Opis:: The article analyzes the urban space in the contemporary Polish crime fiction. It uses a set of narratives Mordercze miasta (Deadly Cities) written by Marta Guzowska, Agnieszka Krawczyk, and Adrianna Michalewska as an example that intends to help with analyzing the space in crime fiction. It also uses the Social Network Analysis (SNA) according to Barnes and Hannerz along with Caillois’ idea of a novel as a rational game. Finally, the article presents an argument that space is an element of a literary game that is well-known in the tradition of crime stories. It becomes an excuse to begin communication with the reader.

Opis:: Social network analysis (SNA) can be applied both within and between organisations. The paper draws attention to potential application of SNA to research organisations in the public sector. Literature review about the method as well as public sector lets to introduce a SNA framework to measure the effectiveness of public organizations. In the presented theoretical research it is assumed that every organisation is an example of network understood as a communication system determining organizational issues and its effectiveness. The paper suggests that individuals and groups which belong to the public organisation may have an impact on both formal structural variables as well as informal relationships in and between organisations. All these elements determines the effectiveness of a public organisation in undertaking public services.

Opis:: Plusieurs études se penchent ces dernières années sur la vie numérique des étudiants, aussi bien au lycée que dans l’enseignement supérieur. Nous passons d’abord en revue quelques travaux scientifiques, réalisés dans différents pays et qui essaient d’analyser quelle influence ont les technologies d’apprentissage sur sa qualité. Nous présentons ensuite l’enquête réalisée à l’Université Grenoble 2 auprès de tous les étudiants primoentrants en été 2012, enquête qui s’intéressait à leurs pratiques numériques, à leurs expériences numériques pour l’apprentissage, acquises au lycée et aux outils numériques utilisés éventuellement par les enseignants du secondaire, à leurs habitudes dans l’apprentissage des technologies et, enfin, à leurs attentes concernant les services numériques de l’université. Nous posons ensuite la question des modifications à prévoir en termes de missions de l’université par rapport aux services numériques, la place de ces outils dans les études et les changements qui interviendront probablement dans la relation entre les enseignants et les étudiants

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest analiza wpływu i znaczenia aktorów transnarodowych - zwłaszcza niekomercyjnych transnarodowych sieci wsparcia - w stosunkach międzynarodowych. Dla zrozumienia omawianego problemu badawczego podjęta zostanie analiza studium przypadku, którym są działania Amnesty International wobec kryzysu migracyjnego na obszarze Unii Europejskiej. Aktywność tej organizacji pozarządowej i skuteczność podejmowanych przez nią działań indywidualnie, jak również w ramach tzw. sieci wsparcia (ang. transnational advocacy network, TAN), przeanalizowana została przy wykorzystaniu modelu bumerangu, który stanowi teoretyczną ramę pracy. O wyborze takiego narzędzia badawczego decydują jego założenia ontologiczne i epistemologiczne. Zwracają one bowiem uwagę na pięć poziomów oddziaływania TANs na państwa i innych kluczowych uczestników stosunków międzynarodowych. Pozwalają ocenić efektywność działania transnarodowych sieci wsparcia w realizacji ich celów, ale jednocześnie poszukiwać odpowiedzi na pytanie o to, czy i jaki rzeczywisty wpływ TANs mogą wywierać na zmiany polityk i sposobów działania państw i innych aktorów międzynarodowych. Mając powyższe na uwadze, przyjęto następującą strukturę artykułu. W pierwszej części przedstawiono założenia metodologiczno-teoretyczne. Następnie dokonano analizy studium przypadku. Ostatnia część artykułu stanowi podsumowanie i próbę odpowiedzi na pytania badawcze dotyczące tego, czy aktorzy transnarodowi mogą w sposób realny wpływać na polityki państw i organizacji międzynarodowych oraz jakie uwarunkowania ograniczają oddziaływanie aktorów transnarodowych.(abstrakt oryginalny)
The aim of the article is to analyse the impact and importance of transnational actors - especially non-commercial transnational advocacy networks - in international relations. In order to understand this research problem, the authors undertake an analysis of the actions of Amnesty International in the face of the migration crisis in the European Union. The activity of this non-governmental organisation and the effectiveness of its activities, individually as well as within the framework of so- called transnational advocacy networks (TAN), are analysed using the boomerang model, which constitutes a theoretical framework. The choice of such a research tool is determined by its ontological and epistemological assumptions. These highlight five levels of TANs' impact on states and other key actors in international relations. They make it possible to assess the effectiveness of transnational advocacy networks in achieving their objectives, but at the same time to seek an answer to the question of whether and what real impact TANs may have on changes in the policies and actions of countries and other international actors. In view of the above, the following structure of the article has been adopted. The first part presents the methodological and theoretical assumptions. The case study is then analysed. The last part of the article is a summary and an attempt to answer research questions concerning whether transnational actors can have a real influence on the policies of states and international organisations and what conditions limit the impact of transnational actors.(original abstract)

