Opis:: Nanocrystalline thin films of cadmium sulphide were prepared by chemical bath deposition technique onto glass substrate at 60 °C. The deposition parameters were optimized to obtain good quality of nanocrystalline thin films such as, time, precursor concentration, temperature of deposition and pH of the solution. The studies on crystal structure, composition, surface morphology, electrical conductivity and photoconductivity of the films were carried out by using different analytical technique. Characterization includes X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Electrical and photoconductivity. The response and recovery time of the thin film were measured and presented.

Opis:: This paper provides heat transfer analysis in a straight fin with a step change in thickness and variable thermal conductivity, which is losing heat by simultaneous convection and radiation. The calculations are carried out by using the differential transformation method (DTM) that can be applied to various types of differential equations. The results obtained employing DTM are compared with an accurate numerical solution to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. Several graphs are provided to illustrate how the temperature distribution is affected by the (i) thickness parameter, (ii) dimensionless fin semi thickness, (iii) length ratio, (iv) thermal conductivity parameter, (vi) Biot’s number, and (vii) radiation-conduction parameter. This collection of graphs provides a comprehensive picture of the thermal performance of the system under steady state conditions.

Opis:: Radio analytical technique as a non-destructive technique was used in the present investigation to trace the kinetics of ion-isotopic exchange reaction taking place in Duolite ARA-9366 (nuclear grade) and Duolite A-171 (non-nuclear grade) anion exchange resins. The kinetics data suggest that during iodide ion-isotopic exchange reactions under identical experimental conditions of 40.00C, 1.000 g of ion exchange resins and 0.003 M labeled iodide ion solution, the values of specific reaction rate (min-1), amount of iodide ion exchanged (mmol), initial rate of iodide ion exchange (mmol/min) and log Kd were 0.176, 0.383, 0.067 and 7.8 respectively for Duolite ARA-9366 resin, which was higher than 0.142, 0.353, 0.050 and 7.0 respectively as that obtained for Duolite A-171 resins. Also it is observed that at a constant temperature of 40.0 °C, as the concentration of labeled iodide ion solution increases 0.001 M to 0.004 M, the percentage of iodide ions exchanged increases from 49.20 % to 51.80 % for Duolite ARA-9366 resins; and from 45.20 % to 47.80 % for Duolite A-171 resins. The similar trend was observed for the two resins during bromide ion-isotopic exchange reactions. The overall results indicate superior performance of Duolite ARA-9366 resins over Duolite A-171 resins under identical operational parameters.

Opis:: The catalytic properties of Cobalt salen? complex in the oxidation of a lignin model compound [veratrylglycerol-β-guaiacyl-α,γ-dimethylether, VGD] have been investigated in order to obtain the mechanistic aspects of the reaction between Co(salen) and VGD under an oxygen atmosphere using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. VGD was found to undergo structural changes in response to the catalytic reaction as characterised by different analytical techniques (FT-IR, H-1 NMR and GC-MS), yielding 2-methoxy phenol and biphenyl. A mechanism for the oxidation of VGD was postulated.
Zbadano katalityczne właściwości kompleksu Co(Salen) w utlenianiu modelowego związku ligniny (veratrylglycerol-β-guaiacyl-α,γ-dimetyleter, VGD) w celu określenia mechanicznych aspektów reakcji pomiędzy Co(salen) i VGD w atmosferze tlenu przy zastosowaniu nadtlenku wodoru jako utleniacza. Zaobserwowano, że w VGD zaszły zmiany strukturalne w odpowiedzi na reakcję katalityczną, co przedstawiono za pomocą różnych technik analitycznych (FTIR, H-1 NMR oraz GC-MS). W efekcie otrzymano 2-metoksy fenol i bifenyl.

Opis:: The main aim of this work is to verify an influence of the response function type in direct symbolic derivation of the probabilistic moments and coefficients of the structural state variables of axisymmetric spherical steel dome structures. The second purpose is to compare four various types of domes (ribbed, Schwedler, geodesic as well as diamatic) in the context of time-independent reliability assessment in the presence of an uncertainty in the structural steel Young modulus. We have considered various analytical response functions to approximate fundamental eigenfrequencies, critical load multiplier, global extreme vertical and horizontal displacements as well as local deformations. Particular values of the reliability indices calculated here can be of further assistance in the reliability assessment by comparing the minimal one with its counterpart given in the Eurocode depending upon the durability class, reference period and the given limit state type.

