Opis:
One of the tasks of central and local administration units is standing up for the sustainable development on their respective territories. Public authorities ought to use all available resources and means to satisfy the needs of the present generation in a way which will not disturb the satisfaction of needs of the generations to come. The aim of the paper is to present a selection of ratios for sustainable development in Poland which reflect the living conditions of the Polish citizens in the context of assumptions and objectives adopted in the UN 2030 Agenda.

W artykule przedstawiono założenia przyjęte w pracach nad zestawem wskaźników zrównoważonego rozwoju, kryteria doboru wskaźników, koncepcję ich grupowania według ładów i dziedzin oraz informacje w zakresie Bazy Wskaźników Zrównoważonego Rozwoju jako narzędzia służącego do udostępniania i prezentacji mierników. Materiał zawiera zaktualizowany zestaw wskaźników zrównoważonego rozwoju Polski. W artykule zaprezentowano także zarys przyszłych prac dotyczących monitorowania zrównoważonego rozwoju kraju.
The paper presents the assumptions used in work on a set of sustainable development indicators, criteria for the selection of indicators, and the adopted concept of their grouping by domains and areas, as well as information concerning Sustainable Development Indicators Database as a tool for sharing and presentation of indicators. The material includes an updated set of sustainable development indicators for Poland. The author also offers an outline of future work on monitoring the sustainable development of the country.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present selected German solutions in the field of education for sustainable development and an attempt to assess the possibility of their implementation in Poland. The starting point of the considerations is the conviction that successful social and ecological transformation is only possible through cooperation between nations, business and society, and education. Among other things, the decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court and the position of the German Council for Sustainable Development postulating an innovation policy were presented. The analyses presented led to a conclusion regarding the partial possibility of implementing German solutions in the field of sustainable development in Poland. The specificity of individual countries and societies and the consideration of their characteristic values in the planning of educational activities must not be forgotten.

Opis:
The article is a report from the fieldwork carried out in a Bedouin village of Qasr al-Sir in the Negev in Israel. The aim of the realized research field project was to critically analyze the sustainable development programs which have been implemented in the village by Bustan – a non-governmental organization from Be’er Sheva. In the first section of the paper’s main body there is a description of historical, cultural, social and economic aspects of the current situation of the Bedouins living in the region. The second part focuses solely on the village where the research was carried out, i.e. Qasr al-Sir. It is followed by a section providing a report on Bustan’s activities in the village. The forth section consists of descriptions of five sustainable development programs, which have been implemented in the Bedouin community, i.e. PermaNegev, Negev Unplugged Tours, Eco Khan, empowering of Bedouin women, and teaching English. The article is concluded with a sketch of problems stemming from the cultural differences between Bedouins and Bustan’s westerners, which may be held responsible for delays or failures in implementation of the planned programs.

Sustainable development activities in chemical companies in Poland : links between SDGs and ESG

Purpose: The main aim of the article is to explore sustainable development activities undertaken by the chemical companies in Poland. Three research objectives were established: (1) identification of key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for chemical companies, (2) identification of activities related to each of the three ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) elements in chemical companies, and (3) linking specific SDGs and ESG elements in the case of the chemical industry. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the aim of the article, the content analysis was used. Documents of chemical companies regarding sustainable development were analyzed, i.e. strategies, policies and reports. Findings: Firstly, the analysis of strategies and policies allowed to identify 13 key SDGs for the Polish chemical companies. Secondly, analysis of the reports, allowed the discovery of numerous activities of the chemical companies in the environmental, social and governance areas. Finally, the links between specific SDGs and ESG elements in the chemical sector were presented. Practical implications: The paper contributes to the better understanding of the chemical companies’ sustainable development activities. In terms of practical implications, the results could guide chemical companies in the development of their ESG strategies. Originality/value: The review of the literature has shown that problems such as SDGs and ESG in the context of the chemical industry have rarely been addressed so far. The links between SDGs and ESG in the chemical industry have also not been studied. To the best knowledge of the author, this is one of the first known studies to investigate the SDGs and ESG issues in chemical companies in Poland. The article is intended for researchers and practitioners interested in the sustainable development issues.

Theoretical background: The article discusses the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development (SD). This is a specific development, which considers the needs of future generations. These activities may concern environmental, social or economic issues. The identified knowledge gap refers to the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to evaluate the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development. The described issues include: the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Research methods: The empirical material was obtained from 13 individual in-depth interviews conducted by telephone in 2018.Main findings: The analysed organizations implemented mainly social, but also ecological projects. By the implementation of projects, they cooperated mainly with NGO-partners, but only if it was necessary (e.g. if the NGO had more knowledge and experience in a specific field). Most of the projects were based on the active participation of employees in the form of volunteering; such projects had the most positive effects for the project’s goals, but also for the employees and the company. Hence, companies willingly motivated employees to participate in such projects not only by informational and organizational support, but also through various methods of distinguishing employees (e.g. volunteering gala, cup of coffee with the CEO). Companies see considerable benefits in such projects for themselves and for the staff. The perceived disadvantages are few, and in any case they can be minimized and are fully discounted by the potential benefits.

The importance of transport for sustainable development has become significant at the UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro as early as 1992. In the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which contains a total of 17 sustainability goals, sustainable transport has been anchored as a cross-cutting theme. In particular, emissions associated with transport are a problem for the sustainable development goals and have to be reduced. The objective of this paper is to analyze transport-related indicators in relation to sustainable development in the period from 2005 to 2016 at the national level. The method of secondary analysis is used. The results demonstrate only one indicator corresponding to the goal of sustainable development. However, two indicators do not correspond to a sustainable development in the considered period. Thus, appropriate measures have become necessary for these particular facts promoting a sustainable development.
