Opis:: Studying the human spiritual sphere presents numerous methodological problems. So far, it has been much easier to study religiousness, which has more unambiguous documented behavioral indicators. However, researchers do make attempts to investigate the spirituality phenomenon empirically. The article describes the process of constructing as well as the parameters of the Spiritual Sphere Questionnaire (KSD), developed as a result of three years of research on women and men (N = 1381). The results obtained using KSD reveal the expected positive correlations with the established measures of related phenomena – religiousness, openness to experience, etc., which may testify to the tool's high validity. The method turned out to be a tool stable in time and reliable, with four characterizing clusters: (1) State of Spiritual Sphere, (2) Dynamics of Spiritual Sphere, (3) Aspirituality, and (4) Absence of Relation With a Higher Power. KSD constitutes an effective measurement solution, especially for adults (aged above 30). Combined with the methods functioning in science, it complements the picture of spirituality with a qualitative description.

Opis:: The development of theology over the centuries of the Church’s life and activity is accomplished through publications. They express the theologians’ positions, opinions and hypotheses. Among Polish theological journals, “Collectanea Theologica”, which has its origins in Lviv (“Przegląd Teologiczny”), plays a special role. Though it is connected with the Warsaw theological environment, it not only covers Poland but also goes beyond its borders, as evidenced by the foreign publications and foreign-language authors. Undoubtedly, this journal has become a very serious and rich source of and platform for the development of the theology of spirituality. Its existence is connected with the independence of this branch of the theology, and therefore from the beginning of its existence we find in the journal highly valuable and serious materials on spirituality.The analysis of the publications, which are the result of research conducted over a hundred years, allows us to conclude that we are dealing with an unusual and multidirectional wealth. It should be stated that the publications present an interdisciplinary nature of the research conducted. The study outlines the main directions of the development of the theology of spirituality and their documentation. It can be said that these publications reflect theological trends in the universal Church. Both the documents of the Church and of the popes as well as the events became an inspiration for the authors. Historical, social and even political events were not without their significance and influence. Of particular importance is the development of native Polish theology, having its own specificity and contributing richly to the life of the whole universal Church. We define such a achievement as the “Polish school of spirituality”.

Opis:: This paper comprises part of the current research on the phenomenon of new spirituality, conducted within the sociology of religion and social communication and media sciences. It aims to analyze selected manifestations of the new spirituality entering into the religious sphere of a religiously homogeneous society based on the example of Poland. A complementary application of quantitative and qualitative methods was proposed. The subject of the analysis is the results of a representative survey in which Poles define themselves in terms of religiosity and spirituality, with examples of their search for content on a new spirituality through online resources using the assumptions of the theory of social representations. The above concept resulted in the bipartite structure of the main part of the article. It was preceded by a theoretical introduction synthetically presenting phenomena identified as key features of new spirituality and ended with a discussion of the results and conclusions. The analyses indicate that, in Polish society, the category of phenomena and processes classified as new spirituality is distinguishable but complex and diverse. In the subsequent stages of the analysis, their socio-demographic determinants were shown, and then the media representations of the new spirituality were identified, categorized, and put into typologies.

Opis:: The article presents the spirituality of Dorothy Day. It is a result of an analysis of her publications, that is books and articles in different magazines, above all “The Catholic Worker”. Dorothy Day is a Servant of God, whose Canonization Process gives hope that one day she can be presented to the entire Church as an example of lay spirituality. The author investigates and presents an analysis of the sources of spiritual concepts in the shape of people and publications which had the most influence on the candidate for the honor of sainthood. These sources, in a spiritual aspect, form the foundation of manifold schools of spirituality which Dorothy dealt with.

