Opis:
The article presents an attempt to confirm the circumplex structure of goal contents, identified in 15 cultures around the world (Grouzet et al., 2005), in nine Polish samples. The procedure followed steps from the original study and included testing the assumed 11-factor goal structure and the two-dimensional circular organization of the goal contents. None of the analyses showed outcomes that would explicitly confirm the results attained in the original study. The CFA showed rather poor fits. Results of the MDS generally supported the assumption about the two-dimensional goal contents structure, however ipsative distance analysis reproduced only one of the two assumed dimensions. Finally, although the CIRCUM analysis showed in principle that in the Polish sample the organization of goal contents on the circumference was quite similar to original, the RMSEA indicated poor fit. Methodological and conceptual reasons for the replication failure are analyzed and discussed.

Opis:
School is one of the key environments for meeting the needs of pupils, and functioning in a school setting translates into the well-being of children and young people. More than 50 years of research on self-determination theory (SDT) conducted by its founders - Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan - as well as researchers focused on validating the concept's assumptions - has allowed the identification of factors that foster students' social development and educational achievement. The practical implications of SDT equip teachers with an evidence-based perspective of the classroom and the tools to work effectively considering the realities of the educational process.

Opis:
A comprehensive understanding of participants’ motives to complete web-based surveys has the potential to improve data quality. In this study we tested the construct validity of a scale developed to measure motivation to participate in webbased surveys. We expected that 7 different motivations observed in our previous study will form a 3-factor structure, as predicted by Self-Determination Theory. This web-based questionnaire study comprised 257 participants completing the Voluntary Participation in Online Studies Scale. Their responses to 21 items underwent a principal component analysis and confi rmatory factor analysis. As we expected, three factors were identifi ed: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and amotivation. In line with Self-Determination Theory there are three distinct groups of motives among web-surveys participants with amotivation as an understudied motivational state. We discuss the results suggesting which types of motivation might lead to higher quality of data with an emphasis on possible negative effects of amotivation.

Opis:
The paper focuses on issues of work motivation and work ethic believes presented by members of orga- nizations. Ryan Deci’s Self Determination Theory (2000) and Weber’s work ethic concept (2011) serve as a theoretical basis for the explanation of work attitudes. The aim of our research is to present how the generational affiliation differentiate work ethic and work motivation in three groups of employees. The sample consists of 312 employees from Polish organizations in various industries. The study did not confirm any differences between age groups in their attitude towards work (work ethic), except from the acceptance of hard work. Young workers value the hard work more than others and they believe it leads to success. Significant differences also have been confirmed in the case of amotivation (scores higher for older employees) and external regulation (lower scores in older workers).

Opis:
The study investigated psychometric properties of the Sport Motivation Scale-6 (SMS-6), assessing intrinsic regulation, four extrinsic regulation constructs, and amotivation among athletes competing at a regional and national level. In particular, we tested the factorial structure of SMS-6, its short-term stability, and the associations of SMS-6 constructs with self-efficacy, self-esteem, motivational climate, and satisfaction with sport performance. Participants were 197 athletes (57.4% women), representing team (54.7%) and individual disciplines. The measurement was repeated at the three-week follow-up (n = 107). Results yielded support for the six first-order factor structure (three second-order factors). More autonomous forms of motivation were related to higher levels of self-efficacy, performance satisfaction, and taskoriented motivational climate in sport organizations. Sequential multiple mediation analysis showed that the association between general self-efficacy and performance satisfaction at a follow-up was mediated by introjected regulation and personal-barrier self-efficacy.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to present the tool used to identify, analyse and diagnose students’ motivation to study. The research is based on the Self Determination Theory. This research included 442 students of tourism and recreation at three types of universities. The Academic Motivation Scale was used and the method of the diagnostic survey using the questionnaire technique was applied. Results indicated that the respondents were a homogeneous group. The students scored the highest on two subscales of extrinsic motivation (external regulation and identification) and on the subscale of intrinsic motivation to know. Results revealed significant difference between female students of different universities regarding amotivation. Female students of the university of economics scored higher on amotivation than female students of other universities. Diagnosis of students’ motivation requires regular monitoring and should be done at least two times every education cycle. The most alarming result regarding students’ motivation to study is the high, or even soaring level of amotivation. Conversely, the internal motivation is the most autonomous and therefore the most desirable type of motivation for students and should be nurtured. Internal motivation refers to the act of doing something for the sole pleasure of the activity, excluding the external structure of punishment and reward, the so-called “carrot and stick” method.

