Tytuł:: Cellular automata and their selected applications in the biological sciences
Automaty komórkowe i ich wybrane zastosowania w naukach biologicznych

Opis:: The concept of cellular automata (CA) is over 70 years old, and has been increasingly used for research in various fields in recent years. The aim of this work was to analyze their applications in biological sciences. The analysis was performed on data obtained from the Web of Science database. It showed an upward trend in both the number of biology papers using CA and the number of categories to which these papers are classified. It was observed that the leading categories were changing over the years and reflected the main issues that science was struggling with at that time. Currently the main categories are green sustainable science technology and environmental studies.
Koncepcja automatów komórkowych (CA) liczy sobie już ponad 70 lat, a w ostatnich latach automaty są coraz częściej używane do badań w różnych dziedzinach. Celem tej pracy było przeanalizowanie ich wykorzystania w naukach biologicznych na podstawie danych uzyskanych z bazy danych Web of Science. Analiza wykazała tendencję wzrostową zarówno w liczbie prac z zakresu biologii z wykorzystaniem CA, jak i liczbie kategorii, do których klasyfikowane są te prace. Wiodące kategorie zmieniały się na przestrzeni lat i odzwierciedlały główne zagadnienia, z którymi zmagała się ówczesna nauka, obecnie są to m.in. zrównoważony rozwój oraz nauki społeczne o środowisku.

Opis:: The main aim of this article was to describe the academic teachers’ scientific efficiency at the University of Rzeszów (UR), including: (1) the qualification of the fields of science where the academic teachers are in the world scientific environment as well as (2) to identify those of them who are functioning in the world scientific environment – they are the most often quoted by others scientists. The analyses were taken on three bases of the ISI Web of Science. The authors analysed articles published between 2005 and 2009 year by academic teachers from the University of Rzeszów.

Opis:: Theoretical background: Analytical marketing is at the heart of scientific research because it plays an important role in building the competitiveness of enterprises and is an opportunity for them to grow.Purpose of the article: The aim of the article is to present the results of a bibliometric analysis of the developing area of analytical marketing.Research methods: For this purpose, specialist journals published between 1900 and 2021 were searched in the Web of Science database. The scientometric analyses carried out on their basis concern the number of publications, authorship and co-authorship, the number of citations, journals, thematic categories, institutions, countries and keywords. Over 200 publications cited 2,563 times were analyzed.Main findings: The concept of analytical marketing was taken into account by over 400 authors, with Maria Petrescu authoring the highest number of publications, and Michel Wedel being the most significant author due to the number of citations. An important role, due to the number of publications in this area, is played by institutions based in the USA (over 50%), including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). What is more, the conducted research emphasizes the importance of marketing analytics and presents benefits that stem from using it.

The purpose of this article is to present basic information on bibliometric analysis of scientific achievements. This analysis is basis of the most popular indicators such as number of publications, number of citations, average citations, Impact Factor, Hirsh index. An analysis of publications Szczecin’s scientists indexed in the interdisciplinary database Web of Science is introduced in article. The analysis is a presentation capabilities the database and potential of this methods.

Opis:: Currently, the evaluation of scientific journals is one of the most important tools in scientific policy, and points awarded for publications in journals play a key role in assessing the achieve− ments of researchers and in the parametric evaluation of scientific institutions. The aim of the study was to examine the contribution of Polish journals from the field of life sciences with Impact Factor in the international bibliometric databases (Web of Science™, Scopus, Google Scholar, Index Copernicus) as well as in the lists of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland. The bibliometric analysis dealt with seven journals: Acta Biologica Cracoviensia Series Botanica, Archives of Environmental Protection, Dendrobiology, Acta Theriologica (currently Mammal Research), Polish Journal of Ecology, Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae and Sylwan. The bibliometric techniques most often used in specialized databases were analysed based on the values of following indicators: Impact Factor, Hirsch Index, Egghe Index, SCImago Journal Rank and Index Copernicus Value. Acta Theriologica (category ‘zoology'), which was the most cited title with the highest value of the Impact Factor, was the most influential periodic in Polish science in 2000−2015 period among the analysed journals. In case of Dendrobiology and Sylwan, i.e. journals belonging to the ‘forestry' category, the previous was listed higher in the analysed databases. However, the continuous increase in the value of Impact Factor and, as a conse− quence the development of the journal prestige, are observed for Sylwan.

