Opis:
In the modern economy, financial systems are vital to the allocation of financial resources. These systems help direct indivudals’ savings to the corporate sector and allocate investment funds among companies. Countries vary in the structure of these financial systems. In some financial systems, the stock exchange dominates, while in others, banks are the most important. What influences diversity in financial system structure? A key factor might be national culture. In order to assess the impact of culture on accounting patterns, it is important to consider the structure of culture and its dimensions. I apply the classification of cultures proposed by G. Hofstede – despite the criticism it received over the years. Cultural value dimensions with a relation to accounting values are as follows: Individualism, Power Distance, and Uncertainty Avoidance. The article also employs S.J. Gray’s theory of cultural relevance. According to Gray, societal values aff ect accounting practices in two ways: indirectly, through their influence on institutional consequences, and directly, through their influence on accounting values such as professionalism versus statutory control, uniformity versus fl exibility, conservatism versus optimism, and secrecy versus transparency. Th e article has implications for those who are responsible for corporate governance codes. It suggests that there is no uniform financial system; the influence of culture and the institutional envoronment are factors which should be taken into account when making any decision in the sphere of accounting.

Opis:
Development of economic and social values is regarded as a key factor in urban development and urban regeneration. With its history of urban renewal and regeneration since the 1970s, Rotterdam provides an example to assess the profound changes from a socialized mode of housing provision and urban renewal towards more market-oriented strategies. In this light, new forms of gentrification are becoming a regular strategy in former urban renewal areas, mainly dominated by social housing. The paper examines the development of economic and social values in areas of Rotterdam that have been transformed through the vast urban renewal and subsequent regeneration programs. Mostly these programs are area-based approaches that got priority in more European countries.

Background: Substance abuse has the potential to change value orientations and affects all aspects of human life. Objectives: The text aims to show the shift in value orientations of respondents who use addictive substances compared to respondents who do not. Methodology: One-way ANOVA was used in the statistical analysis of the dependence of the values on the occurrence of abusive behaviour, with dependencies at the level of p ≤ 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the group of respondents with abstinence from each addictive substance and the group of respondents without abstinence. Substance abuse shifts pro-family values towards greater individualization and thus threatens and destabilizes the family. It strengthens community-oriented values and weakens family-oriented values. Conclusions: The transformation of the value system leads to a destabilization of family ties, which cease to be a priority. Working with values should be an opportunity for social pedagogy, social work, and all types of schools. Non-formal and informal education present particular opportunities for values education. In many cases, it is unnecessary to change the value system, but only to show the non-deviant way of fulfilling values.

Educational organizations, more generally, have been organized on the basis of teaching, sustaining and protecting social values. Young generations could be trained by emphasizing the social values and social responsibilities against the destructive effects of globalization broadcast in the media, such as murder, terrorism, rape, vandalism, etc. The purpose of this study is to train students to be sensitive to social issues and make them aware of the importance of social responsibility. Under the coordination of the local National Educational Directorate (NED), the steps of the Project were developed with principals. Nearly 2000 students, 110 teachers and 120 classes, participated in the Project in ten different schools in Bilecik, Turkey.

Both the United Kingdom and Hungary run ambitious nuclear power plans to keep nuclear power as an important element of their energy mixes. The objective of the analysis is to identify if there is the intent and the possibility for a different form of public engagement in shaping the nuclear future. The study builds on the comparative analysis of the cases of Hungary and the United Kingdom. The ‘communication packages’ theory serves as reference of comparison. The study finds that changing social value sets and communication technology developments create challenges to governments in securing support for the nuclear agenda. This challenge creates an opportunity for members of the public with ‘reluctant acceptance’ of the nuclear agenda. Building on global uncertainty, challenges to the prevailing political and economic status quo, together with the growing influence of social media might assist the public to become vocal in their opinions about nuclear energy.

