Opis:
Over the last forty years, since Bandura (1977) introduced the concept of self-efficacy, there have been a constantly growing number of research publications using this concept. Its early development resulted in the creation of a new construct of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) proposed for the first time by (Chen et al. 1998). Since then, many different groups of research concerning ESE have emerged - one of them is the study of ESE of students. With regard to this particular group, a recent tendency to study ESE in a pre-post setting can be noticed i.a. Karlsson, Moberg (2013), Shinnar, Hsu, Powell (2014), Ismail, Zain, Zulihar (2015). Due to the increasing interest in entrepreneurial self-efficacy research and the need to fill the gap in the literature with regard to European post-communist countries (and particularly – Poland) (Drnovsek, Wincent, Cardon, 2010), in this paper we present a brief overview of ESE research and pose the question whether ESE of Polish students can serve as an early predictor of their subsequent entrepreneurial activities, potentially leading them to nascent entrepreneurship. The research material was collected from the SEAS (Survey on Entrepreneurial Attitudes of Students) Project carried out at the Faculty of Management and Economics, Gdańsk University of Technology. The research sample was composed of 72 students - ESE was measured in a pre-post setting using a single item based on a five-point Likert scale. One of the research conclusions is that ESE manifested by student-beginners seems to influence their later entrepreneurial behavior in a statistically significant way - potentially making ESE a valuable early predictor of future entrepreneurial activities. In the concluding part of the study, limitations are discussed and future study developments are indicated.

Opis:
The authors discuss the role of general self-efficacy in new ventures creation. In the first part of the article antecedents and consequences of self-efficacy are described based on Bandura’a theory (1984). Antecedents, which include mastery experience, social modelling, physiological arousal and social persuasion, are discussed in relation to the situation of nascent entrepreneurs. Self-efficacy’s consequences - such as perceiving stressful situations as challenges and the ability to recover from disappointments are hypothesized to be important factors deciding on nascent entrepreneurs’ behavior and outcomes. In the second part of the article a distinction between general self-efficacy and entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) is described. The authors discuss theoretical and methodological aspects of using ESE in research on nascent entrepreneurs’ intention to create new ventures.
Źródła poczucia własnej skuteczności, do których należą doświadczenie własnych sukcesów, modelowanie społeczne, pobudzenie emocjonalne i perswazja społeczna, zostały przedstawione w kontekście sytuacji początkującego przedsiębiorcy (preprzedsiębiorcy). Autorzy przedstawiają teoretyczne i metodologiczne aspekty wykorzystania ESE w badaniach dotyczących intencji założenia firmy u preprzedsiębiorców.

Opis:
Internet self-efficacy (ISE) is considered an important factor influencing attitudes toward technology and online behavior. The goal of this paper is to present current state of the art in Internet self-efficacy research and to provide critical review of issues of ISE measurement. Recently increasing ambiguity and inconsistencies regarding operationalization of Internet self-efficacy became more noticeable in literature, as the distinction between general (GISE) and specific Internet self-efficacy (SISE) led to problems with precise and useful measurement of Internet self-efficacy. The article contains an overview of existing tools to measure Internet self-efficacy, along with recommendations for their use in research and diagnosis.

The Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES) factorial structure evidence review and new evidence from Polish-speaking samples
Autorzy:
Koniewski, Maciej
Opis:
The Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES) is a widely accepted and enthusiastically used measurement instrument. Unfortunately, little firm evidence is available to support its factorial structure. The article reports on the results of the TSES administered to large representative samples of primary (2,083) and lower-secondary school teachers (2,382) in Poland, along with the results of reanalyzed US data, based on which the scale was developed. The results support TSES as a reliable instrument applicable across countries. However, they also highlight the importance of analyzing the factorial structure of the scale with each application, as it may require modifications when administered to different samples. Additionally, moderate evidence was found in Polish data for TSES to be invariant between primary and lower-secondary school teachers.

Opis:
The article presents empirical and diagnostic research aiming to recognise how a generalised feeling of self-efficacy differentiates students’ independent learning. In the research, Generalized Self – Efficacy Scale (GSES) was applied (according to R. Schwarzer, M. Jeruzalem, in the Polish adaptation by Z. Juczyński) as well as a free-form interview, partially categorised. The study group was composed of 215 intentionally selected pedagogy students, following full-time and part-time courses. The variable adopted in the research differentiates the view of students’ independent learning, mainly in terms of the degree of involvement in their own learning. A high level of self-efficacy seems to be related to regularity, persistence in learning, consistency, the ability to focus on longer periods of learning, as well as the ability to plan and organize one’s own learning process. A generalized sense of self-efficacy, however, is not critical to how we understand the concept of learning, assigning value to it, and the used learning techniques.

