Opis:: W artykule zostają przybliżone argumenty nieomawianej dotychczas szerzej w polskich badaniach debaty metodologicznej toczonej w ramach współczesnych adaptation studies. Autor opisuje trzy tendencje charakterystyczne dla najnowszych teorii adaptacji: metateoretyczne próby przeramowania pojęcia adaptacji, krytykę podejścia typu medium specificity oraz otwieranie się na konteksty kulturowe, społeczne i ekonomiczne. Zdaniem autora jednym z największych wyzwań stojących przed studiami nad adaptacją jest przełamanie obowiązującego w obrębie dyscypliny podziału na badania tekstualne i kontekstualne (na który zwracała uwagę Kamilla Elliott). Kategorią, która może stanowić pomost między ujęciami formalistycznymi a kulturoznawczymi, jest pojęcie dyskursu, które nie było dotąd przedmiotem poważnej debaty w ramach dyscypliny. Posługując się przykładami polskich adaptacji z ostatnich lat, autor wskazuje na możliwe sposoby zastosowania tej kategorii w badaniach porównawczych.
The article presents the methodological debate in contemporary adaptation studies, which has not been discussed in greater detail in Polish research. The author describes three trends characteristic of the latest adaptation theories: metatheoretical attempts to reframe the notion of adaptation, criticism of medium-specificity approach, opening up to cultural, social and economic contexts. According to the author, one of the greatest challenges that adaptation studies faces is to overcome the discipline’s division into textual and contextual research (which was noticed by Kamilla Elliott). A category that could link formalistic and cultural approaches is, as the author argues, the category of discourse, which has not been the subject of a broader debate within the discipline so far. Referring to the examples of the latest Polish film adaptations, the author indicates possible ways of applying the concept of discourse in comparative studies.

Autorka podejmuje refleksję na temat adaptacyjnego potencjału gier planszowych oraz proponuje termin "planszonizacja", który ma określać proces przystosowania tekstu kultury na planszę. Analizy trzech gier planszowych adaptujących peerelowskie seriale: "Alternatywy 4", "Zmiennicy" i "7 zgłoś się" są propozycją, w jaki sposób, za pomocą wybranych narzędzi teoretycznych wypracowanych przez inne dziedziny humanistyczne: literaturoznawstwo, filmoznawstwo i groznawstwo, można badać proces planszonizacji.
A presented cultural study is a response to the new phenomenon in the board game market: the creation of the licensed paratextual board games referring to the other cultural texts (literature, movie, TV series, video games etc.). The authoress gives reflection on the adaptive potential of the board games and coins the term 'boardaptation' to describe the translation of a text of the culture into a board game. The analyses of three board games adopted from the PPR TV series: '4 Alternative (Disjunction) Street' (pol. 'Alternatywy 4'), 'Subs' (pol. 'Zmiennicy') and '07 Come In' (pol. '07 zgłoś się') can be treated as a suggestion on how to use the selected theoretical tools developed by the other humanities: literary, movie, and game studies, to examine a boardaptation.