Opis:: Background: The Physical Internet is a young concept. This term has existed since 2006. But since the last five years (from 2012 - world, from 2014 - Poland) this concept has been intensively discussed in theory and practice. Currently, two facts are diagnosed: small number of conferences and scientific articles and small number of project implementations. Accordingly, the Physical Internet could be treated as a pilot concept. Material and methods: The aim of the paper is to review of scientific articles dedicated to Physical Internet topic (the authors' article solely regards the physical aspects of the problem). Method of systematic review of literature was used. Systematic review of literature was divided into four steps: initial recognition of literature in PI topic, selection of publications in criteria of two streams: scientific and practice, analysis of content of publications and final conclusions. The analysis aims at identifying considerable articles in the Physical Internet topic area. The article has a fundamental influence on further concept shaping. The research time span includes scientific articles published in the years 2004-2017. The research subject was Web of Science and Scopus databases. Results: As regards to the theoretical stream, the Scopus scientific database is a slightly larger source of the knowledge about the Physical Internet than Web of Science (number of articles, number of citations). From the point of view of ranking in citations, the Web of Science is better than Scopus (both old and new publications). As to the theorists, the most worldwide renowned (cited) people (Web of Science and Scopus) are: E. Ballot, B. Montreuil, S.L. Pan and Y. Sallez. Conclusions: One might distinguish two Physical Internet evolution phases from 2004 to 2017: years 2004 - 2012 (the Physical Internet occurrence, no interest in the concept and return to its thematic scope) - when the physical internet concept assumptions were developed and clarified and years 2013-2017 (renaissance of the Physical Internet as a future concept of efficient supply chain management) - when the concept was introduced (implemented) in logistic reality. The first period of the Physical Internet is characterised by the focus on its theoretical assumptions, the second one is characterised by the domination of presenting application and implementation solutions (pilot projects mainly with the case study status).
Wstęp: Fizyczny Internet jest młodą koncepcją - termin funkcjonuje od 2006. Jednak na przestrzeni ostatnich czterech lat (od 2012 - świat, od 2014 - Polska), koncepcja ta jest intensywnie dyskutowana w teorii i praktyce. Na chwilę obecną diagnozuje się zarówno małą liczbę konferencji i artykułów naukowych, jak również stosunkowo małą liczbę projektów wdrożeniowych, które póki co należy traktować w kategorii rozwiązań pilotażowych. Metody: Celem artykułu jest przegląd artykułów naukowych dedykowanych tematyce Fizycznego Internetu (autorzy koncentrują się jedynie na nurcie teoretycznym tej koncepcji). Zastosowaną w artykule metodą badawczą jest systematyczny przegląd literatury. Przeprowadzony przez autorów systematyczny przegląd literatury obejmuje cztery kroki: wstępne rozpoznanie literatury z zakresu Fizycznego Internetu, wybór publikacji oraz ich podział na dwie kategorie: naukowa i praktyczna, analiza treści publikacji, sformułowanie wniosków końcowych. Celem analizy jest identyfikacja znaczących artykułów (w tym także osób) w tematyce Fizycznego Internetu, mających podstawowy wpływ na dalsze kształtowanie się tej koncepcji. Zakres czasowy badań obejmuje artykuły naukowe za okres 2004 - 2017. Przedmiot badań stanowią uznane bazy naukowe Web of Science oraz Scopus. Wyniki: W ramach nurtu teoretycznego nieco szerszym źródłem wiedzy nt. Fizycznego Internetu jest baza naukowa Scopus niż Web of Science (liczba artykułów, liczba cytowań). Z punktu widzenia wyższego miejsca w rankingu cytowań zdecydowanie lepszą bazą jest Web of Science niż Scopus (dotyczy to zarówno starszych jak i nowszych publikacji). W przypadku teoretyków najbardziej poważanymi (cytowanymi) osobami na świecie (Web of Science i Scopus) są: E. Ballot, B. Montreuil, S.L. Pan i Y. Sallez. Wnioski: W latach 2004 - 2017 wyróżnić można dwie fazy ewolucji Fizycznego Internetu: lata 2004 - 2012 (pojawienie się Fizycznego Internetu, okres braku zainteresowania koncepcją i powrotu do tematu) - okres opracowywania i doprecyzowania założeń koncepcji Fizycznego Internetu oraz lata 2013-2017 (okres renesansu Fizycznego Internetu jako przyszłościowej koncepcji efektywnego zarządzania łańcuchami dostaw) - okres wprowadzania (wdrażania) tej koncepcji w życie, w rzeczywistość logistyczną. Pierwszy okres Fizycznego Internetu cechuje się koncentracją na podstawach teoretycznych koncepcji Fizycznego Internetu, drugi okres charakteryzuje się dominacją prezentacji rozwiązań aplikacyjnych, wdrożeniowych (pilotażowe projekty głównie o statusie case study).

Opis:: The aim of the article is to indicate the influence of human resource policy on the presence of Polish science in global science. Research findings include an analysis of changes over time in the number of research personnel and papers indexed in the Web of Science database. The research method used in the study is statistical analysis with the use of correlation analysis and regression analysis. Application of these tools allowed for establishing basic relationships between the analysed variables. Obtained results point to the fact that the human resource policy in Polish science, aimed at increasing the number of papers published at international level or in international circulation, turns out to be effective. This growth was especially visible in the years 1999–2011.

Opis:: The work presents available tools dedicated to bibliometric analyzes such as citation databases (Scopus and Web of Science) and bibliometric indicators (Impact factor, Eigenfactor, Article Influence, SCImago Journal Rank, Source Normalized Impact per paper and CiteScore). They are compared with each other in order to select the most suitable one for measuring the publication activity. The paper compares the publications achievements of scientists who are laureates of the first competitions of the National Science Center, differentiated due to their place in their scientific career.
W pracy przedstawione zostają dostępne narzędzia dedykowane analizom bibliometrycznym takie jak bazy cytowań (Scopus oraz Web of Science) oraz wskaźniki bibliometryczne (Impact factor, Eigenfactor, Article Influence, SCImago Journal Rank , Source Normalized Impact per paper oraz CiteScore). Zostają one ze sobą porównane w celu wyboru najbardziej odpowiedniego z nich do pomiaru aktywności publikacyjnej. W pracy porównano osiągnięcia publikacyjne naukowców, będących laureatami pierwszych konkursów Narodowego Centrum Nauki zróżnicowanych ze względu na miejsce w karierze naukowej.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to present the possible relationship between the level of financing of R+D, the R+D personnel rate (particularly in the higher education sector) and the presence of Polish academic research in the world demonstrated by prestigious publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS). The research findings concern the analysis of changes in time and show a clear, strong and positive correlation between the level of financing of research and development activity and the number of publications listed in the WoS. The received result indicates with a wellfitting regression model that there is a direct relationship between the expenditure on research and the presence of Polish scholars in the international science.
