Krystalizuje ją dzięki dostrzeganiu w dziele swojego imago. Przez zjawisko Aha-Erlebnis potrafi zidentyfi kować się z dziełem, które staje się swoistym lustrem ego adresata. Problematyka, którą podejmuje autor, będzie egzemplifi kowana na przykładzie „Lalek” Hansa Bellmera, które poprzez swoją formę wpisują się w myśl abjectu Julii Kristevy.
The text presents a proposal to understanding work of art as being expressed in abjection. With works of art, the recipients can create their own identity. It is crystallizes by the recipient’s contact with their imago. By Aha-Erlebnis phenomenon they can identify with the work, which becomes a kind of recipient’s Ego mirror. Issues will be discussed on the example of Hans Bellmer’s Dolls, which by their form and presentation are part of the abject problem described by Julia Kristeva.

Od czasów rewolucji obyczajowej artystki poszukują własnego języka, który umożliwiłby pełną ekspresję kobiecego podmiotu w sztuce. W pracy omówione zostały środki wykorzystywane do tego celu przez współczesne artystki, takie jak sięganie do tematyki abjectalnej, posługiwanie się ikonografią waginalną oraz ogólnie pojętym własnym ciałem, a także alternatywne środki przekazu jak performance czy video-art.
The purpose of this paper is to present a continuous progress of female artists on the surge of their identity and power through art. Women, discriminated through ages, both as an object of art and as its creator, since the Sexual Revolution of the 60s claim their right to express inner wisdom, desires and power through art. Researching for own language is vital. Contemporary female artists engage in alternative art forms such as performance art, video-art, vaginal iconography, abject art to accomplish this aim.

Opis:: The article undertakes to interpret the collection of short stories titled Historie maniaków by Roman Jaworski using the category of ugliness. So far, this work has been analysed through a different aesthetic category, namely the grotesque, while the author himself drew attention in the discussed collection of short stories to ugliness and recommended that it should be chosen as the principle perspective. The analysis focuses on the impact of the ugliness category on the shaping of elements of the world presented in the work: the creation of the characters and their corporeality, settings, as well as the very composition of the collection and the construction of the language used by the author. The paper finishes with an attempt to interpret Historie maniaków using contemporary humanistic theories, which consider the category of ugliness as a positive value.

Opis:: Celem pracy jest ukazanie, jak kobieta będąca w dzieciństwie ofiarą przemocy seksualnej, opowiada o swoim doświadczeniu. Autorka skupia się na dwóch tekstach autobiograficznych - "Kato-tata. Nie-pamiętnik" i "Monidło: życie po kato-tacie" Halszki Opfer. W pracy przedstawiony został zarys badań dotyczących przemocy seksualnej, której ofiarami są dzieci. Odwołano się też do postrzegania kobiecej seksualności w polskiej kulturze. Autorka przyjrzała się też kwestii gatunku, do którego można zaliczyć twórczość Halszki Opfer oraz zadała sobie pytanie, dlaczego sięgnęła ona po pióro i jak odebrało to jej środowisko. W pracy została zwrócona uwaga także na sposób prowadzenia narracji oraz charakterystykę autorki i zarazem bohaterki "Kato-taty". Praca opisuje też ojca Halszki Opfer i sposób postrzegania go przez jego ofiarę. Odniesiono się również do "Mokradełka" jako reportażu obiektywizującego opisywane w "Kato-tacie" wydarzenia. Poruszona została także kwestia skutków doznawanej przemocy seksualnej, jakie były widoczne w życiu Halszki. Jako konteksty rozważań zostały dobrane powieści Wojciecha Kuczoka "Gnój" i "Nigdy więcej" Anny Zamojskiej. Autorka odwołuje się także do opracowań naukowych na temat wykorzystania seksualnego, dotyczących aspektów kulturowych, społecznych i psychologicznych.
The aim of the paper is to discuss how a woman who was a victim of sexual violence in her childhood, narrates her experience. Author focuses on two Halszka Opfer's autobiographical novels– “Kato-tata. Nie-Pamięnik” and “Monidło: życie po kato-tacie”. The paper presents an outline of research on sexual violence against children and perception of female sexuality in Polish culture. Author looks at the genre to which the novels of Halszka Opfer could be included. The paper also focuses on the narrative method and the characteristics of Halszka Opfer. It describes the protagonist of “Kata-tata” and the way his victim and his community perceive him. Katarzyna Surmiak Domanska’s “Mokradełko” is also referred to as a reportage that objectifies the events described in “Kato-tata”. The issue of the effects of experienced sexual violence, which was visible in Halszka's life, is also raised. The novels by Wojciech Kuczok “Gnój” and “Nigdy więcej” by Anna Zamojska were selected as contexts for the considerations. The author also refers to scientific studies on sexual abuse, concerning cultural, social and psychological aspects.

