Opis:: The spiritual and military service for God and homeland, being a particular aspect of callings for army chaplains, has a long history which reaches earliest times. Along with the development of army organisation different kinds of regulations have been formed which aimed at normalising the organisation of religious service in the army and adapting it to the needs of the developing services. This significant issue is the subject of historical reflexion covering the ministration in Polish Army until the permanent ministration was constituated.
Duchowa i żołnierska służba Bogu i ojczyźnie, stanowiąca szczególny wymiar powołania kapelanów wojskowych, ma długą historię sięgającą najdawniejszych czasów. Wraz z rozwojem organizacji armii, na przestrzeni wieków powstawały różne regulacje, próbujące unormować organizację posługi religijnej w wojsku i dostosować ją do potrzeb rozwijających się sił zbrojnych. To ważne zagadnienie stanowi przedmiot refleksji historycznej obejmującej swym zasięgiem służbę duszpasterską w Wojsku Polskim do czasu ukonstytuowania się stałego duszpasterstwa wojskowego.

Opis:: The article entitled “Selected aspects of logistic management in the army” is the introduction to a cross-sectional analysis of modern logistics problems and the proper management of these processes in the army. These changes are mainly the result of the professionalization of the army – because professionalization is an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of the armed forces. The modernization effort undertaken in a short time has completely changed the face of the Polish army. Military logistics is an area where these changes are mainly visible. The ongoing reorganization is not only to adapt logistics to the new requirements of a professional, fully professional army, but also to improve the efficiency of spending public money and increase the percentage of combat sub-units in relation to the security ones.

Opis:: The article presents the most serious threats to the image of the Polish Army. The beginning of the research period was adopted in 2009 as the moment of starting the process of professionalization. It was a period in which missions outside the country were a particularly important threat to image. In the light of public opinion, nowadays the most serious threat is the partial politicization of the image of the army.After identifying the most serious image threats, the problem of researchers was formulated and expressed in the question: how people and institutions responsible for creating the image of the Polish Army should counteract to the most serious image threats?In this article, the recapitulated research was accompanied by the hypothesis that in order to counteract the most serious image threats, there should be an extension of civilian meaning and democratic control over the army. This control should include actions of state authorities protecting the military from the negative image-related effects of political decisions and ongoing political rivalry.

Opis:: This article describes the preserved literary works of prince Karl Gustav Honhenlohe-Langenburg (1777-1866), the man who lived in the age of Napoleonic wars and spent all his life in military service. It sets these works in the context of his life. They are divided into four categories: books of memoirs, philosophical works, letters and diaries, miscellaneous writings. Prince Hohenlohe's work partly belongs to the genre of aristocratic memoirs and letters; though his philosophical treatises deal with other issues such as army punishment, the moral duties of a soldier or the role of the army in peacetime.

Opis:: It is beyond doubt that contemporary China is a superpower in many aspects. China's economic growth has been increasing for many years now, some experts say that is also becoming a military superpower that may soon dominate the world and challenge America. Is this true? My task will be to answer this question during my research through comprehensive analysis of all basic areas connected with the power of the modern army. My research shows the changes that took place in the Chinese army throughout the last decade: ranging from changes in the officer corp, through changes affecting the army as a whole, to changes that are directly connected with the approach to a common soldier. My research is especially focused on analyzing the technological revolution that took place in the PLA over the last few years in the fields of army, air forces, as well as marine and strategic forces. Moreover, my goal was to compare all the mentioned changes with the trends that one can observe worldwide. All this gives the opportunity to build a correct view of the actual PLA potential, which in fact is still quite low, in spite of all the fast modernization. It seems that the PLA still remains a «paper tiger» that will not be able to threat the global position of the US, at least over next decade.

Pozwoliło to na nakreślenie ich portretu zbiorowego. Wszyscy legi- tymowali się wątpliwym wykształceniem zawodowym, przez wiele lat służyli w orga- nach związanych z systemem represyjnym państwa radzieckiego oraz byli dyspozycyjni wobec organów NKWD w czasie wielkiej czystki (1937–1938). Mimo poddania więk- szości z nich w 1938 r. różnego rodzaju represjom otrzymali rękojmię realizacji w Polsce polityki zgodnej z interesem ZSRR.
T he article presents the life history of six Polish military lawyers who served in the Red Army or in the NKVD forces in the 1930s, were promoted to top ranking war lawyers in 1936 (the equivalent to the former rank of colonel), and afterwards enlisted into the Polish Army. Based on evidence mainly from Russian archives, it was possible to reconstruct the careers of these officers while on service in the armed forces of the USRR. A collective picture was established thereon. There were doubts as to their pro - fessional education since they completed many years of service in bodies related to the repression system of the Soviet state and served the NKVD authorities during the great purge (1937–1938). Although they were subject to various forms of repressions in 1938, they received a guarantee for pursuing a policy in the interest of the USSR in Poland.

Opis:: Drug abuse is a growing social problem in Poland and is a particularly serious problem in the Military. The conditions of military service may be a factor that stimulates drug addiction among soldiers, particularly those who are psychically and physically weak and not adapted to team work. The psychical stress that results from the abrupt breaking of existing bonds and social relationships (family, colleagues, partners) is intensified by spatial limits (military barracks), and the character of military units (personal freedom limitation). Another important aspect is, natural in this situation, access to weapons and the nature of tasks performed by a modern army. Yet the army continues to recruit young people who are physically and mentally weaker and weaker. In face of this problem, the commanders, supervisors and teachers are required to possess not only psychological and pedagogical knowledge, but also ethical and moral awareness. The article is based on empirical results of the test conducted in 2007 among 100 conscription soldiers of the Lublin Garrison of the Polish Army.

Opis:: The article collects the modest evidence available on the use (and possible production) of ceramic building material by the Roman army in Colchis, using it as a backdrop for presenting the exceptional richness, in quantity as much as diversity, of the finds from Gonio/Apsaros. The signatures on these products add to the value of this assemblage. Part 1 of the article presents documented examples of stamps on bricks, roof tiles and ceramic pipes from the Gonio/Apsaros fort and links them to the construction projects of specific Roman army units in the Cappadocia province. The results of laboratory tests conducted on samples of ceramic products and raw clay from Gonio, presented in Part 2, distinguish between two reference groups for the production of which clay from near the fort was used. However, it has not been possible to indicate the specific deposits of such raw material used by the Roman army.

Opis:: The following article is a brief version of “case study” about warfare and its common recognition as a game similar to playing chess by various enthusiasts of the history of Art of War. Its main aim is to show a vivid image of an army in action, with an emphasis on the issue that no military force can act without forage and armoury which must be, more or less, regularly provided. The explanation of how much logistic effort costs to hold even a small unit or garrison full-operational should allow soldiers and civilian researchers to look beyond a schematic image of arms militaris.
