    Opis:
    The article presents the possibilities of using acoustic microscopy to evaluate defects in resistance spot welding joints. For this purpose, the welded joints were made from two grades of aluminium plates EN AW5754 H24 and EN AW6005 T606, which were then subjected to non-destructive testing using acoustic microscopy and conventional destructive testing using traditional light microscopy techniques. Additionally, the study examined the influence of the typical contaminants found in industrial conditions on the quality of the joint.

    Opis:
    There is an increasing interest in casting pressure elements in the automotive and household industry. Mechanical properties, implementation precision and quality play major role here. Unfortunately, this manufacturing technology is accompanied with disadvantageous features of the material structure as porosity, which must be controlled during production. On the basis of comparative studies of three selected research methods the most optimal research method for this group of products and materials was selected. It is a technique based on acoustic microscopy which, allows for the research of large components in the X and Y axes and a relatively high Z-axis. The research enables an analysis of all components without necessity of cutting a product into smaller elements subjected to separate analysis.

    Opis:
    For the past two decades, atomic force acoustic microscopy (AFAM), an advanced scanning probe microscopy technique, has played a promising role in materials characterization with a good lateral resolution at micro/nano dimensions. AFAM is based on inducing out-of-plane vibrations in the specimen, which are generated by an ultrasonic transducer. The vibrations are sensed by the AFM cantilever when its tip is in contact with the material under test. From the cantilver’s contactresonance spectra, one determines the real and the imaginary part of the contact stiffness k*, and then from these two quantities the local indentation modulus M' and the local damping factor Qloc-1 can be obtained with a spatial resolution of less than 10 nm. Here, we present measured data of M' and of Qloc-1 for the insulating amorphous material, a-SiO2. The amorphous SiO2 layer was prepared on a crystalline Si wafer by means of thermal oxidation. There is a spatial distribution of the indentation modulus M' and of the internal friction Qloc-1. This is a consequence of the potential energy landscape for amorphous materials.

    Opis:
    Scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) is an attractive tool in the non-destructive inspection of printed circuit boards, thick film, thin layers and microelectronic packages. For example it permits to detect subsurface delaminations, cracks and pores (air bubbles) for different materials: metals, plastics, ceramics or composites. The examples of different electronic components and circuits observed in SONOSCAN D-9000 ultrasonic microscope with frequencies of transducers between 10 Mhz and MHz and 230 MHz are presented in this paper.

    Opis:
    This article explores the possibilities of using non-destructive ultrasonic techniques to analyze the quality of lapped braze-welded joints. The tests were performed for 4 material groups (DC03+ZE steel and X5CrNi18-19 steel, aluminum alloys AW-5754 and AW-6061, titanium Grade 2 and copper Cu-ETP). As part of the work, additional materials and joint processes and its parameters were selected (TIG, MIG, laser). The quality of joints was monitored using scanning acoustic microscopy. Based on the A-scan and C-scan images, potential joints imperfections were determined. The possibilities of using advanced ultrasonic techniques to analyze the quality of braze joints was assessed.
    W artykule analizowano możliwości zastosowania nieniszczących technik ultradźwiękowych do analizy jakości zakładkowych złączy lutospawanych. Badania wykonano dla 4 grup materiałowych (stal DC03+ZE oraz X5CrNi18-19, stopy aluminium AW-5754 oraz AW-6061, tytan Grade 2 oraz miedź Cu-ETP). W ramach pracy dobrano materiały dodatkowe i warunki technologiczne wytwarzania złączy (TIG, MIG, laser). Kontrolowano jakość wykonanych złączy z wykorzystaniem skaningowej mikroskopii akustycznej. Na podstawie obrazów A-skan i C-skan określano potencjalne niezgodności połączeń, Określono możliwość wykorzystania zaawansowanych technik ultradźwiękowych do analizy jakości złączy lutospawanych.

    Opis:
    Performed investigations and obtained results concerned the analysis of residual stresses in near-surface areas of coppercorundum (Cu-Al2O3) composite and silicon carbide (SiC) samples. X-ray diffraction and acoustic tomography techniques, as well as the suitable calculation procedures, allowed to locate sample-areas with extreme values of stresses residing in the examined materials. The registered texture-stress characteristics reflects inhomogeneity of the samples structure identified by means of acoustic tomography. Obtained results provide valuable information on anisotropy of physical properties of structural elements produced by the technologies applied to the examined samples.
    Przeprowadzone badania i uzyskjane wyniki dotyczyły analizy naprężeń w pobliżu obszarów powierzchniowych dwóch typów materiałów: kompozytów CU-AI2O3 oraz węglika krzemu (SiC). Do zlokalizowania obszarów skrajnych wartości naprę- żeń w badanych materiałach użyto dwóch technik dyfrakcji rentgenowskiej i tomografii akustycznej wykorzystując skaningowy mikroskop akustyczny. Zarejestrowana tekstura krystalograficzna oraz naprężenia własne odzwierciedlają niejednorodność próbek zidentyfikowaną za pomocą tomografii akustycznej. Uzyskane wyniki stanowią cenne informacje na temat anizotropii właściwości fizycznych elementów konstrukcyjnych.

    Opis:
    The subject of this study was investigation of the factors that have a decisive influence on the resistance of siliceous porcelain to degradation processes. There was tested material C 110 type, which is widely used for the production of low-voltage (LV) elements such as insulators and bushings. On the basis of mechanical-acoustic and microscopic research of small-sized samples, which were subjected to compression, there were distinguished successive stages of degradation of the material structure. In the authors* opinion, they have a reference to the ageing process, taking place during many years of work under operating conditions. Thus, it was possible to assess the structural factors that determine the durability and reliability of LV electroinsulating elements. The results were related to electrical aluminous porcelains.

    Opis:
    The paper presents the microscopic and mechanoacoustic study of degradation processes of the porcelain material C 130 type. This kind of material is used in the production of the most durable and reliable electrotechnical elements. Raw material composition of the studied porcelain was modified. This had an impact on the inner properties, cohesion and – in consequence – on operational properties of the material. Using mechanical-acoustic and microscopic methods of testing of small-size samples that were subjected to compression, it was possible to distinguish successive stages of degradation of the porcelain structure. These stages were generally typical of the porcelain materials. In the authors’ opinion, they are connected to the ageing process happening over many years of work under operating conditions. Optimization of composition and technological properties – important during technological processes – resulted in a slight decrease in inner cohesion of the porcelain. When compared to the reference material – typical domestic C 130 material, mechanical strength was somewhat lower. Carried out investigations proved that resistance of the investigated material to the ageing degradation process – during long term operation – also decreased. The improvement of technological parameters and the reduction in the number of defective elements occurred simultaneously with some decrease in the operational parameters of the material. To restore their initial high level, further work is needed to optimize the raw material composition of the porcelain.
