Opis:
Software project enterprises deliver increasingly complex and custom-made software products and services. Agile methods were designed to address the challenges of dynamic and unpredictable software delivery environments to support the project team operating in these difficult work conditions. Agile Manifesto has presented four key values and twelve principles as mandatory rules. However, its implementation largely depends, in each case, on project teams and their organizational context. Implementation of the Agile method in everyday teamwork is strongly coupled with team values as well as with the whole organizational culture in a given team environment. The team values, in turn, depend on people in a team and their motivation led by autonomy, mastery and purpose. The primary goal of this paper is to present the Agile transformation changes from the perspective of project team values. Desk review and results of the multiple case study analysis in the companies undergoing an Agile transformation process are being presented as empirical research. The research results focus on the changes of the Agile transformation process from the perspective of project team values. The results showed an Agile transformation impacted a project team approach to work organization and it can be assessed from different perspectives of a project team values such as, for example: courage, focus, commitment, respect, openness, feedback, simplicity, communication, visibility, honesty and even a sense of humour. Broad organizational changes are impacting not only project team values, but also agility of whole project organization and its organizational culture.

Opis:
Large-sized enterprises provide advanced business services and products to their customers through complex, innovative and unique projects and programs. The strong market competition raised a lot of challenges in complex project and program management. Some of the key challenges in the project and program management are: increasing transparency of project planning, growing predictability of customer’s deliveries, higher overall project efficiency, reduction of project delivery cycle duration, improving communication and cooperation between business and project teams, improving project and program portfolio management and developing the right organizational culture. The primary goal of this paper is to present issues, conditions and challenges of an Agile transformation as an organizational change resultant from introduction of a new Agile project management methodology in the context of the contingency theory. Based on a review of the literature, multiple case study analysis of companies implementing new Agile project management methodology is presented as empirical research. It is focused on comparison of issues, conditions and challenges of the Agile transformation in large-sized enterprises. As the results of the research showed, the change of the project management methodology significantly impacted the entire project organization. It was a source of extensive organizational changes in technology, methodology, processes, strategy, structure and organizational culture and it allowed for improving the competitive advantage of the organization.

The aim of this paper is to present the quantitative perspective of the agile transformation processes in IT organisations. The phenomenon of agile transformation becomes a complex challenge for an IT organisation since it has not been analysed in detail so far. There is no research on the readiness of IT organisations to realise agile transformation processes. Such processes also prove to have uncontrolled character. Therefore, to minimise the risk of failure referring to the realisation of transformation processes, it is necessary to monitor them. It is also necessary to identify and analyse such processes to ensure their continuous character.

Opis:
IT and ICT software project enterprises offer advanced business services and products to their customers and users through complex, innovative and tailored programs and projects. IT and ICT programs and projects are broadly used by different industries to deliver their services and products through advanced software, web and cloud services and a multitude of user-customized digital technologies. A powerful and unforeseeable market competition brought a lot of challenges to the complex project and program management process. The primary challenges in the program and project management stem from: the growing overall project efficiency and productivity, reduction of the time-to-market, an increasing predictability of customer deliveries, expanding transparency of project planning, stronger cooperation and communication between business and project teams, optimisation of project and program portfolio management and creating a supportive and learning organizational culture. IT and ICT software project companies evolve by going through various organizational changes related to project management methodologies in order to address most of these challenges. The primary goal of this paper is to present the Agile transformation framework as a model of an organizational change deployed by introduction of a new project management methodology in the context of the contingency theory. The paper responds to research questions about a potential Agile adoption framework within the Agile transformation process. Following a review of the literature, the author’s empirical research resulted in a multiple case study analysis of companies implementing Agile project management methodologies. It is focused on Agile adoption models in IT and ICT software project enterprises. As demonstrated by the results of the research, the change in the project management methodology has significantly impacted the entire project organization. The research results showed that Agile transformation framework is not only a pure change in project management methodology but an uniform set of comprehensive organizational changes in governance, processes, technology, methodology, strategy, structure and organizational culture. These changes may lead to a competitive advantage gained by a software project organization. Senior executive management should analyze possible adoption models and framework prior to deciding about deployment of the transition process.

