The cumulative experience gained from conflicts that have been resolved successfully for both parties helps shape a positive attitude towards conflicts as situations that can always be resolved. The greater the experience in positively resolving conflicts, the more open the participants are to confrontation, explaining their own point of view, and being willing to listen to the other side. The aim of this article is to systematize knowledge about coalescent argumentation, which is the art of reconciling differences—opposing arguments—in such a way as to highlight commonalities between the parties, leading them to a mutual agreement. The article emphasizes the important role that coalescent argumentation can play in conflict resolution.

Opis:: W artykule zostaje postawiona teza o przydatności teorii schematów argumentacyjnych do badań nad argumentacją dogmatyczno-prawną. Badania takie winny być prowadzone metodą bottom-up, poprzez analizę tekstów dogmatyczno-prawnych i rekonstrukcję argumentów tam stosowanych. Mając na uwadze wielkość dostępnego korpusu dokumentów oraz jego dostępność on line, badania te winny być prowadzone także z wykorzystaniem metod automatycznych. Rezultatem takich badań może być realistyczny obraz aktualnego stanu argumentacji dogmatyczno-prawnej w Polsce.
The paper argues that theory of argumentation schemes may be fruitfully applied in the reserach on legal dogmatics. Such reserach should be conducted by means of a bottom-up method by analyzing legal-dogmatic texts and reconstructing argumentation schemes used therein. Taking into accouint the size of the available corpus and its online availability, such research should also be supported by automatic methods. Such research should result in a realistic picture of the contemporary state of Polish legal-dogmatic argumentation.

Opis:: Karikaturen gehören zu den persuasiven Bildsorten, die pointierte, parteiische, oft überzeichnende oder humorvolle Stellungnahmen präsentieren. Sie gelten als semiotisch komplex, ihre Analyse setzt daher die Berücksichtigung verschiedener Kodes voraus. Der folgende Beitrag verfolgt das Ziel, anhand konkreter Beispiele zu zeigen, inwieweit sich Kategorien der Argumentationsanalyse sinnvoll auch auf Karikaturen übertragen lassen.
Cartoons are among the persuasive images that present pointed, biased, often exaggerated or humorous statements. They are considered semiotically complex and therefore their analysis requires the consideration of different codes. The aim of this article is to show, by means of concrete examples, the extent to which categories of argumentation analysis can also be meaningfully applied to cartoons.

Opis:: Working with peers in small groups is conducive to learning, and collaborative learning has been widely adopted in second language classrooms. Leadership, defined as the initiative taken to influence others in a group, plays a significant role in successful teamwork, but has not received due attention in research on collaborative peer work. To address this research gap, we conducted a case study in a university English as a foreign language classroom in China in which the participants navigated their oral argumentation tasks collaboratively. The current study offers insight into the fluctuation of peer leadership in collaborative oral argumentation based on group discussion and semi-structured interview data. The findings suggest that peer leadership is a dynamic process that fluctuates in function and individual contribution over time. The study also revealed that peer leadership is a complex process influenced by multiple factors, including intrapersonal, interpersonal, and task-related ones. In conclusion, we stress that, to optimize collaborative peer learning, teachers should strive to stimulate and nurture the emergence of leadership and provide space for its long-term development.

Opis:: The author of this article made an attempt to analyze the thematic material, as well as argumentative techniques in selected polemical papers by Piotr Skarga. She studied both the external, non-artistic evidence (e.g. the Bible, works of Church Fathers, Vatican Council Decrees) and the internal, artistic ones (i.e. enthymemes, topics, exempla). She demonstrated that the Holy Bible was for the preacher Sigismund III Vasa the greatest authority used for the reinforcement of his own argumentation. It was proved that apart from using factual evidence, Skarga would enrich his works with emotional content. For this purpose, he used mostly amplification, which for the Jesuit was at the same time one of the main tools of persuasion.

Opis:: Das Ziel des Beitrages ist es, auf die Spezifik des Argumentierens in den Gedenkreden, die sich auf grenzübergreifende, hier die deutsch‑polnische Versöhnung beziehen, einzugehen. Es werden in der Arbeit zwei Gedenkreden analysiert, die am 20. November 2014 anlässlich des 25. Jahrestages der deutsch‑polnischen Versöhnungsmesse in Kreisau/Krzyżowa von der deutschen sowie der polnischen Regierungschefin gehalten wurden. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, wie die Versöhnungsmesse als Ereignis in beiden Reden sprachlich konzeptualisiert und argumentativ funktionalisiert wurde.
The aim of the article is to address the specific characteristics of argumentation in commemorative speeches that refer to cross‑border reconciliation (here: the German‑Polish case). The paper analyses two commemorative speeches given by the German and Polish heads of government on 20th November 2014 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the German‑Polish reconciliation mass in Kreisau/Krzyżowa. The central question is how the reconciliation mass as an event was conceptualized linguistically and functionalised argumentatively in both speeches.
