Opis:
The author points an urgent issue of insufficient, or even non-existent, systemic preparation of academic teacher to run courses with students and to support his or her professional development. This paper presents the concept of the Center of Excellence for Academic Teaching and Learning - Ars Docendi UJ which aims at meeting needs of not only the young scientists but also academic teachers at every stage of professional teacher development. First, the question of supporting academic teachers' teaching competence development is put in the context of academic teaching tasks redefinition. Then the author provides justification for the thesis of necessity to establish interdisciplinary teams for teaching competence enhancement within universities and discusses the need to initiate diversified actions to support academic teaching far more beyond the standard courses for young academic teachers. These various areas of interest are important background to present what the Center of Excellence for Academic Teaching and Learning - Ars Docendi at the Jagiellonian University actually does.

Opis:
The article is a presentation of the teaching materials which were one of the key elements for the preparation and implementation of the training module under the project: “Implementation of the educational programme »Politics – Religion – Security. Conflicts and attempts to resolve them« basing on international cooperation.” This publication is made up of the following parts: presentation of the main assumptions of the project; presentation of entities involved in the implementation of the project; description of ideas underlying the project and its objectives (“Issues”); discussion of the contents of twelve sets of teaching materials (textbooks) and academic documents (syllabuses) developed by project promoters. The educational program prepared by the authors has been dedicated to Polish students – project participants. The project has been aimed at preparing its participants for their future roles as employees or employers effectively functioning in the religiously and culturally diversified labour market. Having this objective in mind, twelve sets of teaching materials have been profiled, which address issues covering the time space from the Antiquity until the present. These issues are linked with: biblical texts; ancient Greek philosophy and tragedy; the legal and political situation of first Christians; the Church at the late Antiquity; the medieval project of uniting Europe; modern times and ideologies; modern sources of totalitarianism; the religious dimension of political ideologies; relations between the Church and nationalists; contemporary Catholic social teaching.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the idea of gamification of academic courses as well as strategies and tools for the game between the lecturer and students, thanks to which a cascading building-up of motivation to study actively will be possible. To achieve this goal, the article uses the concepts contained in the scientific literature devoted to the idea of gamification, the contents of student essays addressing the issue of effective ways to motivate an involved participation in classes and personal experience of the author of the article in applying the elements of games in the teaching process. The results of the deliberations presented in the article and the conclusions formulated on their basis draw attention primarily to the need to introduce innovations into the teaching of academic courses. Methodically properly designed courses, based on the idea of gamification, can fulfil the essential purpose of teaching, which is to stimulate involvement in the process of studying in the modern generation of students - a generation whose way of life is determined by the virtual space, saturation with stimuli, and the need to be noticed in a crowd. Usability of gamification, beyond the desire to develop in students the need for knowledge and understanding, also results from the possibility of building lasting social relations between the lecturer and students which can pay off, through tutor relations, with further cooperation in the realization of joint projects.

The article aims to indicate the need to train the skill to make intertextual relationships. The article focuses in particular on the academic teaching level, as the ability to operate someone else’s word is its vital element. The publication proves that the need to train this skill stems from a number of reasons: the need to meet the requirements for academic texts, the high didactic value of incorporating source texts into the written production process and the unsatisfactory level of students’ ability to create intertextual relationships.

The article illustrates the results of a survey carried out to analyse the development of social competencies at the university in students’ perceptions. The study’s main aim was to discover the experiences and opinions of young studying adults in this aspect. According to the gathered qualitative data, students expect more practical and socially engaging activities. They point out the need to diagnose and support them in their social development, especially by organising individually tailored courses, mentoring, and training with soft-competence specialists. The article closes with a summary and practical suggestions concerning social competencies development at university.

Opis:
The paper considers the question of the status of teaching/studying sociology at Polish universities. The basic data were derived from two sources. They come partly from the Ministry of Higher Education (a number of public and private universities offering sociology as a field of study, numbers of students and graduates and so on). And another source of data is the author’s empirical research which includes: analysis of websites, interviews with students, lecturers, deans, visiting professors, and Erasmus beneficiaries. The study refers to the similar one made ten years ago. Comparison of both makes it possible to notice: (1) growing interest in studying sociology in Poland and increasing expansion of private universities (and vocational colleges) in this field; (2) strong students’ pressure on making sociological studies more pragmatic; (3) wide space for necessary changes and corrections; (4) confusion among managers responsible for the process of academic teaching (mostly due to the new regulations of the Bologna system); (5) good opinion about the academic level of Polish sociology but poor quality of academic teaching, badly organized process of studying and too formal relationships between students and lecturers. Ambiguity of a professional profile of the sociologist can be – paradoxically – its strong side in postmodern society which needs specialists able to understand increasingly complex social relationships in every area. There is one condition, however, sociological studies should be complemented with other ones.

Język polski w aspekcie kulturoznawczym w nauczaniu akademickim
Polish language in aspect of cultural studies in academic teaching
Autorzy:
Przybylska, Renata
Wydawca:
Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego
Opis:
One of the problems in Polish language teaching at each level of education is variably structured division of actual knowledge on the subject and teaching of skills into two basic parts: knowledge on language and knowledge on literature. At present, evolution of the approach both to language and literature is making such division less strict. Main integrating and combining factor is inclusion of both language and literature into broader context - seeing both fields as components of cultural studies. Change of awareness with respect to role of language in Polish studies has an impact on visible changes in syllabuses of Polish studies manifested by inclusion of language studies. Such turn towards language in cultural approach can have its advantages and disadvantages: on one hand it enables integration of various fields of knowledge, i.e. literary and linguistic studies, however, on the other hand it can lead to marginalization of strict canon of basic knowledge in the scope of general linguistic studies and Polish language studies. Hence it seems it high time to rethink a concept of teaching at academic level of so called knowledge on language in general, and in particular knowledge on Polish language.
