Opis:
The article is an attempt to answer a question whether writing in a foreign language is a genuine challenge, a support in (educational) everyday reality, or solely a separate activity of secondary importance. Writing in a foreign language is considered here from the perspective of other language skills, followed by an analysis of a questionnaire conducted among students of School of German examining the importance and level of difficulty attached by them to individual skills.

Opis:
Background: The ageing process causes a number of changes in the human immune and endocrine systems. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between cognitive, emotional and functional skills as well lifestyle, versus selected biochemical indicators of the ageing process. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted in a group of 121 people aged 60–90 residing in the Lesser Poland voivodship. The study used standardized research tools including the Barthel scale, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) and inventory of health behaviors (IHB). In addition, the concentration of IL-6 and melatonin in the blood plasma was determined. Results: We determined the correlation between the level of IL-6 in a group of people over 75 years of age (requiring medical care), and results of the IADL scale. There was also a correlation between melatonin levels and the MMSE results in a group of people aged 60–75 who did not require constant medical care. Conclusions: IL-6 can be treated as a predictor of functional skills of people over 75 years of age, and melatonin can be perceived as a factor for recognizing cognitive impairment in elderly people who do not require constant medical assistance

The paper presents three different approaches to assessing demand for skills and skill mismatch in the Polish labor market. Accurate and reliable information on these issues is crucial for creating adequate public policies to address the problem. In the following chapters we briefly discuss definitions and classifications of competencies, as well as we offer certain practical solutions. Next, we present advantages and shortcomings of different approaches to skills research. We conclude with presentation of various scenarios of skills analysis suiting the needs of different types of stakeholders.

Opis:
The analysis of the labour market in terms of available skills, and especially the skills mismatch, has become increasingly important due to potential problems caused by existing asymmetries. Prior to 2010, when data collection for the Human Capital Study was launched, there were no such analytical tools in use in Poland. On the basis of various solutions, we proposed an innovative approach to measuring both skills and skills mismatches, which since has gained wide recognition. In the article, we present this approach along with its extension to measure specific professional skills in specific industries. We discuss its advantages and disadvantages and compare it with other approaches used in this field.

Opis:
The psychophysical development of humans is genetically determined and influenced by a number of external factors. Nowadays, impacts on the physical development and physical ability of young men are caused by such phenomena as acceleration and civilizational or urban changes. Monitoring of changes in development and the influence of different factors seems to be justified as it is related to the understanding of processes and the introduction of preventive measures in the field of health and physical fitness for future generations. New concepts for testing human physical abilities seem to focus on utilitarian targets related to health needs and daily human activities. The study was performed on a group of 211 boys from an urban area, including 75 at the age of 11, 74 at the age of 12 and 62 at the age of 13. The study examined the strength of abdominal and trunk muscles (sits-up from a lying position), shoulder girdle and lower extremity muscles (overhang on a bar), and explosive strength of upper limbs (forward and backward medicine ball throw). Boys at the age of 11 years achieved the shortest distances, and boys at the age of 13 the longest distances in forward medicine ball throws. The results of the attained distances in backward medicine ball throws were also better in older boys compared to younger ones. The results of the muscle endurance tests were different. In both attempts, boys at the age of 12 attained better results than their younger and older colleagues. The development of strength abilities in boys between the age of 11 and 13 years has stable progress, while the observed differences in muscle endurance in boys at the age of 13 require further monitoring and further examination of their impact in terms of quality and quantity in boys of prepubertal age.

Opis:
Video Interaction Training (VIT) as a therapeutic method supporting socio-emotional development in children with verbal communication disordersThe article aims to present the possibilities of using VIT in therapy of children with verbal communication disorders and their families. VIT relies on basic communication principles i.e. such elements of a relation which secure the basic satisfactory interaction of a child with his/her immediate surroundings. The method consists in an analysis of video recordings with a focus on successful, positive instances of parent-child interaction. A child with verbal communication disorders often experiences negative emotions resulting from the disorder, which can be noted in disturbances of socio-emotional development. The use of the VIT method in therapeutic work with such children might help to reduce the negative emotion-motivation effects of the disorders and support a correct social development.