Opis:
Attribution theory (Weiner, 1985) and self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) have been explored as contributors to L2 motivation (cf. Dörnyei, 2001) but have never been studied quantitatively in concert. In addition, students’ attributions for success in learning a foreign language have never been measured through the use of a questionnaire. The aim of this paper is therefore (a) to develop a questionnaire with reliable constructs that allows to measure adult learners’ attributions for their success in learning English in a corporate setting, (b) to investigate these learners’ attributions, and (c) to investigate the relationship between students’ attributions and the constructs of Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation central to self-determination theory. Our main results show that among the attributions measured, interest, effort and corporate culture seemed to be the main causes that students recognised as directly involved in their success in learning English. Of all the attributional scales, interest and ability appeared to importantly contribute to intrinsic motivation, while corporate culture, encounters with foreign professionals and ability contributed to a lower extent to extrinsic motivation. It must be noted, however, that attributions for success to teacher and task were so consistently high that they could not be reliably measured with the questionnaire.

Opis:
This study employed a questionnaire survey method and utilised the Self-Determination Theory as a theoretical framework to simulate students’ “needs”. The aim was to investigate the impact of OBE-based teaching reform on students’ academic achievement, satisfaction, autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The study used a quasi-experimental research design with 80 students from Changzhi Medical College as the sample and found that OBE teaching can improve students’ academic achievement, especially for middle and low-performance students. It can improve students’ satisfaction with the course and relatedness experience.

Opis:
The planetary health diet is a proposition of a diet that is healthy for both people and the environment. The aim of this study was to investigate the nutritional behaviours among people who follow the planetary health diet and those who do not and assess the source of motivation that drives a willingness to follow sustainable diet guidelines. Using a self-administered questionnaire, data were collected from Polish adult volunteers. For analysis, respondents were divided into the following two groups: those following a planetary health diet (PD) and those who were not (O). Of the 216 respondents, 39.4% followed the PD. Non-adherence to the PD was linked to a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity. Taste was the most important factor for both groups during grocery shopping. However, sustainable agriculture and the health benefits of products were significantly more important for the PD followers. It can be concluded that adherence to the planetary diet is associated with lower body mass. This highlights the need for increased awareness and education about a diet’s health benefits and environmental impact.

Wpływ poziomu samoaktualizacji oraz podstawowych potrzeb psychologicznych studentów na efektywność ich uczenia się oraz zaangażowanie w działalność organizacji studenckich.
Influence of students self-actualization and basic psychological needs on their learning outcomes and engagement in student organizations.
Autorzy:
Tomski, Jakub
Opis:
For many years psychological researchers refused to consider learning style as a separate construct and defined it as a particular case of cognitive style embedded in context of learning. Further research showed these two phenomenons are related, but different in their nature. Learning style proved to be complex phenomenon and learning outcomes dependent upon learner’s characteristics end learning environment. One of the most important factors determining learning outcomes is learner’s motivation. Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory (1985; 2000) and Uchanst’s synergistic self-actualization scale (2008) were used to make two hypotheses. First assumed level of student’s competence need and synergistic self actualization will allow to predict whether or not student receives scholarship. Second assumed level of student’s relatedness need and personal self-actualization will enhance probability of predicting if student joins student organization. Neither of hypotheses has been confirmed.