Opis:: In my BA dissertation I am going to compare a detective story "Flickan med snö i håret" by a Swedish author Ninni Schulman with its Polish translation. The analysis refers to two categories: generalisations and omissions. The most prevailing translation strategy in this book is omission. Generalisations are also numerous. Unfortunately, I do not have enough space to write even about additions and specifications. In the theoretical part I am going to write about translation studies as well as translation criticism and equivalence. Here is also the most essential information about the material. I am also going to write a little about the method in this part.In the analytical part I am going to do research on how the most difficult parts of the book have been translated by grouping them in two categories and several subcategories each. Having done that, I am going to present the final conclusions which might contribute to further translation research.The original and the translated versions differ in terms of style. The translator is on one hand very thoughtful of her readers, but on the other hand many passages have lost something in the process of translation. Many aspects have also been overlooked, which is the most distinctive feature of the translation. Adaptation is one of the most often used translation strategies.The original and its translation are highly equivalent but much information from the original version might have been included in the Polish version of the book.
Celem mojej pracy jest porównanie powieści kryminalnej pt.: "Flickan med snö i håret" autorstwa Ninni Schulman z jej polskim przekładem. Analiza dotyczy dwóch kategorii: generalizacji oraz opuszczeń. W polskim przekładzie autorstwa Ewy Chmielewskiej-Tomczak dominującą techniką tłumaczeniową są opuszczenia. Drugą najbardziej liczną kategorią są generalizacje. W obu przypadkach kategorie przeciwstawne, tj. dopowiedzenia oraz konkretyzacje nie są na tyle reprezentatywną i liczną grupą, żeby można je było tutaj omówić. Wybrane kategorie wydają się stanowić ciekawy przedmiot badań nad przekładem.W części teoretycznej skupiam się na pojęciach związanych z teorią i krytyką przekładu oraz ekwiwalencją. Znajdują się tutaj najważniejsze informacje o badanym materiale. Omówiłam również metodę, która była pomocna przy uporządkowaniu oraz zestawieniu tych kategorii.W części analitycznej badam, w jaki sposób oraz przy pomocy jakich technik tłumaczka radziła sobie z problematycznymi fragmentami, grupując przykłady w odpowiednie podkategorie.Wersja oryginalna i tłumaczenie różnią się pod względem stylu. Styl tłumaczenia charakteryzuje z jednej strony dbałość o czytelnika, jednak z drugiej strony wiele fragmentów straciło pewną warstwę znaczeniową w procesie przekładu. Najwyraźniejszą cechą charakterystyczną tego przekładu są liczne przeoczenia. Strategią tłumaczeniową często stosowaną w tym przekładzie jest adaptacja.Tekst oryginalny "Dziewczyny ze śniegiem we włosach" oraz jego tłumaczenie na język polski są w dużej części wysoce ekwiwalentne, jednak wiele informacji pochodzących z oryginału można było zawrzeć w polskim przekładzie.

The Translator as an Intermediary between Languages and Cultures in Two Polish Translations of Lewis Carroll’s Novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Opis:: The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the issue of translating children’s literature by focusing on the example of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and by conducting a comparative study of its two selected Polish translations. The first chapter focuses on the origins, history, and originality of the source book. It also presents the influence of the Victorian Era on the text. The second chapter examines the emergence and development of children’s literature and Children’s Literature Translation Studies. In this part, I emphasize the functions of this literature and the challenges it poses for the translator. I examine the theoretical aspects that are particularly important in translating children’s literature, such as faithfulness to the original, fluency, and rhythm of the text. Chapter Three concentrates on the role of culture in translation. Specific theories, that is Skopos and Polysystem theory are analyzed. Chapter Four is devoted to the linguistic aspects of translating children’s literature. The final, fifth, chapter provides a detailed comparative analysis of two Polish translations of Carroll’s novel: by Antoni Marianowicz (1995) and Maciej Słomczyński (1965), with a special focus on the target reader. The results of my research indicate differences in translation resulting from the choice of the target reader and emphasize the significance of the translator’s role as an intermediary between languages and cultures.
Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest omówienie problemu przekładu literatury dziecięcej na przykładzie „Alicji w Krainie Czarów” Lewisa Carrolla oraz przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej wybranych dwóch przekładów na język polski. Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia pochodzenie, historię i wyjątkowość źródłowego utworu. Ponadto rozważony zostaje wpływ epoki wiktoriańskiej na tekst. W drugim rozdziale omawiam powstawanie i rozwój literatury dziecięcej oraz studium przekładu (Children’s Literature Translation Studies). W tej części podkreślam funkcje literatury dla dzieci i trudności, jakie stawia ona przed tłumaczką/tłumaczem. Analizuję również teoretyczne aspekty języka będące szczególnie ważne w tłumaczeniu literatury dziecięcej, takie jak wierność oryginałowi oraz płynność tekstu. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest roli kultury w przekładzie. Przedstawiam w nim wybrane teorie, mianowicie teorie skoposu i polisystemów. Rozdział czwarty dotyczy językowych aspektów przekładu literatury dziecięcej. Ostatni rozdział zawiera szczegółową analizę porównawczą dwóch polskich przekładów powieści Lewisa Carrolla: Antoniego Marianowicza z 1995 r. i Macieja Słomczyńskiego z 1965 r., ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem docelowej grupy odbiorców. Wyniki mojej analizy ukazują istotne różnice w przekładach wynikające z wyboru docelowego odbiorcy oraz podkreślają rolę tłumacza jako pośrednika między językami i kulturami.

