    The first chapter includes a short Antonio Tabucchi`s biography, description of the beginning of his writing career and main topics of his works. It is also about his meeting with Fernando Pessoa`s literary production, fascination of Tabucchi about Pessoa`s works and how it is influenced on Italian writer`s works. The second chapter includes analysis of certain Tabucchi`s works focusing on notion “reves”. It begins with the analysis of Gioco del rovesio as a key to interpretation Tabucchi`s works. There are subsections about “reves” as a game and mirror. The third chapter continues the analysis of “reves”, this time as a mystery. There are subsections about “saudade”, games with time, dreams and journey as a quest of ourselves. The fourth chapter summarize the analysis to prove relations between Pessoa`s and Tabucchi`s works. At the end there is a hypothesis of the possible Tabucchi`s literary production if he hadn`t been know Pessoa`s works.
    Pierwszy rozdział pracy zawiera krótką biografię Antonia Tabucchiego, traktuje też o jego początkach jako pisarza, głównych motywach dzieł oraz recepcji jego twórczości. Omówione zostały też jego zetknięcie się z twórczością Fernanda Pessoi, początek fascynacji Tabucchiego jego twórczością oraz jaki wpływ miało to na produkcję literacką włoskiego pisarza. Drugi rozdział to analiza poszczególnych dzieł Tabucchiego przez pryzmat pojęcia revés. Rozpoczyna się definicją pojęcia na podstawie opowiadania Słów na opak, następnie przedstawiona jest analiza dzieł podzielona na podrozdziały poświęcone revés jako gry oraz roli lustra w twórczości Tabucchiego. Trzeci rozdział to dalsza analiza motywu revés, tym razem jako tajemnicy. Omówione zostały tu pojęcie saudade, zabawy z czasem, rola snu oraz podróż w poszukiwaniu własnej tożsamości. Czwarty rozdział podsumowuje powyższą analizę, aby wykazać znaczenie i wpływ twórczości Pessoi na produkcję literacką Tabucchiego. Pracę kończą rozważania na temat ewentualnego rozwoju Taucchiego jako pisarza w innym kierunku niż inspiracja twórczością Fernanda Pessoi.

    The aim of this paper is to analyse and comment on the meaning of Portugal in three novels of the Italian writer: Requiem: Un’allucinazione, Sostiene Pereira, and La testa perduta di Damesceno Monteiro. The author of the paper demonstrates how Tabucchi uses the image of Portugal to discuss the ethical dimension of three issues: language, the individual vs. the state, and literature vs. law.

    Opis:
    Antonio Tabucchi is one of the most representative authors of contemporary Italian literature. His output includes a short story for children entitled Isabella e l’ombra, which was illustrated by Isabella Staino and to whom the story is dedicated. Instead of relying on words to write short texts at school, the main character, a little girl named Isabella, uses colours and explains their chromatic compositions to the teacher. Undoubtedly, the writer’s pedagogical intention behind this story is for young readers to understand that literary expression does not occur only by writing but also through images and colours that can transmit as many emotions as written texts do. Moreover, the text, which can be considered a Bildungsroman for children, touches upon some topics visible in other novels and stories by Tabucchi. This paper aims to analyse the way in which Tabucchi shares some of his existential ideas with a non-adult audience, particularly regarding the relationship between various forms of language, the symbolism of colours, the power of visual communication, and the importance of such feelings as sadness, affection, and generosity.
    Antonio Tabucchi è uno degli scrittori più rappresentativi della letteratura italiana contemporanea. Nella sua vasta produzione letteraria trova posto anche un breve racconto per l’infanzia, Isabella e l’ombra, accompagnato da una serie di illustrazioni eseguite dalla pittrice Isabella Staino, a cui il racconto è dedicato. La protagonista, una bambina di nome Isabella, invece di usare le parole per scrivere i propri pensierini a scuola usa i colori, in tutte le loro diverse tonalità, e spiega le sue composizioni cromatiche ad una maestra perplessa ed impressionata. È indubbio che con questo racconto lo scrittore intenda insegnare ai suoi piccoli lettori che l’espressione letteraria non avviene solamente attraverso la scrittura, ma può realizzarsi anche attraverso le immagini e i colori, i quali trasmettono emozioni quanto e forse più di un testo scritto. Inoltre il testo, che può essere definito un romanzo di formazione rivolto ai bambini, tocca tutte le tematiche dei grandi romanzi e racconti tabucchiani. In questo articolo si vuole analizzare il modo in cui Tabucchi intende trasmettere alcune delle sue idee esistenziali ad un pubblico non adulto, in particolar modo in relazione al rapporto tra le varie forme di linguaggio, alla simbologia dei colori, alla potenza della comunicazione visiva e all’importanza di alcuni sentimenti come la tristezza, l’affetto e la generosità.