Opis:: The paper raises the problem of the child as the Great Other, who appears in the novels of Doris Lessing The Fifth Child and Kenzaburo Öe A personal matter. In both works coming into the world of the Other – a handicapped boy – puts to the test the moral foundations of the conservative society. Nobel Prize winners are making human vivisection that shall specifically examine the persistence of attitudes and values such as parenthood, love, responsibility, confidence in front of drastic Otherness. The child manifests its differences, can not cope in relations with the environment, for which it is something dangerous, threatening ordered hierarchy of the family. Scandal also cause parents responsible for the birth of the ,,monster”. In Doris Lessing novel mother is excommunicated from the patriarchal society, in the prose of Öe father is alone in the community in which he lives with his son. For the analysis of the text the theory of Julia Kristeva on disgust will be used. Categories of abject, semiotic-ness, ,,the stranger in me” will help answer the question – why the hyperactive boy (The Fifth Child) and a boy with cerebral hernia (A personal matter) cause scandal and fear.

Opis:: Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend (1954) is about the volatile relationship between Robert Neville—the sole survivor of the human race—and vampires as the members of a brave new world order. While many critics tend to read the relationship between Robert and the vampires as the colonizer and the colonized, this article sees the need to devise a paradigm to acknowledge the critical merits of all these postcolonial and racial readings without overemphasizing the validity of any of the mentioned readings at the expense of the other. The paradigm shows the journey of a subject who initially thought that he is in absolute control, but later is made to realize that, in his insistence on this position, he is actually being swayed towards marginalization and abjection. At the same time, the initially abject and marginalized vampires assume the position of dominance and normalcy at the end of the novel. In order to reach this understanding, the study draws on Julia Kristeva’s theoretical conceptualization of abjection.

Opis:: W niniejszej pracy pragnę poruszyć zagadnienie użycia techniki taksydermii w sztuce nowoczesnej. W pracy zostaną uwzględnione początki tej techniki, świadczące o tym że nie jest ona bynajmniej współczesnym zjawiskiem, a jest zakorzeniona w historii i kulturze. Akcent zostanie postawiony na moment historyczny, kiedy technika ta, będąc przynależną rzemiosłu, przeniknęła do strefy sztuki. Spowodowane to było między innymi poszukiwaniami nowych środków wyrazu przez artystów współczesnych oraz wzrastającym zainteresowaniem dotąd pomijanymi aspektami rzeczywistości. Zastosowanie preparatów pochodzenia biologicznego w dziełach sztuki nastręcza również szeregu dylematów natury etycznej, co również zostanie poddane analizie w niniejszej pracy. Ponadto ambiwalentny status dzieła taksydermisty wykorzystanego jako ready made poszerza pole interpretacyjne dzieł, w które został wcielony i stanowi pobudkę do rozważań na temat znaczenia samej materii i przedmiotu w dziele. Analiza powyższych zagadnień opierać się będzie na szczegółowym prześledzenie tych wątków na przykładzie dwóch dzieł: "A Thousand Years" Damiena Hirsta oraz "Piramidy zwierząt" Katarzyny Kozyry.
In this paper I would like to discuss the issue of the use of the taxidermy technique in contemporary art. The work takes into account the beginnings of this technique, proving that it is by no means a contemporary phenomenon, but is rooted in history and culture. The emphasis will be placed on the historical moment when this technique, belonging to the craft, penetrated the sphere of art. It was caused, inter alia, by the search for new means of expression by contemporary artists and the growing interest in aspects of reality that had been overlooked so far. The use of preparations of biological origin in works of art also poses a number of ethical dilemmas, which will also be analyzed in this paper. Moreover, the ambivalent status of the taxidermist's work, used as ready made, broadens the field of interpretation of the works in which he was embodied and is an incentive to reflect on the meaning of matter and object in the work. The analysis of the above issues will be based on a detailed examination on the example of two works: "A Thousand Years" by Damien Hirst and "Pyramids of animals" by Katarzyna Kozyra.

Opis:: This paper focuses on the problem of silence regarded as an acoustic framework in which uncanny sonic phenomena appear. Some of these haunting noises take the form of sound abject — an unwanted sound of the human body, „neither [sound] subject nor [sound] object”. Borrowing terms from two eminent authors of twentieth-century aesthetics — Julia Kristeva, who proposed the concept of abject, and Pierre Schaeffer, who announced the existence of acousmatic sound objects, I hereby take the liberty of introducing the idea of „sound abject” — an unwanted, uncanny corporeal sound (the sound of the body itself ), uncontrolled by the self and constituting neither a subject nor an object but a sound phantasm that separates from the body and resounds worrisomely. I analyse the cases of sound installation created by Jan Simon as well as the Jamaican dub music production strategies.

The author analyses the language of Schubert’s novel and indicates an important problem for the writer, that is conveying the truth about the event in literature. Tytuł:: Memory for the future : managing history within the framework of museums

Opis:: The most important idea in this article is that managing a museum means as much as managing history. It is important to be aware that managing memory is indeed equal to managing the oblivion. Whatever will be overlooked within the collection (memory), will most probably be forgotten. Museums should remember that it is about making incessant choices as to which elements of heritage should be preserved and kept in appropriate conditions to be available for further generations. There is a lot of evidence of political, ethnic, social, economical and cultural exclusion. We need to emphasize that all the members of a given community foster its culture and history. Certainly, not all of them participate in its development equally - certain groups (e.g. political) or certain individuals (such as artists) become especially active in certain periods of time or are more influential than other groups in the development of a culture within a smaller community or the entire society. But museums should remember about all of them and should build their collections and displays having all the cultural objects and abjects (acc. to Yulia Kristeva). If a museum is to be the seat of memory and history it needs to include the memory and history of everyone.