Opis:: The main aim of the article is to argue the need for better focus of researchers conducting their research in the field of political science on some digital analytical tools used in social network analyses. Additional objectives are to outline the historical context of SNA’s development in this discipline, as well as to present possible fields of exploration and using of this method, both in basic and in applied research. Particular attention was paid to the potential of SNA in the study of the processes of cabinet coalitions formation, as well as to the important limitations of this method. The article was constructed as a methodological essay. We inevitably accept - because of its focus on network analyses a structural perspective on social reality. We verify the hypothesis that the greatest potential of SNA could be currently to create a visualization of social relations based on large data sets, but at the same time the most important barrier to the development of the method are limitations in the access to these data, which could be used as a basic analytical material for visualization of the network and generalization of the statistical conclusions. Presenting some political science research in Poland and around the world, in which SNA tools are used, we used the historical as well as the case study method.

Opis:: The topic of this article is network analysis, shown as an activating method used in education. Due to a growing interest in social networking sites and an increased importance of cooperation, it is necessary to improve students’ skills in the field of methods provided by Social Network Analysis (SNA). The potential of social networks can be used, for example to develop contacts, share ideas and as a communication tool. The aim of this paper is to present how students can study “network effects” − the value generated by network structures. This issue will be clarified on the example of Metcalfe’s law, selected measures of the SNA method and others. The exercise presented in the article is an excellent base for conducting in-depth research using the SNA method, which in turn allows to identify barriers to the flow of knowledge, discover invisible structures and relationships, analyse the collected data quantitatively and qualitatively. The article will indicate directions of using the analysis of social networks in research works at universities

Opis:: PURPOSE: The main purpose of this paper is to define a science and technology policy network in the form of a social network, from the perspective of policy documents, and then analyze it using the social networks analysis (SNA) method. METHODOLOGY: As a case study, the science and technology policymaking network in Iran is analyzed using the suggested framework in this research. The data used in this study were collected through the content analysis of 25 policy documents and an interview with 20 Iranian science and technology policy elites, before being interpreted using the social network analysis method and software such as NetDraw and UCINet. FINDINGS: The most pivotal science and technology policymaking institutions in Iran and the interactions between them were determined from the network viewpoint. This was achieved by performing a two-dimensional core-periphery analysis, identifying the cut points and blocks, and measuring the structural power of each institution using the degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality methods. IMPLICATIONS FOR THEORY AND PRACTICE: The most important practical implications of this research are: the integration of a number of policymaking institutions, the division of clear and precise work between policy institutions, the design of vertical and horizontal coordination mechanisms between institutions, the elimination of interferences of some institutions in the tasks of the others, the design of complementary mechanisms to control the role of cutting points, and paying attention to the important activities in the margins of the network. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: The most important contribution of this research is to develop a framework for studying science and technology policy and then to develop a method for studying science and technology policy based on SNA. Therefore, the framework for studying science and technology policy in a cycle consists of three stages: 1- Agenda setting and prioritization (at two levels of mega policies and meta policies); 2- Design and implementation or executive policies (in three parts: demandside policies, supply-side policies, and networking and interconnection infrastructure policies); 3- evaluation and policy learning.

As this subject matter is exceptionally complex, two main aspects of this issue have been chosen on the base of their significance - risk of infringement of the right to privacy and of politicization of the use of SNA, especially in the context of so-called "suspect communities." The possibility of indication of prompt solutions to presented matters has been discussed. As such, this paper is an introduction to presented subject area and provides a basis for further research.

Opis:: W artykule zaproponowane zostało podejście związane z analizą sieci społecznych, a także praktyczne możliwości zastosowania tych sieci w badaniu organizacji pod kątem procesów przepływu wiadomości mailowych pracowników. Celem pracy jest analiza kontaktów pomiędzy poszczególnymi pracownikami korporacji zastosowana do wyznaczenia pracowników – liderów z punktu widzenia rozprzestrzeniania się informacji lub wpływania na osoby będące w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie. Analiza ta w dalszych pracach powinna przyczynić się do stworzenia algorytmu, którego zastosowanie posłuży do poprawienia dokładności klasyfikacji wiadomości mailowych do poszczególnych folderów w skrzynkach pocztowych pracowników. Zaproponowana metoda została przetestowana na ogólnodostępnym zbiorze danych Enron E-mail.
In this article is proposed an approach based on the Social Network Analysis and its practical applicability in the study of the organization in terms of flow processes e-mails employees. The aim of this paper is to analyze the interaction between individual employees corporation used to designate staff-leaders from the point of view of spreading information or to influence those in the immediate vicinity. This analysis further work should contribute to the creation of the algorithm, the application of which will be used to improve the accuracy of the classification of e-mail messages to specific folders in the mailboxes of employees. The proposed method has been tested on a public dataset Enron Email.