Opis:: The contemporary phase of the investigation of the religious sources of Taras Shevchenko’s art is not a well analysed aspect of literature studies, even though Biblical motifs in the works of this Ukrainian poet are still an inexhaustible source for literary research. The works of Taras Shevchenko contributed to the artistic embodiment of the Christian topography and inspired the artistic interpretation of the basics of patristics. Nowadays the topic of the Bible and Shevchenko is analysed in its interconnected aspects: general cultural, hermeneutic, linguistic, discourse and sociological, identification and descriptive, comparative, intersemiotic, religious, etc. On the basis of the reception strategies of translation studies as part of comparative studies and cultural approaches, embracing the wide circle of social codes, conventions and representations, the article focuses on the typology of Shevchenko’s poetic adaptations of psalms in the context of Ukrainian literature, and religious, ceremonial and spiritual traditions.

The article analyzes the activities of Polish institutions of higher education to create conditions of full participation in the educational process for students with disabilities and also describes the tasks undertaken in this regard in relation to: the students with disabilities, academic staff, student community and the physical environment. It outlines previous experiences and current challenges in the field of adaptation of the academic education to the needs of people with different types of disabilities.

Opis:: In this article, I will take up the idea of “origins” as it pertains to Finnish Shakespeare during Finland’s time as an autonomous Grand Duchy of Russia from 1809-1917. While not technically the beginning of Shakespearean performances, the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are the beginning of the rhetorical use of Shakespeare in public discourse used to establish cultural sovereignty distinct from Sweden and Russia. Beginning with a brief overview of Shakespearean mentions in the latter half of the eighteenth century, I will analyse the public discourse found in Finnish literary journals and newspaper articles in the 1810’s and 20’s. Following an analysis of J. F. Lagervall’s 1834 Ruunulinna, I will then briefly track how shifting attitudes towards translations such as those found in J. V. Snellman’s writings influenced the emerging Finnish literary and theatre tradition, most notably with Kaarlo Slöör and Paavo Cajendar’s Shakespeare translations and the establishment of the Finnish Theatre in 1871. Finally, an analysis of Juhani Aho’s untranslated essay in Gollancz’ 1916 A Book of Homage to Shakespeare will highlight the legacy of prior Finnish Shakespearean traditions, while also highlighting the limits of translation. Ultimately, I suggest that Shakespeare was appropriated early on as an accessible figure of resistance in the face of Swedish linguistic supremacy and the increasing threat of Russian assimilation and oppression.

Opis:: On the fiction pages of women’s weeklies representing mainstream popular culture, there is a constant migration of literary genres from elite culture into a mix of magazine narratives. As a result, the language and style of fine literature are deconstructed and reduced to magazine formats. This formatting gives literary techniques used in magazines a new function and a kind of aesthetic appeal characteristic of kitsch. The structure and literary forms of women’s magazines turn out to be very effective in organizing spontaneous experiences of women – expressing them in the form of magazine narratives.

Opis:: The main aim of this article is an attempt at mapping the preventive strategy in the epoch of climate and ecology crisis through the lens of (post)humanities. Drawing upon posthuman perspectives, as well as methodologies and research tools, I will try to grasp the complexity of reality through relational ontologies, which linked Anthropos with the plant kingdom. As Małgorzata Praczyk pointed out, posthumanism is still not so investigated in humanities (especially in the historic field), and even when it finally appears, ended up at counterproductive reductionism. Trying to avoid this impasse, the author of this text is using the method of morphing history which allows changing the perspectives from anthropocentric one to the plants, thus polyphonic assemblages (A. Tsing) enables to re(present) the other and multispecies agency. Finally, I will map the possible perspectives in an epoch of Anthropocene according to the statement: “the environmental crisis brings a crisis of imagination”(L. Buell). In that sense, rethinking humanities with indigenous knowledge(s) is strongly needed as well as “deep adaptation” (J. Bendell) in order to understand that “humans interact not only with each other, but in all times, places and context of ecosystems, and are affected by them” (R.C. Foltz).