Background. The broad humanistic and socio-cultural theoretical perspectives applied to this research effort provides a foundation for the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts and the anthropological focus on martial arts used in this paper. Hence, conceptual language has been adopted for this investigation. The aim is to assess and identify the ethical values and pro-social perspectives accentuated by highranking masters in the martial art of jujutsu. Specifically, this paper seeks to answer the question of which values are most often prioritized or stressed? Method. The discussion involves the analysis of a broad survey of scientific and expert literature. Quoted and compared are the opinions and perspectives of 11 Grand Masters of jujutsu, holders of the highest titles and master's degrees (i.e, 9-10 dan), are analyzed and presented as evidence. Results. Classical schools and their representatives uniformly accentuate the value of tradition. On the other hand, there is a trend toward modernization both in the content of teaching and in technical ideas. This modernization began with Jigoro Kano, whose followers are today seen as reformers. All present Grand Masters pay attention to the ethical values and educational aspects of martial arts, particularly with regard to jujutsu. Conclusions. Ethics in jujutsu extends, as a kind of continuum between the traditionalist Butoku (i.e, knightly virtues resulting from Bushido) and the axiology of Christian Europe. A general consensus exists as to its educational and pro-social values. Aspects may also include self-control, self-discipline, perseverance, and responsibility, which are shaped by long-term educational processes.

This paper highlights the issues arising from an obligation such as surety. Under the provisions of the Polish Civil Code, the legal position of a guarantor is closely related to non-legal factors. The ambiguity and uncertainty of the status of a guarantor are even greater due to the variability in time of the normative construction of a surety. Therefore, in addition to the measures available in law, a certain counterweight, such as the general public values, is necessary to address this state of affairs. The most widely understood trust, being the necessary condition for the proper development of a modern democratic state of law, may undoubtedly play that role.

Niniejsza praca magisterska dotyczy kwestii nawiązywania do uznawanych przez społeczeństwo wartości w reklamach telewizyjnych. Kluczowym jej założeniem jest to, że reklama w celu zaistnienia w świadomości potencjalnego klienta może odnosić się swoim przekazem do istotnych z punktu widzenia człowieka-konsumenta kwestii, za które w niniejszej pracy uznane zostały wartości społeczne. Pierwszy rozdział niniejszej pracy prezentuje różne spojrzenia na kwestie reklamy oraz przyjęty w pracy model wyłaniania się struktur istotności w świadomości człowieka. W drugim rozdziale zaprezentowane zostały dwa podejścia do kwestii wartości społecznych: podejście psychologiczne oraz socjologiczne. Rozdział drugi zawiera także nawiązanie do ogólnopolskich badań społecznych poświęconych tematyce najważniejszych wartości Polaków. Trzeci i ostatni rozdział dotyczy jakościowych badań własnych autora niniejszej pracy. Przedstawione w nim zostały hipotezy i metodologia badań jak również ich wyniki. Dokonując analizy jakościowej reklam telewizyjnych pod kątem występowania w nich nawiązań do wyznawanych przez Polaków wartości, autor starał się dowieść prawdziwości hipotezy o tym, że najważniejsze zdaniem Polaków wartości są eksponowane w przekazie reklamowym. Hipoteza ta w toku analiz została zweryfikowana pozytywnie.
The following MA thesis addresses the issue of referring to values recognised by society in television commercials. The key assumption is that advertisement, in order to arise in mind of potential consumer, may relate in its message to issues relevant to human-consumer, which in this paper were considered as social values. The first chapter of the following paper presents various views on the advertising issue and adopted model of emergence of significance structures in human’s consciousness. In the second chapter two approaches to social values were presented: psychological and sociological approach. Second chapter also includes reference to nationwide research concerning values considered by Poles as the most important. The third, and the last as well, chapter concerns author’s own qualitative study. Hypothesis and research methodology were presented here, as well as their results. By making a qualitative analysis of television commercials for the presence of values espoused by Poles the author tried to prove his hypothesis that most Poles believe the values are exhibited in the advertisement. Presented hypothesis was verified in the course of analysis.
