Opis:: The article describes the transformation of the idea of university education from medieval to modern times. From a historical perspective factors have been presented which influenced changes in teaching approaches at universities. This article presents contemporary social and ideological factors that affect the functioning of the university model. In the final section the author presents his own typology for contemporary models of university teaching.

Opis:: The Act on Higher Education and Science of 2018 considerably restricts the internal autonomy of universities. Management is vested in rectors and university boards while neglecting the role of faculties, which, if established in the first place, have been reduced to entities of no significance. The rector, as the exclusive managerial body of an institution, and the university board, representing mainly external stakeholders, as a body supervising its economy, have been vested with such an ex-tensive authority that this may result in hindering the development of multiple academic disciplines, especially those in the area of the humanities, but also in the field of social studies in many cases.

Opis:: University – both in the Middle Ages and today – has been a part of the society and was prone to processes similar to the societal ones, which determined its functioning. Last decades rapidly accelerated the discussions about contemporary higher education institutions. The aim of the article is to indicate the expectancies towards the university expressed by individuals and social groups, as well as by the state. A contemporary state does not need engaged citizens, it needs competent users of an institution, which radically changes the expectancies towards university. It is often acknowledged that the university should equip students not with general knowledge, but specific skills enabling them to function in social life. It is contrary to the idea of general education, in which not only knowledge, but also specific cultural dispositions: openness to otherness, negotiation skills and respect towards other worldviews are crucial. The article calls to traditional university values and describes how their perception has changed in the contemporary university.

Opis:: The problem of the article concerns the development of education services at a higher level. In the first part the author discusses the basic models of higher education institutions in the US and Europe, noting the role of the market, government and academic environment. In the second part the author analyses the influence of contemporary economic, market and society conditions on the model of education at a higher level in Poland at the turn of the 20th century. Considerations are conducted on the basis of national and foreign literature sources, available reports and statistical publications. The last part contains reflections on the future of the higher education sector in Poland.

The Author discusses the relevance of the university education model proposed by Wilhelm von Humboldt from the perspective of today’s universities. When discussing the concept developed by the Prussian education minister, the Author asks if today’s life offers room for the university education model based on the concept of partnership-based community of students and teachers who seek answers to all questions preoccupying contemporary researchers and do so in a free, unrestrained and disinterested manner. Under this model, the problem of applicability of knowledge is pushed to the background whereas interdisciplinary nature of intellectual quest and of new knowledge prevails.

The author attempts to diagnose autonomisation as an organisational pathology of public higher education institutions in Poland which results from the erosion of academic ethos and poorer efficiency of higher education institutions as entities with a potential for opposition. He criticises the entrepreneurial university model in view of the dangers of further autonomisation that implementation of such a model may entail. The analysis draws on the concept of organisational pathologies, which enables a multi-faceted examination of the problem.

Zaprezentowana została także próba odzwierciedlenia jednolitego modelu zarządzania uniwersytetem, z wyróżnieniem proponowanych dobrych praktyk oraz nowoczesnego podejścia do zarządzania i przywództwa edukacyjnego.
The aim of this study is to answer the questions about the role that universities should fill in the 21st century and how to manage institutions to achieve this goal. The paper presents the techniques and management methods used so far at the Jagiellonian University and the University of Helsinki, which are the basis of deliberations on this subject. An attempt to reflect a unified model of university management was also presented, highlighting the proposed good practices and a modern approach to management and educational leadership.

The article aims at presenting the transformation of universities from the classic model through the entrepreneurial university to a knowledge-based organisation. The first part introduces the historical background which is crucial in Author’s opinion as it allows the reader to realise the complexity of factors which shaped the evolution of modern universities. In the second part, looking into the future of universities, the Author discusses Burton R. Clark’s model of entrepreneurial university, identifying threats in implementation of this interesting concept. The third part describes the modern university as a knowledge-based organisation. The Author attempts to demonstrate that the university of the future will undergo significant changes in terms of organisation, organisational culture and technologies which will call for difficult decisions and, most likely, sufficient time to implement.