The objective of the paper is to present knowledge management aspects of an Agile transformation as an organizational change resultant from introduction of a new Agile project management methodology in the context of the organizational learning theory. The research study was concentrated on Information Technology (IT) & Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects which are considerably utilizing volatile knowledge resources. The paper responds to a research questions about potential knowledge management aspects, issues and challenges within Agile transformation process in terms of its pre-conditions and facilitators. Presented empirical research is based on a literature review and a quantitative analysis of multiple case studies of companies implementing new Agile project management methodology. The empirical research results were gathered with applying triangulation method of multiple case studies originated from document analysis, interviews and observation in order to reach higher reliability of research results. The detailed examination is focused on knowledge management aspects, issues and challenges within the Agile transformation process in large-sized project organizations. As shown by results of the research, the change in project management methodology significantly impacted the project organization as a whole. It was a source of comprehensive organizational changes in processes, technology, methodology, strategy, structure and organizational culture and it allowed for enhancing the competitive advantage of the organization. The key pre-condition and facilitator of an Agile transformation process is the knowledge management aspect. Project organizations and their senior executives have to address many knowledge management pre-requisites and challenges with a view to ensuring a successful transition process deployment. The research results revealed fundamental pre-conditions and demands in terms of: continuous training and workshops, coaching, mentoring, involvement of Agile coaches and champions, establishment of community of practice, rational support from executive team and learning organizational culture. However, the major Agile transition challenge to enterprises is to initiate a continuous learning process as a part of the learning organizational culture.

Opis:
Research background: Recent decades may undoubtedly be deemed as a period of exceptional transformation on a global scale. One element of this transformation is the reorganisation of traditional ways of business management (on all ontological levels). As a result, agile approach is increasingly often considered one of the key aspects of building the competitive advantage of a company. In this paper, agile approach is understood as the businesses' capability of responding promptly to market needs. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to present the research results on the use of agile approach in chosen organizations. More specifically, the main purpose of this article is to describe how organizations are transformed with use of the agile approach. Methods: In accordance with the goal of the article, the organizations selected for empirical research are characterized by revenue increase levels of over 100% (such organizations undergo a dynamic transformation caused by growth), and employment ranging from 10 to 50 employees. The studied companies operate mainly in the IT industry and use technologies to organize the processes of identification and tracking of customer behaviour to a large extent. Several research methods were used in this paper: literature studies, expert interview, participant observation, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Findings & Value added: The article describes the usage level of the agile (and linear) approach in the organizational transformation (through the dynamic growth of revenues), and presents the agile approach model, which can be used as an accelerator of the business' development. In addition, the authors undertook the first (limited and unrepresentative) attempt to evaluate the use of agile approach in the context of such indicators as: communication with customers, profit increase, and minimization of the risk related to introducing a new product on the market.

Opis:
Purpose: Agile transformation is a necessary process for companies in various fields of activity to ensure their competitiveness in modern business conditions, when the uniformity of production processes and the growth of the level of customer (client) demands reduce the impact of traditional ones that remain competitive. Design/methodology/approach: Modern business is a "customer-oriented" business, in which instead or in addition to technological or marketing advantages comes the highest value of human resources and teamwork. That means Agile transformation provides companies with a transition to another level, and those who have not moved to this level remain outside of competitiveness, if not in the near term, then in a strategic perspective. Findings: Agile transformation is comparable to the need to introduce new technologies into production processes to replace obsolete ones, since without new technological solutions, the products created do not meet modern quality requirements or do not have a competitive cost price. Thus, Agile transformation ensures the introduction of new technology not only into the production process, but into the management system and product creation processes within the framework of project or project-oriented activities. Originality/value Mathematical model of managing project portfolio for Agile transformation is new.
