- Opis:
- A Chronicle, from the Greek chronos (time) and chronikos (referring to time), according to The Contemporary Polish Dictionary means: A chronological record of the most important events in the life of an organization, an institution, a state or a social group. A regular review of the current events from the same field. A chronicle is the genre of the historical literature, and its authors are called chroniclers (chronographers). Apart from register books (baptisms, wedding ceremonies, deaths), parish chronicles are valuable sources of information. Chronicle accounts can be found in the oldest register books. Atthe turn of the 20th century, chronicles were in the visitation registers apart from other parish books. In most cases, they were written impersonally and contained only material referring to the life of a parish. The descriptions generally concerned external facts and achievements, omitting the processes taking place in the collective mentality and the attitudes of the faithful. Parish chronicles are written by the people who live near to us. They believe God called them to capture history in chronicle accounts. Seemingly, it is an easy task, but each chronicler has to choose the most important and beautiful moments of history. The beauty and exceptional quality of parish chronicles lie in their uniqueness. There are no two identical chroniclers or accounts. That is why each chronicle is like a spiritual feast for the reader who, by opening the book, revives the accounts of the past.