    In Per Isabel. Un Mandala Tabucchi ha completato la trilogia del tema dell’inquietudine, del rimorso e della riflessione dei moderni insieme a Requiem e Notturno Indiano, interiorizzando i contenuti orientali in maniera più capillare e proponendo singolari combinazioni con la filosofia occidentale, nonché inedite soluzioni esistenziali e letterarie. In Per Isabel. un Mandala la riflessione di Tabucchi si concentra sui personaggi che si confrontano con il dolore interiore cercando la verità attraverso la quale si può essere ‘guariti’ da tale sofferenza ontologica. Ma dal momento che un tale percorso avviene all’interno di uno spazio letterario, appare indispensabile, secondo Tabucchi, che i lettori, per attingere alla verità nascosta – ossia per affrontare il vero Sé – intraprendano, all’interno del testo narrativo, un vero e proprio viaggio, la cui meta sarà il conseguimento del Nirvana. Ecco dunque che in quest’ottica anche le opere di Tabucchi possono essere lette come un Mandala, ovvero una sorta di mappa concettuale e letteraria offerta ai lettori come guida all’illuminazione.
    Dziełem Per Isabel. Un Mandala kończy Tabucchi trylogię poświęconą tematyce niepokoju, wyparcia i refleksji nad nowoczesnością, której dwie poprzednie części to Requiem i Notturno indiano. Treści orientalne ujęte są w nim w sposób bardziej aluzyjny i subtelny, w oryginalnym stylu przedstawiony jest też ich związek z filozofią zachodnią, całość zaś prezentuje niespotykane dotychczas rozwiązania literackie i wątki egzystencjalne. W Per Isabel. Un Mandala Tabucchi koncentruje się na bohaterach, którzy konfrontują się z wewnętrznym bólem poszukując prawdy, będącej w stanie wyleczyć ich z egzystencjalnego cierpienia. Z uwagi jednak na fakt, iż poszukiwanie to ma miejsce w przestrzeni literackiej niezbędnym okazuje się, by czytelnicy, chcący dostąpić ukrytej prawdy, również odbyli narracyjną podróż, której celem jest osiągnięcie Nirwany. W tej właśnie perspektywie dzieła Tabucchiego można odczytywać jako mandalę, swego rodzaju literacką mapę oferowaną czytelnikowi jako przewodnik ku oświeceniu.

    Sitting face to face in a café in Lahore are two men, a Pakistani and an American. Although they are talking, only the first one can be heard: Changez, the narrator, engages us and his captive audience, the cautious foreigner, in a monologue unfolding in real time for the rest of the meeting and for the rest of the book. The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007) by Mohsin Hamid is a novel written in the form of dramatic monologue, yet what it really shows is a hidden dialogue which takes place on several levels. It may be said that the two men in polite, yet tense, conversation symbolise the ambiguous post-9/11 relationship between the two cultures broadly referred to as the East and the West, the Muslim world and America. What can be concluded about this exchange from the perspective of Hamid, a Pakistani English-language writer educated in America? What is the power relation between his two characters? What is the effect of the formal technique he employed and how does it correspond with Western literary tradition? The paper focuses on these questions, examining another dialogue between The Reluctant Fundamentalist and two works by renowned European authors, Antonio Tabucchi and Albert Camus.
