Opis:: The paper offers a reading of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Sylwia Chutnik’s collection of short stories W krainie czarów [In wonderland], addressing the protagonists’ journey into self. Chutnik’s stories are interpreted in terms of some key motifs drawn from a reading of Carroll’s novel, which constitute the touch points of the two authorial designs: dream, imagination, metamorphosis, change, language, auto-thematicity, the demiurgic role of the narrator, and an open ending. Juxtaposed, these concepts shed light on the problem of travelling in time and space understood as a return to the world of childhood imagination. The analysis of Chutnik’s eleven short stories reveals a literary creation of signifying space, in particular the images of Warsaw and Silesia as sites appropriated by history as well as by the protagonists. In every case (be it cities, people’s experiences or post-traumatic stories), an attempted interpretation of particular places and times is shown as a process of discovering the mythology of space – a return to a personal Wonderland. The reflections are brought together by referring to the problem of “bad memory”, a literary means of presenting the reader with alternative testimonies of postmemory.

W opracowaniu opowiadań Chutnik W krainie czarów (2014) kluczowe okazały się elementy, wyłonione z analizy opowieści Carrolla Alicja w Krainie Czarów, które stanowią punkt styku między dwiema wizjami pisarskimi. Należą do nich: sen, wyobraźnia, metamorfoza, zmiana, język, autotematyzm, demiurgiczna rola narratora oraz zakończenie otwarte. Zestawione koncepcje wzajemnie dookreślają problem podróżowania w czasie i przestrzeni jako powrotu do świata dziecięcej wyobraźni. Analiza jedenastu opowiadań Chutnik odsłania literacką kreację przestrzeni znaczącej, zwłaszcza szczególny obraz Warszawy i Śląska, przestrzeni zawłaszczonych przez historię i bohaterów opowiadań. W każdym przypadku (miast, perypetii ludzkich oraz posttraumatycznych historii) próba interpretacji konkretnych miejsc i czasu została ukazana jako odkrywanie mitologii przestrzeni - powrót do osobistej Krainy Czarów. Elementem spajającym podjęte dociekania stał się w końcu problem złej pamięci, będący literackim sposobem udostępniania czytelnikowi alternatywnych świadectw postpamięci.

Opis:: The author discusses similarities between Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and the prose convention of Sylwia Chutnik on the basis of her eleven short stories from the collection W krainie czarów (In Wonderland) (2014). First of all the literary creation of the signifying space is analysed, the detailed pictures of Warsaw and Silesia in particular; the spaces appropriated by history and the protagonists of the short stories. In each case (of cities, people's problems and post-traumatic stories) an attempt to interpret the meaning of place and time is presented as a discovery of the mythology of space - a return to one's personal Wonderland. The problem of bad memory, being a literary measure enabling the reader to access an alternative testimony of the past time and places, becomes the element which consolidates the considerations. In the study of the short stories the key elements are those emerging from Carroll's novel, as they become the contact points between the two writers' visions, defining the problem of time and space. They include: dream, imagination, metamorphosis, change, language, autothematism, the demiurge-narrator and an open ending.
Artykuł Powrót do Krainy Czarów. Podróż w czasie i przestrzeni w prozie Sylwii Chutnik został poświęcony rozważaniom na temat lektury przestrzeni i czasu na przykładzie prozy autorki takich książek jak: Kieszonkowy atlas kobiet (2008), Dzidzia (2009), Cwaniary (2012) czy Jolanta (2015). W pierwszej kolejności konieczne stało się wykazanie powinowactw między opowieścią Lewiasa Carrolla Alicja w Krainie Czarów, a konwencją prozatorską polskiej pisarki. Na podstawie jedenastu opowiadań ze zbioru W krainie czarów (2014) została poddana analizie literacka kreacja przestrzeni znaczącej, zwłaszcza szczególny obraz Warszawy i Śląska, przestrzeni zawłaszczonych przez historię i bohaterów opowiadań. W każdym przypadku (miast, perypetii ludzkich oraz posttraumatycznych historii) próba interpretacji znaczących miejsc i czasu została ukazana jako odkrywanie mitologii przestrzeni – powrót do osobistej Krainy Czarów. Elementem spajającym podjęte dociekania stał się problem złej pamięci, będący literackim sposobem udostępniania czytelnikowi alternatywnego świadectwa minionego czasu i miejsc.
