Tytuł:: Weak interactions : asymmetry of time or asymmetry in time?

Opis:: The paper analyzes the philosophical consequences of the recent discovery of direct violations of the time-reversal symmetry of weak interactions. It shows that although we have here an important case of the time asymmetry of one of the fundamental physical forces which could have had a great impact on the form of our world with an excess of matter over antimatter, this asymmetry cannot be treated as the asymmetry of time itself but rather as an asymmetry of some specific physical process in time. The paper also analyzes the consequences of the new discovery for the general problem of the possible connections between direction (arrow) of time and time-asymmetric laws of nature. These problems are analyzed in the context of Horwich’s Asymmetries in time: problems in the philosophy of science (1987) argumentation, trying to show that existence of a time–asymmetric law of nature is a sufficient condition for time to be anisotropic. Instead of Horwich’s sufficient condition for anisotropy of time, it is stressed that for a theory of asymmetry of time to be acceptable it should explain all fundamental time asymmetries: the asymmetry of traces, the asymmetry of causation (which holds although the electrodynamic, strong and gravitational interactions are invariant under time reversal), and the asymmetry between the fixed past and open future. It is so because the problem of the direction of time has originated from our attempts to understand these asymmetries and every plausible theory of the direction of time should explain them.

Opis:: Arrow and Debreu proved that, if in the mathematical model of the economy that they defined some conditions are satisfied, then there is a price system under which there is Walras equilibrium in this economy. We examine a procedure, defined on the basis of a continuous mapping, of transformation of production sets of the Arrow-Debreu economies in which at least one of the assumptions concerning the production sets is not satisfied. Finally, we get a class of ArrowDebreu economies in which, after modification, there is Walras equilibrium. The research methods are based on the analysis of the linear mappings in real vector space of finite dimension, and the results have the form of mathematical theorems.

Opis:: In the Schumpeterian vision of economic development economic evolution is based on the innovative activities of producers and evolutionary changes in the production sphere realized through credits created by banks from savings. The possibility of innovative changes in the demand sphere and the active role of consumers in innovative processes are neglected. Hence the main aim of this paper is an extension of the previous results obtain in the formal modelling of Schumpeter’s theory through the axiomatical analysis of innovative changes in the consumer in the formal apparatus of the modern Arrow-Debreu theory of general equilibrium.

Do zagadnienia ogólnoeuropejskiego dołączono podstawowe informacje o cyfryzacji dorobku kulturowego w Polsce oraz wskazano na dotychczasowy wkład kraju w działalność Europeany.
The essay concerns issues related to the project of the European Commission concerning the establishment of a European digital library Europeana. Covers the creation, development and future plans. It presents the basis for the functioning of the library. Indicated that specialized units operate within it, and what institutions support its actions (f.g. Arrow). Also analyzed the content of Europeana resource development (graphs and tables), complementing the findings and plan further action. For pan-European issues included basic information about the digitization of cultural heritage in Poland and pointed out the current contribution to the country in the business of Europeana.

Opis:: W artykule przeprowadzono symulację toru lotu oraz procesu penetracji przez strzałę wystrzeloną z łuku angielskiego, płyty stalowej imitującej zbroję średniowiecznego rycerza ciężkiej jazdy, stosowaną podczas bitwy pod Crécy, która rozegrała się 26 sierpnia 1346 roku. Bitwa ta stanowiła przełom i ugruntowała, na prawie 200 lat, szczególną rolę w taktyce i sposobie użycia na polu walki łuku angielskiego, do czasu wprowadzenia do powszechnego użycia broni palnej w postaci arkebuza czy muszkietu. Podstawowe parametry techniczne, niezbędne do procesu symulacji uzyskano na podstawie informacji ze źródeł historycznych. Na podstawie obliczeń numerycznych wyznaczono parametry toru lotu strzały z grotem „przeciwpancernym” do maksymalnej do-nośności. Dzięki zastosowaniu metody elementów skończonych (AUTODYN), oszacowano zdolność penetracji zbroi XIV-wiecznego jeźdźca przez strzałę wystrzeloną z łuku angielskiego.
The paper presents simulation of flight path of an arrow shot with a longbow and its penetration process through a steel plate imitating an armor of a medieval heavy cavalry knights used during the Battle of Crécy on 26 August, 1346. The battle was a turning moment which had settled the specific role of the English bow in tactics and methods of its deployment on battle fields for almost 200 years until the fire-arms such as arquebuses or muskets started to be commonly used. The basic technical parameters necessary for the simulation process are based on historical information. On the basis of numerical calculations, the parameters of the flight path of the arrow with the "anti-armor" head were determined up to the maximum range. Thanks to use of the finite element method (AUTODYN) the penetration capacity of the arrow shot from longbow against horseman’s armor of XIV century was estimated.

Opis:: Time is absolute in standard quantum theory and dynamical in general relativity. The combination of both theories into a theory of quantum gravity leads therefore to a “problem of time”. In my essay, I investigate those consequences for the concept of time that may be drawn without a detailed knowledge of quantum gravity. The only assumptions are the experimentally supported universality of the linear structure of quantum theory and the recovery of general relativity in the classical limit. Among the consequences are the fundamental timelessness of quantum gravity, the approximate nature of a semiclassical time, and the correlation of entropy with the size of the Universe.

Opis:: This paper explores nostalgic memories from an unconventional perspective and their complex relationship with parallel universes. The arrow of time is not necessarily linear, and nostalgic memories pertaining to the past or the future, be it in this world or in parallel universes, could be accessed in various states of consciousness. Whatever is inside (in the internal environment of an individual) is outside (in the external environment), which is in line with esoteric teachings and individualistic experiences. The Indian concept of Maya (illusion) that applies to the material world, acts as a hindrance to experiencing Brahman or the ultimate Truth. Until one is able to perceive the infinitely connected universe in all its gigantic underlying unity, it may be posited that nostalgic memories exist in parallel universes.