Opis:: Pierwsze lata powojennej historii Polski były czasem przełomowym, czasem niepewności i nadziei na nowe społeczeństwo. Wielu intelektualistów wierzyło w unikalną szansę na zmiany i budowę lepszego świata, w tym budowę nowoczesnego uniwersytetu. Tradycje międzywojennej akademii starły się z ideami tworzenia uczelni nowego typu – modernizacyjne sny przybierały różne formy, konfrontując środowiska bardziej radykalne z umiarkowanymi. Wkrótce uniwersytety zostały przekształcone w miejsca istotne dla władz, gdzie tworzono nową wykładnię historii, zaplecze ideologiczne Partii i nową elitę kraju.W niniejszej pracy koncentrujemy się na postaciach Józefa Chałasińskiego i Tadeusza Kotarbińskiego, których drogi zbiegły się w 1945 roku w robotniczej Łodzi – miejscu budowy nowego uniwersytetu na nowe czasy. Analizując ich wypowiedzi prasowe, przemówienia i artykuły naukowe rekonstruujemy modele uniwersytetów, mające stanowić propozycje ukształtowania nowej uczelni w zmieniających się ramach polityczno-społecznych.
First postwar years in the history of Poland was crucial time of doubts and hopes for building a new world and a new society. It is worth remembering, that in the first years it was not known how the history of Poland is going to be shaped and many intellectuals believed to have an unique chance to make a world better place. The interwar academic tradition was confronted with ideas of building a new type of university – the modernization dreams took many forms, occurring to be strong factor of a split between radical and moderate option. Soon those dreams have met with brutal reality and universities were transformed to important places in communist state, where national history, ideology and future elite was reproduced and shaped.We would like to focus on personalities of Józef Chałasiński and Tadeusz Kotarbiński, whose biographies met in the city of Lodz in 1945 – the place where new university was being built for the new times. Analyzing press materials, official statements and scientific papers we aim to reconstruct models of university – models as propositions of creating a new academia in a changing sociopolitical frames.

Opis:: The aim of this study was to describe the problematic aspects and condictions of effectice communication between public and private universities and their students. The introduction contains theoretical basis about higher education and the profiles of public and private universities. The following chapter discusses in detail issues related to communication, as well as the role of communication in society and ways of communication between students and the university. The third part is entirely dedicated to charactersitic of the chosen institutions. The closing chapter of this paper is an analysis of empirical research, which portrays the conditions of effective communication and barriers of communication in chosen organisations. The survey was also used as a basis to create a common model of communication for both types of universities.
Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie problematyki komunikacji uczelni publicznych i niepublicznych ze studentami oraz zbadanie poziomu jej skuteczności.Praca zawiera teoretyczne podstawy z zakresu szkolnictwa wyższego oraz specyfikę funkcjonowania uczelni publicznych i niepublicznych. Następnie omawiane są zagadnienia związane z komunikacją, ze szczególnym naciskiem na jej rolę w społeczeństwie oraz sposoby komunikacji między uczelnią a studentem. Trzeci rozdział poświęcony został na charakterystykę badanych szkół wyższych, wraz z opisem narzędzi komunikacyjnych które stosują. Ostatnia część pracy to analiza wyników badań empirycznych, dzięki którym przedstawione zostały bariery i warunki skuteczności komunikacji badanych instytucji. Uzyskane rezultaty pozwoliły także na stworzenie wspólnego modelu komunikacji dla obu uczelni.

Opis:: The article presents essential reservations about the proposal and the adopted Act 2.0 vel Constitution for Science. It focuses on the analysis of two topics: model of university and model of evaluation of journals and books. Our analysis is made in the light of knowledge of integrated sciences of science (containing, i.a., history of science, history of organization of higher education system and science, scientometrics and bibliometrics) and a model of university of new humanism.The article calls for introduction of series of vital modifications in the analyzed Act 2.0 and implementing regulations to remedy their fundamental drawbacks.
Artykuł przedstawia zasadnicze zastrzeżenia wobec projektu i uchwalonej Ustawy 2.0 vel Konstytucji dla nauki i skupia się na analizie dwóch zagadnień: modelu uniwersytetu oraz modelu ewaluacji czasopism i książek. Analiza ta jest rozwijana w świetle wiedzy z zakresu zintegrowanego naukoznawstwa (w skład którego wchodzi m.in. historia nauki, historia organizacji szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki oraz naukometria i bibliometria) i modelu uniwersytetu nowego humanizmu.Artykuł postuluje wprowadzenie szeregu istotnych modyfikacji treści Ustawy 2.0 i rozporządzeń wykonawczych, aby zaradzić ich podstawowym wadom.

Opis:: This paper presents examples of mathematical models which have almost passed into oblivion, yet a few decades ago still played a significant role in the teaching of mathematics. In the late nineteenth century such devices started to be produced on a large scale for schools and universities. The Jagiellonian University Museum has three such models in perfect condition in its collections.
W artykule podajemy przykłady modeli matematycznych, obecnie niemal zapomnianych, które jeszcze kilkadziesiąt lat temu odgrywały wielką rolę w dydaktyce matematyki. Z końcem XIX wieku powstała prężna produkcja tych modeli na użytek szkół i uczelni. W Muzeum UJ zachowały się w doskonałym stanie trzy takie modele.

