Opis:
For purposes of studying the heat transfer behavior of various fluids in a refrigeration system, a dynamic model is established, obtained on the basis of analysis concerning the effects of adsorption velocity, adsorbent bed temperature, condensing temperature, and heat transfer fluids, as well as changes of external conditions. It is demonstrated that adsorption velocity increases sharply in the initial phase of adsorption process and gradually declines after reaching a peak value, whereas condensing temperature increases sharply in the initial phase of desorption process and decreases after reaching a peak value with the desorption quantity decreasing. Furthermore, the increase of heat source temperature and the decrease of cooling water temperature can advance the adsorption process. The present study therefore suggests some ways of improving the performance of such a refrigeration system by increasing heat source temperature, decreasing ambient air temperature, increasing return air temperature and decreasing cooling water temperature.

Przedmiot artykułu stanowią wybrane aspekty adsorpcji, która jest jednym z najważniejszych zjawisk fizykochemicznych limitujących dynamikę wszelkich procesów zachodzących w układach wielofazowych. Podkreślając powszechność zjawiska, wskazano na przykłady jego praktycznego wykorzystania zarówno w skali mikro, jak i w różnych gałęziach przemysłu, a także w ochronie i inżynierii środowiska. Jako zasadniczy cel omówienia przyjęto teoretyczny opis równowagi adsorpcyjnej ograniczając, z konieczności, analizę do najprostszego przypadku, tj. do układu gaz/ciało stałe. Rozwój teorii zilustrowano, w pierwszej kolejności, przykładami modeli adsorpcji mono- i poliwarstwowej na powierzchniach homogenicznych, a następnie omówiono najważniejsze determinanty konstytuujące opis zjawiska z udziałem adsorbentów heterogenicznych pod względem rozkładu potencjału adsorpcyjnego. Wykaz literatury ograniczono do pozycji o charakterze kanonicznym.
The paper concerns selected aspects of adsorption, which is among the major physicochemical phenomena restricting the dynamics of any processes that occur in multiphase systems. The phenomenon is pointed out to be universal and examples are presented of how it can be put to practical use both in the micro scale and in various branches of industry, as well as environmental protection and environmental engineering. The principal object of the paper is to describe adsorption equilibrium in theoretical terms, perforce reducing the analysis to the simplest case, being the gas-solid system. The development of the theory is illustrated primarily with examples of mono- and multi-layer adsorption models on homogeneous surfaces, followed by a description of the major determinants by which the phenomenon is described, including adsorbents heterogenic in terms of adsorption potential distribution. The list of references is reduced to canonical texts.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to examine the efficiency of the thermal wave type adsorption refrigerating equipment working on a pair of activated carbon and methanol. Adsorption units can work in trigeneration systems and in applications driven by waste heat. They can be built also as a part of hybrid sorption-compressor systems, and they are very popular in solar refrigeration systems and energy storage units. The device examined in this study operates in a special mode called thermal wave. This mode allows to achieve higher efficiency rates than the normal mode of operation, as a significant contributor to transport heat from one to the other adsorber. To carry out the experiment a test bench was built, consisting of two cylindrical adsorbers filled with activated carbon, condenser, evaporator, oil heater and two oil coolers. Thermal oil circulation was responsible for providing and receiving heat from adsorbers. In order to perform the correct action a special control algorithm device was developed and implemented to keep the temperature in the evaporator at a preset level. The experimental results show the operating parameters changes in both adsorbers. Obtained COP (coefficient of performance) for the cycle was 0.13.

Opis:
The Palm Nut Shell Carbon (PNSC) and Treated Flyash Residue (TFR) has prepared by sulphuric acid process and characterized. The characterization studies includes determination of moisture, bulk density, pH, carbon soluble in water and acid, decolourising power, iron content, phenol number and surface area parameters. The characteristics of these carbons were compared with that of high cost activated charcoal carbon (ACC). The PNSC and TFR were used for adsorption of colouring matter from the textile dyeing industrial effluents.

Pneumatic brake, which use compressed air as a working medium, is the main brake of rail vehicles. The equipment used in the braking system requires sufficiently clean, without water vapour medium to work properly. Removing water vapour from the air prevents condensation and ice formation during winter, which guarantees correct brake operation. For this purpose, adsorption dryers are used in the railways to ensure the required pressure dew point value. This article includes an overview of available compressed air drying methods, the results of calculations and bench test of the dryer prototype developed at the Institute. Assumptions and requirements for the device intended for use in railways are based on European standards and UIC cards.

This paper is devoted to application of adsorption process for cooling power generation in a cooling devices. Construction and working principle of a water-silica gel adsorption chiller has been presented and the basic refrigeration cycle has been discussed. The article outlines behavior of a single-stage adsorption system influenced by changes in cycle time. The effect of cycle time and inlet chilled water temperatures on the main system performance parameters has been analysed.