Opis:
Introduction: Self-efficacy in nurses appears to be of great importance, and is one of the indicators of behaviour Purpose: Nurses’ self-assessment of their generalized self-efficacy in relation to their workplace. Material and methods: The study involved random sample of 570 nurses. A diagnostic survey was carried out using the standardized Generalized SelfEfficacy Scale (GSES). Results: The average value of self-efficacy amounted to 29.3±30. Among the respondents, 56.8% represented category of “high efficacy”, whereas others were of “average efficacy” (32.3%) and “low efficacy” (10.9%). The overall assessment of the nursing profession was higher in participants who presented higher values on GSES scale (R=0.12). The average general level of satisfaction in terms of 20 aspects of professional work was connected with self-efficacy which proved statistically significant. Analysis of self-efficacy score did not indicate statistically significant differences among workplaces. Conclusion: Over half of the participants represented the category of “high efficacy”. The group of nurses employed in district hospitals presented the least instances of low self-efficacy assessment. Individuals who were satisfied with their nursing professional development opportunities had a higher self-efficacy. The higher the perception of self-efficacy, the higher the workplace satisfaction. The average level of satisfaction resulting from various aspects of nursing profession depended on the perception of selfefficacy in the following areas of assessment: professional development opportunity, decisionmaking autonomy, sense of purpose at work, and, to a lesser extent, occupational safety, maintaining work-life balance, and the possibility of communicating with people.

Opis:
The authors present the results of research carried out in the 2017/2018 academic year among foreign languages teachers at eight higher education institutions. The aim of the study was to find out the connection between the participation activity rate of foreign languages teachers in specially focused network pedagogical communities and the level of professional self-realization through their self-efficacy. We used methods of mathematical statistics, computer data processing and discursive reflextion for drawing logical conclusions from experimental data. 267 foreign languages teachers from Ukrainian universities participated in the first stage of research. During the second stage, 108 selected foreign languages teachers completed a questionnaire for collecting data and evaluating the level of their self-efficacy. Results indicate a significant difference in the professional self-realization levels among the members and non-members of specially focused network communities and confirm the suggested hypothesis.

Opis:
Intoduction. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder that most often relates to elderly people. It is a vital clinical problem and results in a negative impact on life expectancy and quality of seniors' life . Aim. The purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of seniors' instrumental skills diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in relation to self-efficacy. Material and methods. There were 100 patients with type 2 diabetes who participated in the study. A self-report questionnaire, a Lawton scale, and a standardized GSES General Efficacy Scale were used. Results. Men with advanced diabetes have a significantly higher level of self-efficacy than women. They also deal with daily instrumental skills better than women. The highest sklifulness was represented by seniors with tertiary and secondary education and the lowest by people with basic education. Conclusions. Instrumental skills of seniors with type 2 diabetes differentiates their opinions on self-efficacy.
Wstęp. Cukrzyca typu 2 to zespół zaburzeń metabolicznych, która najczęściej dotyczy osób w starszym wieku. Stanowi ona istotny problemem kliniczny oraz wykazuje negatywny wpływ na długość i jakość życia seniorów. Cel. Celem prowadzonych badań była analiza wpływu sprawności seniorów z cukrzycą typu 2 w czynnościach instrumentalnych w odniesieniu do poczucia własnej skuteczności. Materiał i metody. W badaniu uczestniczyło 100 pacjentów z cukrzycą typu 2. Wykorzystany został kwestionariusz ankiety konstrukcji własnej, skala Lawtona oraz standaryzowana Skala Uogólnionej Własnej Skuteczności GSES. Wyniki. Mężczyźni chorujący na cukrzycę w wieku podeszłym posiadają zdecydowanie wyższy poziom poczucia własnej skuteczności w odniesieniu do kobiet. Lepiej radzą sobie także w instrumentalnych czynnościach dnia codziennego porównaniu do kobiet. Najwyższą sprawność w czynnościach instrumentalnych prezentowali seniorzy z wykształceniem wyższym oraz średnim a najniższą- osoby z wykształceniem podstawowym. Wnioski. Sprawność instrumentalna seniorów z cukrzycą typu 2 różnicuje ich opinie w zakresie poczucia własnej skuteczności.

The first part presents fundamentals assumptions concerning expectations, especially taking into account self-efficacy and its role in changing behaviour. Generalized self-efficacy beliefs reflect the strength of individuals’ ability to respond to and control environmental demands and challenges. Second part presents two methods to assessment self-efficacy beliefs: for adults – Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Schwarzer and Jerusalem, adopted into Polish condition by Juczyński and for children – Scale of Self-Efficacy prepared by Juczyn´ ski. For each method have been presented description, administration, scoring, interpretation, evaluation and psychometric status.
