Opis:: The council defined the theological condition of separated Christians and of their churches and communities. However, the ecumenical significance of the Council pervades the whole task of renewal begun by Vatican II, as the basis for unity. The conciliar renewal was inspired by the “principle of catholicity” or capacity to integrate all that is authentically Christian into the doctrine and life of the Catholic Church. The principle of catholicity had particular application in the doctrinal and theological areas.
Sobór Watykański II określił teologiczny status podzielonych chrześcijan oraz ich Kościołów i wspólnot. Jednakże ekumeniczne znaczenie Soboru przenika całe zadanie odnowy rozpoczęte przez Sobór Watykański II, jako podstawę jedności. Soborowa odnowa była inspirowana „zasadą katolickości” lub zdolnością do zintegrowania wszystkiego, co autentycznie chrześcijańskie, z doktryną i życiem Kościoła katolickiego. Zasada katolickości miała szczególne zastosowanie w obszarach doktrynalnych i teologicznych. Niniejsze opracowanie, opierając się na wypowiedziach soborowych, ukazuje w trzech częściach te wszystkie wymiary ekumenizmu Vaticanum II, podkreślając ów podstawowy wymiar nauczania soborowego.

Opis:: This article traces a brief history of the idea of toleration inside the doctrine and the practice of the Catholic Church. The author stresses that before the Second Vatican Council the idea of toleration was accepted by the Church only conditionally and served to avoid public perturbations. This metaphysical refusal was compatible with interpretations of Thomistic and Neothomistic philosophies, which were based on the doctrine of unique truth and consequently excluded the truthfulness of other religions. The Second Vatican Council accepts the concept of religious freedom, which the author interprets as an ecclesiastical equivalent of the idea of toleration developed inside the European philosophical tradition. Particular emphasis is given to the role played by John Paul II in promoting this change of perspective inside the Church.

Opis:: The article presents the concept of the university developed in the mid-nineteenth century by Cardinal John Henry Newman. Newman believed that the university should provide pure and universal knowledge. He was against the professionalization of academic education. According to Newman, the task of universities was to “introduce to life in society” and to “adapt to the world.” This idea grew out of European optimism and a deep belief that teachers and students were part of the same intellectual community. Newman’s concept retains its value because it is rooted in the legacy of humanistic ideal of the education present in the university from very beginnings of this institution. As we know from history university was a place for gaining universal knowledge. However, disturbing cracks can be seen in this idea, which is related to the commercialization and parameterization of the education process. Both lead to deep pathologies of academic life. We see these changes not only in Poland, but also in Western Europe and the United States. After the change of the political system in 1989, Polish universities were significantly degraded and the status of an academic teacher decreased dramatically. The only remedy is to restore universities to the autonomy they deserve and to move away from attempts to politicize or ideologize them.

Opis:: Luther insisted on the royal, common or universal priesthood of all the baptised, as the Second Vatican Council also recalled, referring to the mutual complementarity between the common and ministerial priesthood, which however differ non tantum gradu sed essentiam (cf. LG 10). These pages review the main points on the common priesthood, according to Luther's proposal and the response of the Councils of Trent and Vatican II and, as a complementary counterpoint, add the teachings of a 20th century Catholic author, Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, partly before and partly after Vatican II, which could be of interest for understanding the subject under discussion. The similarities and differences are thus noted here, which are conducive to the subsequent ecumenical dialogue on this subject, which is acquiring particular importance in the context of the theology of synodality.

Opis:: There are currently emphatic appeals for increased efforts in order to include laity in vita et in missione Ecclesiae in the areas of theology and ecclesiology. They define the lay person by negation, as a person without the charism of priesthood. Could you be responsible for situations in which you did not receive the gift of grace from the Holy Spirit? Rather the possession of a charism can create the proper Christian responsibility. In other words, this negative theology of laity cannot make for an ecclesial accountability, because it does not recognize in the lay people their own gifts of grace. It does not conceptualize the mysterious connection between every believer and Holy Spirit who dwells in him and who forms an outstanding vocation of every christifideles. This charismatic presence of the Holy Spirit causes everyone to be in a position of responsibility for their own charism in Ecclesia. So, the theology of charism plays the crucial role in a theoretical and a practical repair of ecclesiastic responsibility of lay people. It had been awakened by Vatican II but was present in theology and practiced in the church at most for two or three decades after only the council.

Ma è stato soprattutto il papa benedetto Xvi ad intraprendere una vera e propria ricerca della cosiddetta via pulchritudinis. nel suo magistero ha affrontato diverse volte il tema della bellezza e dell’arte nel senso ampio del termine. Un capitolo importante in queste sue riflessioni riguardava la bellezza nel contesto liturgico, cioè la bellezza della liturgia che è in grado di mostrare la bellezza di Dio stesso. Parlando della bellezza poi, papa ratzinger, si riferiva sia a ciò che è materiale e artistico, sia alla natura, alla creazione e a Dio. Anche l’attuale pontefice francesco parla della via della bellezza che, secondo lui, può condurre al bene, a Dio ed è capace di creare la comunione interpersonale, interculturale ed interreligiosa.
The dialogue with the world of art was taken up again by Vatican II and continues to this day. The post-conciliar popes dedicated several pronouncements to artists. But it was especially Benedict XVI that put into action a real search for the via pulchritudinis. In his teaching, he showed a particular predilection for the theme of beauty, art, as well as the relationship with the various arts. An important chapter of his reflection concerns beauty in the liturgical context. According to the Pontiff, the beauty of the liturgy manifests the beauty of God who is communicated through the beauty of the Church, and also the beauty of the assembly gathered in the liturgical celebration. Speaking of beauty, according to Ratzinger, it is necessary to take into consideration both the material, artistic one and also that referring to nature, to creation, to God.

Wywody uzupełnia zwięzły opis współczesnego katolickiego podejścia do Husa, a także wskazanie, że nowe odczytanie jego postaci jest możliwe dzięki wielkiej metanoi, zapoczątkowanej w Kościele katolickim przez Vaticanum II.
The article develops the thesis of Professor Stefan Swieżawski that Jan Hus, the Czech Reformer sentenced as a heretic by the Council of Constance and in consequence burnt at the stake, can be considered as a precursor of the Second Vatican Council. After a short historical introduction there is an analysis of those ideas of Hus that were reflected in the Vatican II documents Dei verbum, Lumen gentium and Dignitatis humanae. The arguments are completed by a description of the present Catholic approach to Hus and by indicating a possible re-interpretation of his person thanks to the great metanoia launched in the Catholic Church by Vatican II.

The aim of this article is to present the current state of the synod's work on synodality and the analogies that exist between the reflections undertaken during the synod and the implementation of the achievements of the Second Vatican Council in the life of the universal Church and the local Churches. Therefore, an analysis of Cardinal Ratzinger's texts written in the era of post-conciliar change is undertaken. One of the central themes of both the 1960s and modern times is the issue of freedom and the democratisation of Church life. This leads to discussions related to the understanding of the opening of the Catholic Church to the world through universal brotherhood, the democratisation of the notion of the 'People of God' placed in opposition to the hierarchical structure of the Church, changes related to the understanding of hierarchy and offices in the Church.