In our earlier papers a hybrid adsorption-compression refrigeration cycle was presented. The hybrid, two stages cycle is based only on the natural refrigerants: water and carbon dioxide. The main advantage of the hybrid cycle is that the carbon dioxide compression cycle is subcritical because during the year-round operation it is possible to maintain the condensing temperature below 20°C. During the hot season, this is achieved by adsorption cooling, during cold seasons the wet cooling tower is sufficient. Already several years of experience, allowed to gather a considerable amount of measurement data. The refrigeration system is working in our laboratory constantly since 2013. In 2015 the adsorption system was upgraded by the manufacturer. In 2017 frequency inverter for wet tower fan controlling was introduced. The refrigeration chamber was used for tests with different content and operation of the refrigeration chamber (loading and unloading). The assumed CO2 evaporating temperature was -35°C. The averaged for HT (High Temperature) part of the cascade (adsorption cycle only) COPHT=0.51 for the whole year 2018. This may be considered a very good performance. Averaged total COP for the cascade system: COP=0.9 compared to COP=0.84 for compression only refrigeration cascade, with much higher TEWI index. For comparison for two-stage compression (R407CHT+R744LT) cycle was used. This means that if the cooling tower fan operation is controlled using an inverter, adjusted to the actual heat removal demand, the hybrid cycle is not only ecological but also energetically efficient.

This study attempts to find a fuzzy logic system for assessing the quality of water in water treatment plants (WTPs) providing water for irrigation purposes in the Basrah Governorate (South of Iraq). Each month, samples are taken in each of six major WTPs to measure electrical conductivity (EC), and the content of sodium, magnesium and calcium. The calculated value which is the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) is plotted with EC on the Richard diagram. SAR and EC values are combined together in a fuzzy inference system (FIS) to find out a quality number called the fuzzy irrigation water quality index number (FIWQI) which ranges from zero to one. The higher the value of the index, the better water quality. The Richard diagram, which helps to classify irrigation water, is used to adjust FIS components. Results show that the FIWQI for all WTPs changes depending on location and season. It ranges between 0.114–0.170, 0.120–0.190, 0.114–0.170, 0.114–0.202, 0.118–0.500 and 0.46–0.500 for Al-Bradhaia 1, Al-Jubaila 1, Shatt Al-Arab, Garmmah 1, Al-Rebat, and Old Shauaibah WTPs, respectively. The results indicate that WTPs effluent drawn from the Shatt Al-Arab River has poor water quality for irrigation purposes, except for an Old Shauaibah which receives water from another source called a sweet water canal. FIS results are compared with values obtained from the Richard diagram and 96% degree of compatibility between the two methods is attained. This indicates that FIS is an acceptable method for water quality classification.

Due to a lack of organs, cardiac support systems are being implanted in patients with severe congestive heart failure. One of the solutions to overcome complications such as inflow obstruction or pump thrombosis, which may occur in the case of ventricular assist devices, is to modify the surface of cannulas for the controlled blood clotting process. The results obtained up till now for developed surface coatings clearly show the influence of topographical and mechanical parameters of the coatings on cell viability and protein adsorption mechanism. The new coatings should enable the controlled growth of scar tissue, resulting in the limitation of thromboembolic events, and the reduction of cystic tissue growth into the flow lumen. The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between surface topography parameters on the susceptibility of cells to grow and adhere to the substrate as a solution with potential for use in MCS (mechanical circulatory support) devices. Research on surfaces used in MCS devices and on inflow cannulas has been carried out for many years, while the novelty of the present solution makes it a milestone within that type of application simultaneously allowing for appropriate selection of process parameters. Surface modification of titanium alloy Ti6Al7Nb was carried out using vacuum powder sintering of CP-Ti (commercially pure titanium) powder with two morphologies (regular spheres and irregular grains). The characterization of coatings obtained with the proposed method and the influence of measured topographic parameters (applying scanning electron microscopy, contact angle measurement and contact profilometry) on the cytotoxicity and susceptibility to protein adsorption were presented. Advanced albumin adsorption studies have fully confirmed the dependence of surface complexity on protein adsorption. The obtained results show a high potential of the produced coatings toward enabling permanent integration at the implant with the soft tissue.

Opis:
The sorption of divalent copper, natural sorbents of kaolinite and montmorillonite clays and carbon sorbent was studied on model solutions under static conditions. Quantitative characteristics of sorption process of copper ions were obtained. The degree of extraction of copper ions from solution was investigated, depending on the concentration of the initial solution and the weight ratio of the sorbent and volume of treated solution. The magnitude of sorption increases along with the increase in the volume of copper sulfate solution with a concentration of 0.02 M at a constant sample of sorbents. A higher carbon sorption capacity of the sorbent, in relation to ions of copper, was compared to kaolinite and montmorillonite clay. A higher sorption capacity of the carbon sorbent with respect to copper ions is established in the comparison with kaolinite and montmorillonite clay.