Opis:: The presented material is a concise report of the research on the ‘condition’ of initial teacher education provided at universities in Poland in accordance with ‘new’ Ministry standards of 17 January 2012. In the analysis of data collected from 30 universities in May 2015, we focused on models of the organisation of this part of teaching at universities, the ways of constructing the professional curricula, the role and place of practice in the learning processes and the strategy of assessment of the preparation for teaching. Our research result is not quite optimistic. Under the ‘new label’ of standards we still have quasi-traditional approach to initial teacher education. In acquiring the new professional competencies students do not get real support from their academic and school partners. They are not very interesting in building opportunities for transforming learning aiming at transforming teaching.

Opis:: As a result of interaction of many factors, the conditions of academic institutions have changed significantly over the last decades. Globalization and internationalization, demographic and economic challenges, as well as growing international competition between universities causes these institutions to take up new functions, restructure and change their character. Top universities respond to the changing context by developing new strategic solutions aiming at sustaining and strengthening their high position in international rankings. Some of the strategic solutions are similar for most universities, but some are unique and specific. The aim of this article is to identify latest trends in strategic management of top universities and present selected case studies to illustrate the most interesting solutions.
W wyniku nałożenia się wielu czynników uwarunkowania funkcjonowania szkół wyższych w ostatnich dekadach uległy znaczącej zmianie. Procesy globalizacji i internacjonalizacji, czynniki związane z gospodarką i demografią oraz rosnąca konkurencja uczelni powodują, że instytucje te zaczynają pełnić więcej funkcji, zmieniają swoją strukturę i charakter. Czołowe światowe uczelnie odpowiadają na zmieniający się kontekst, tworząc nowe rozwiązania strategiczne, które mają na celu utrzymanie i wzmocnienie ich wysokiej pozycji w światowych rankingach. Część rozwiązań ma charakter uniwersalny, a niektóre są specyficzne dla poszczególnych typów uczelni. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja najnowszych trendów w zarządzaniu strategicznym stosowanym przez władze czołowych szkół wyższych i omówienie poszczególnych rozwiązań na konkretnych przykładach.

Opis:: Artykuł porusza problematykę obecności zagadnień misjologicznych w stuletniej historii Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II, zwłaszcza w Instytucie Teologii Fundamentalnej. W pierwszej części autor przedstawia jej kontekst społeczny i eklezjalny oraz etapy i sposoby obecności na uczelni. W części drugiej omawia najważniejsze osiągnięcia. W podsumowaniu postuluje się dalszy jej rozwój poprzez opracowanie oraz wydanie dokumentów papieskich na temat misji i polskiego podręcznika misjologii.
The article discusses the question of the presence of missiological issues in the history of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, especially at the Institute of Fundamental Theology. In the first part, the author presents its social and ecclesial context, as well as its stages and methods of presence at the university. In the second part, it gives the main missiological achievements. In con- clusion, it is suggested the need of the further development of the missiology in the near future by elaborating and publishing of papal documents on the mission and of the Polish handbook of missiology.