Opis:: A three-dimensional (3D) time-domain method is developed to predict ship motions in waves. To evaluate the Froude- Krylov (F-K) forces and hydrostatic forces under the instantaneous incident wave profile, an adaptive mesh technique based on a quad-tree subdivision is adopted to generate instantaneous wet meshes for ship. For quadrilateral panels under both mean free surface and instantaneous incident wave profiles, Froude-Krylov forces and hydrostatic forces are computed by analytical exact pressure integration expressions, allowing for considerably coarse meshes without loss of accuracy. And for quadrilateral panels interacting with the wave profile, F-K and hydrostatic forces are evaluated following a quad-tree subdivision. The transient free surface Green function (TFSGF) is essential to evaluate radiation and diffraction forces based on linear theory. To reduce the numerical error due to unclear partition, a precise integration method is applied to solve the TFSGF in the partition computation time domain. Computations are carried out for a Wigley hull form and S175 container ship, and the results show good agreement with both experimental results and published results.

Opis:: Vibration in rotating machinery leads to a series of undesired effects, e.g. noise, reduced service life or even machine failure. Even though there are many sources of vibrations in a rotating machine, the most common one is mass unbalance. Therefore, a detailed knowledge of the system behavior due to mass unbalance is crucial in the design phase of a rotor-bearing system. The modelling of the rotor and mass unbalance as a lumped system is a widely used approach to calculate the whirling motion of a rotor-bearing system. A more accurate representation of the real system can be found by a continuous model, especially if the mass unbalance is not constant and arbitrarily oriented in space. Therefore, a quasi-analytical method called Numerical Assembly Technique is extended in this paper, which allows for an efficient and accurate simulation of the unbalance response of a rotor-bearing system. The rotor shaft is modelled by the Rayleigh beam theory including rotatory inertia and gyroscopic effects. Rigid discs can be mounted onto the rotor and the bearings are modeled by linear translational/rotational springs/dampers, including cross-coupling effects. The effect of a constant axial force or torque on the system response is also examined in the simulation.

Opis:: "Autoportret" Henryka Siemiradzkiego, znajdujący się w zbiorach MNK, datowany na drugą połowę lat siedemdziesiątych XIX w., jest jednym z dwóch znanych, olejnych portretów/wizerunków własnych artysty. Według badaczy, jest to prawdopodobnie studium do autoportretu, zamówionego u Siemiradzkiego przez Galerię Uffizi we Florencji. Obraz nie jest ukończony. Zabiegi konserwatorskie przeprowadzone w 2010 r. stały się impulsem do dokładnego zbadania tak wyjątkowego obiektu. Na podstawie zdjęć w promieniowaniu analitycznym stwierdzono obecność jeszcze dwóch szkicowych kompozycji pod portretem mężczyzny. Analiza budowy technologicznej i techniki wykonania, połączone z identyfikacją składu warstw malarskich, zaprawy i podobrazia, pozwoliły określić warsztat malarski, z jakim mamy do czynienia w "Autoportrecie". Wnioski potwierdzają tezę, że może to być wyłącznie praca przygotowawcza do zamówionego dzieła. Rozpoznana budowa obrazu raczej wyklucza możliwość, aby była to jego ostateczna, lecz nieukończona wersja. Jeśli autoportret Siemiradzkiego dla znamienitej galerii rzeczywiście powstał to, jak do tej pory nie został odnaleziony. Niemniej, badane studium pozostaje jedną z najlepszych prac portretowych artysty ukazując rys psychologiczny oraz temperament malarski autora.
The "Self-portrait" by Henryk Siemiradzki, currently in the collection of the NMK, dated back to the second half of the 1870s, is one of the two known, oil self-portraits/likenesses of the artist. According to scientists, it is likely to be a study for a self-portrait, commissioned from Siemiradzki by the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The painting has never been finished. Conservation treatment carried out in 2010, gave an impulse for a thorough examination of such a unique object. On the basis of photographs using analytical radiation, it was revealed that two more sketchy compositions existed beneath the portrait of the man. The analysis of its technological structure and technique of execution, combined with identification of the composition of layers of paint, ground and underpainting, allowed for determining the painting method we are dealing with in the "Self-portrait". Conclusions seem to confirm the thesis, that it might only be a preparatory study for the commissioned work. The identified structure of the painting seems to rule out the possibility that it could be its final but unfinished version. If the self-portrait of Siemiradzki for the eminent gallery had really been painted, then it has not been found yet. Nevertheless, the examined study remains one of the best portrait works of the artist revealing the psychological traits and the painting disposition of its author.

Opis:: Development of design characteristics based dynamic decision support framework is presented in the current study, to facilitate the decision makers in the transformation of system in the industry 4.0 paradigm. The model development is designed for a robust decision-making approach to integrating human and machine knowledge to adopt smart technologies and system design. The system is based on prioritization of the industry 4.0 design principles and characteristics including flexibility, self-adaptability, self-reconfigurability, context awareness, decision autonomy, and real-time capabilities. It has been revealed from an industrial field study, the companies facing difficulty to transform the system, and systematics approach needed to overcome the challenge. A decision support process has been developed as an integrated approach to embedding human knowledge. The developed process has been validated using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, the results depict the operational flexibility, has been most crucial transformation characteristics prioritized using the Analytical Hierarchical Process. The developed process has the capability to help the system development and estimate the factors involved in the transformation.