Opis:: Określenie granic zjawiska duchowości jest zadaniem trudnym. Historia badań na ten temat wskazuje, że duchowość to nie tylko poszukiwanie świętości, nie tylko religia czy wierzenia, ale znacznie bardziej skomplikowany konstrukt. Badania prowadzone w ramach poszczególnych nurtów psychologii ukazują, z jak różnych perspektyw można duchowość rozpatrywać. Najwyraźniej wyodrębniają się trzy stanowiska – traktujące duchowość jako: (1) postawę, (2) wymiar osobowości oraz (3) schemat poznawczy. Aby sprawdzić zasadność tych ujęć, podjęto próbę weryfikacji pierwszego z powyższych podejść/hipotez, zakładającego, że duchowość to postawa wobec życia. W tym celu przebadano 200 studentów uczelni o różnych profilach zainteresowań (humanistycznych, nauk ścisłych i artystycznych), w którym zadano pytanie o to, czym jest duchowość w ogóle (szerokie społeczno-kulturalne znaczenie) oraz dla nich samych (znaczenie osobiste), a także czym są duchowe dążenia. Z badań tych wynika, że pojmowanie duchowości jest bardzo zróżnicowane w zależności od typu zainteresowań. Ponadto w wypowiedziach osób badanych można wyróżnić trzy podstawowe formalne składniki duchowości: poznawczy, emocjonalny i behawioralny.
Delimitation of spirituality phenomenon is very difficult task. Young history of researching this phenomena shows the spirituality as not only seeking for sacred, not only religion or beliefs, but much more complicated construct. The body of many research from different fields of psychology shows different points of view and perspectives in which spirituality may be investigated. There are three visible approaches which treat spirituality as: 1) life attitude, 2) dimension of personality and 3) cognitive schema. The first of above standpoint/hypothesis was tested. Objectives (N = 200) were young people, students of the universities and academies of different interests: humanistic, exact science and artistic. They were asked what the spirituality generally is (broad social/cultural meaning), especially for them (personal meaning) and what spiritual strivings are. The results showed very differentiated understanding of spirituality depending on particular interests and the three formal components of it: cognitive, emotional and behavioral one.

Opis:: The notion of “spirituality” is very popular in the contemporary times and therethrough is an ambiguous. The abundant literature of the object presents different conceptions of the spirituality, so we can qualify them as a “new spirituality”. The atheistic spirituality (or the spirituality without God) and the psychology of spirituality are the most distinguishes among them. The common feature of them is to base on written in human nature the ability to a transcendency. Also Karol Wojtyła in that ability to the autotranscendency sees the essence of spirituality, which manifests oneself in wide understanding of the culture and of the civilization. The author of the article proposes to name this basic form of spirituality which has its source in human nature the anthropogenical spirituality. If the ability to autotranscendency has a soteriological direction, it becomes then the religious spirituality. The Christian spirituality is her special form by virtue of the supernatural factor. Because its character is “from above”, it is not reducible to other form of spirituality. Contained in the last part of the article the methodological proposal admits to solve, from one side, the possible tension between different symptoms of the “new spirituality”, especially the spirituality without God, and the Christian spirituality. From the second side, it forbids to put an equals sign between them. On the background of different symptoms of “the new spirituality” and the psychology of spirituality, the Christian spirituality appears as a particularly remarkable the proposal of the transcendency and of the fulfilling of the human spirit.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to present the mutual relationships between the liturgy and Christian spirituality and mysticism based on the paradigm that the liturgy is the source and summit of the Christian spiritual life. Starting from the Council’s and Catechism’s definition of liturgy and showing against this background its close relationship with Christian spirituality and mysticism, the author concludes that it is in liturgical spirituality that the organic synthesis of the triad liturgy-spirituality-mysticism is most intensely visible. Liturgy is the source of faith, and it is an event in which God comes, speaks and acts. Christian spirituality and mysticism becomes the fruit of faith rooted in the soil of grace given in the liturgy. The development of the spiritual life is implanted in Christ in the liturgy, implanted in the Eucharist, which is the greatest gift and special good of the whole Church. After spirituality, mysticism appears as its consequence, which by its very nature demands liturgy, since it is nourished by the experienced and contemplated mystery. Liturgy, on the other hand, gains spiritual deepening through mysticism, because mysticism understood as the experience of the mystery proclaimed, celebrated, assimilated and lived leads to a gradual mystical union of the person of the faithful with the venerable person of Jesus Christ and makes it easier for the spirit of prayer rooted in the dynamic mystery of the Present Lord to be incarnated in daily life.

Nie czyni to w punkcie wyjścia z człowieka – prezbitera, biskupa świętego a raczej w doświadczeniu grzechu i słabości wprowadza na drogę nawrócenia i przemiany życia w kierunku ostatecznego zjednoczenia się z Bogiem w Jezusie Chrystusie. Stąd właśnie echo osobistego doświadczenia duchowego Roncallego w jego apostolskim posługiwaniu. Niniejsze studium jest próbą ukazania tej części nauczania św. Jana XXIII, która zawarta jest w encyklikach z odniesieniem jej do jego duchowości poznawanej w osobistych pismach.