Opis:: 1. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie sytuacji osób niepełnosprawnych w uniwersytecie w XXI wieku na wybranych przykładach. 2. Metodologia. Autor posłużył się historiograficzną metodą analizy dokumentu oraz obserwacją. 3. Główne wyniki analizy. Autor ukazuje następujące problemy: niepełnosprawni a uniwersytet (kontekst mistrza), Uczelniane Biuro do spraw Osób Niepełnosprawnych, edukacyjną i zawodową aktywność osób niepełnosprawnych, dwa modele niepełnosprawności (medyczny oraz interaktywny). W artykule przedstawiono także problem niepełnosprawnych w kontekście kategorii takich jak społeczność, państwo, kultura, cywilizacja. Autor pokazuje kształtowanie u studentów postaw altruistycznych wobec osób niepełnosprawnych oraz wsparcie edukacyjne osób niepełnosprawnych na studiach. Artykuł porusza kwestię sytuacji niepełnosprawnych słuchowo w szkole wyższej (metodyka pracy z takimi studentami) oraz niewidomych w kontekście kultury wizualnej w uniwersytecie. Autor opisał pewne problemy sumienia i niepełnosprawnych w uniwersytecie. 4. Ograniczenia wyników analizy. Artykuł może być przyczynkiem do dyskusji nad miejscem osób niepełnosprawnych w uniwersytecie. Ograniczenia dotyczą odniesienia do uniwersytetu. 5. Implikacje praktyczne. Artykuł pokazuje źródłowo i na przykładach sytuacje osób niepełnosprawnych w uniwersytecie w kontekście kulturowym oraz możliwości pomocy, wsparcia.
1. The goal of this article is to present the situation of disabled persons at the university in the 21st century on the basis of selected examples. 2. Methodology. The author used the historiographical method for the analysis of document and observation. 3. The main results of analysis. The author presents the following issues: disabled persons and the university (masters context), The University Office for Disabled Persons, educational and professional activities of disabled persons, and two models of disabilities (medical and interactive). The author also shows the problem of disability in the context of such categories as: society, state, culture, and civilization. The author discusses the formation of altruistic attitudes towards disabled persons and educational assistance for them at the university when they are studying. The article examines issues surrounding hearing-impaired persons at the university (methods of working with such students) and the blind within the context of visual culture at the university. The author presents some problems of conscience and disabled persons at the university. 4. Limitations of results of analysis. This article is a contribution to discussions of the place of disabled persons at the university. Limitations concern relations to the university. 5. Practical implications. The results of the analysis may be used in these discussions as an argument for the change of situation of disabled at the university. 6. Social implications. The results of analysis may be related to the group of disabled students at the university. 7. The originality of the article (new value, novelty). The paper is based on original sources and on situations of disabled students at the university in the context of culture and possibilities of help.

Opis:: W pracy magisterskiej podjęte zostały zagadnienia związane z konstruowaniem wizji przyszłości przyszłych absolwentów (studentów ostatniego roku studiów II stopnia). Konstruowane wizje, mają charakter marzeń, planów na przyszłość. Zostały one zestawione z historiami, które już się wydarzyły, czyli z historiami absolwentów.Praca została podzielona na trzy główne rozdziały. W pierwszym rozdziale nakreślone zostało tło teoretyczne, drugi dotyczy zagadnień metodologicznych, w trzecim prezentuję analizy zgromadzonego przeze mnie materiału. W podsumowaniu przedstawiono rekomendacje zarówno dla przyszłych studentów kierunków społecznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie, jak i dla absolwentów socjologii tej uczelni.Zaprojektowane badania opierają się o paradygmat konstruktywistyczny. W pracy przyjęto, że rzeczywistość społeczna jest konstruowana. Dla wyjaśnienia postawionego zagadnienia konieczne jest wyjaśnienia takich zagadnień, jak: rzeczywistość konstruowana, biografia konstruowana, nowoczesność i ponowoczesność, cztery wzory osobowości ponowoczesnej, konsumpcja, indywidualizm, style życia, rodzina oraz praca. . Przeprowadzone badania to z jednej strony wywiady swobodne z studentami ostatniego roku socjologii II stopnia, z drugiej, analiza wypowiedzi /wywiadów (dane zastane) absolwentów, które znajdują się na stronie internetowej Instytutu Socjologii Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie i mają za zadanie budowanie narracji wokół studiów w IS UJ. Badania zatem mają charakter case studies – koncentruje się na konkretnym przypadku. W pracy przeanalizowane zostały historie studentów i absolwentów IS UJ. Dla pełniejszego obrazu wykorzystano również dane ilościowe dotyczące kwestii rekrutacji na studia II stopnia z ostatnich pięciu lat akademickich.
In the master's thesis, issues related to constructing the vision of the future of future graduates (students of the last year of second-degree studies) were taken up. Constructed visions have the character of dreams and plans for the future. They have been compared with stories that have already happened, i.e. with the stories of graduates.The work was divided into three main chapters. The first chapter outlines the theoretical background, the second deals with methodological issues, the third presents the analysis of the material collected by me. The summary presents recommendations for future students of social studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, as well as for sociology graduates of this university.Designed research is based on the constructivist paradigm. It was assumed in the work that social reality is constructed. To clarify the issue, it is necessary to clarify issues such as: constructed reality, constructed biography, modernity and postmodernity, four models of postmodern personality, consumption, individualism, lifestyles, family and work. . The conducted research is on the one hand free interviews with the final year students of second degree sociology, on the other, analysis of statements / interviews (existing data) of graduates, which are located on the website of the Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and are designed to build a narrative around studies in IS UJ. Therefore, the research is case studies - it focuses on a specific case. The work analyzes the stories of students and graduates of the Jagiellonian University. For a more complete picture, quantitative data on recruitment issues for second-cycle studies from the last five academic years were also used.
