kraków) and Silesian Voivodeship (Katowice) implementing two innovative syllabuses in the fields of Science and Humanities. This project also aims at promoting the designed syllabuses and teaching materials in the whole country. The important feature of this syllabus is its interdisciplinary nature. Pupils should perceive the presented topics in a comprehensive manner. They should see its practical (utilitarian) application (without excessive theorizing) and its relevance to the latest achievements in science. Such a concept of teaching Natural Science will allow pupils to develop their interests in Natural Science subjects. They will understand and use modern methods and research achievements applied in Natural Science.
